In this month's episode of our deer management series with Chris Rogers, we head to the range and learn how to bore sight a scope and zero it in at 100m, before taking an in-depth look at how distance affects your bullet drops.
Chris demonstrates how far a bullet drops at 200m and at 300m, before using a ballistic App hooked up to his Swarovski binoculars to input precise clicks into the scope so he can aim right on target at longer ranges.
Accurately zeroing your scope and working out your own specific bullet drops at typical hunting ranges is absolutely vital if you aim to make clean kills while out hunting and deer stalking. Chris explains step by step how to achieve that in this episode of Shooting & Country TV (S&CTV)

As the range increases, the group size increases. This is another aspect of long range shooting, which is why I won't consider shooting further than 200 yards max. A one inch group at 100 yards (1 min of angle is 3inches at 300 yards) and that is if you can shoot a min. of angle in the field 2 moa is more likely. That means a six inch group. The kill zone on a roe deer is around six inches, not much room for error. As you mentioned you may need to take a shot at these longer ranges if the deer in injured, fair enough.

    Great episode. Instuctve as well
What I see regarding your session is that you need to verify the muzzle velocity. It must be lower than specified on the ammo used.
Thumbs up and greetings from Norway 🇧🇻

Great video Chris. Very informative. You seemed to take an extra but of time to bore sight the new scope and it showed.
Just one question - What happened to your old scope? Asking for friend 😉

I appreciate your statement around 12:20ish. Yes, youtube videos, especially from the yanks, make long shots look easy. And with quality kit, on a sunny day, that might be true. But in dim light, on a windy day, a roe deer even at 200 yds/m becomes a very small target.

Good video. Affirming to see the results a professional stalker is getting and reinforces the discipline of shooting deer at responsible distances. Also the shots were taken off a bench/prone and there was no wind interference .

I use a very similar set, rifle, calibre and binos,I went for a swaro z8i 2.3 -18 × 56 with the ballistic turrets, the slightly larger group and slight miscalculation at the 300 could very well be down to bullet choice
