I use Pro Tools and Logic and the SSL controllers work flawlessly. I've owned the euphonix controllers, Console 1, avid s3 and dock. The SSL controllers have been my favorite especially now that I can map any plug in. I don't know what issues you have with Logic but haven't found any limitations. As far as CPU percentages. 45 percent doesn't mean for your whole system, It means in comparison to your other apps. My activity monitor says SSL 45 percent but my SYSTEM CPU says USER- 13 to 17 percent with Pro tools and SSL 360 open. I'm using a Mac Studio Ultra. Not one issue with the system.
If you like the workflow of the console 1 mk3 then awesome but I find your issues with the SSL stuff a bit misguided.

I'm feeling like sharing. Ok so i bought a StudioLive 32s, and work with ALL 2nd gen StudioLive 32 or 64. I use my StudioLive 32s in DAW mode. I have mapped the 8-knobs from my StudioLive 32 to the SSL UC1 Channel Strip(s), I then mapped the buttons below the knobs on the StudioLive 32s to the push buttons on the Channel Strips(s) also. This has to be done from the DAW you work in (I use Studio One Pro 6), and not from SSL 360. This allows me to still work in 360 by using the knobs and buttons just like the UC1 does. So just map it all on the StudioLive 32s in DAW Mode from your DAW Software and when you open SSL 360 you can still turn the knobs and buttons on the StudioLive 32s and it will control everything in the SSL 360 without the UC1, UF8 etc...! Basically, the SSL 360 is pulling the control from the channel strip in your DAW even though it shows the movement when you're in the SSL 360 Software! ENJOY GUYS...! I enjoy tactile movement in SSL 360 and enjoy all 32 faders along with User function buttons on my StudioLive 32s.... ITS AN AMAZING WORKFLOW!!!!!!!!!

I don’t use Logic, but I do use Ableton and I have all the SSL modules plus (2) UF8’s & the SSL 12 audio interface and I’m solid as a rock and loving every day with no issues. Everything that I asked for it delivers and then some. I was a Console 1 MKll user with 20 faders and had no issues as well but the SSL eco-system just offered and gave me so much more. Plus, since they merge with Harrison audio and Slate plug-ins, it just keeps giving and giving and giving… Now, when I create music, I don’t even think about gear, controllers or the “latest & greatest” shiny new plug-ins, because I have everything I will ever need…and I mean everything.
That being said, I do believe you’re having issues and I believe it may do with logics compatibility. I remember seeing a chart where Logic and another DAW not having as much compatibility (yet) as the other DAWs. So if you’re locked into logic and that’s your DAW of choice and it’s not working for you, you gotta do what you gotta do to make your workflow fit you.
    Respect!🫡

    Whatever works for you, but:
    1. The screenshot shows that the CPU used by all apps is 9,2%. Hence the complaint about 46% for 360 is just misreading the figures.
    2. Desk Space. Yes, the controllers take up some space, but couldn‘t you have figured this out upfront?
    3. You don’t mention the SSL plugins that come with the controllers? This is actually the real value of the combo, e.g with UC1 you get channel strip, bus compressor and 4KB tightly integrated with the hardware. Plus the virtual console 360.

I like this video. It helps people think before buying. In all fairness though. SSL provides the dimensions of their controllers. If you purchased it and then found it took up too much desk space, that's on the purchaser for not doing their proper research, due diligence. I mean everyone should know what their desk can or can't accommodate. The same can be said for some of the other points you made. Regarding the redundancy comments, once you figured that out, why not just return the other controllers? Lessons learned? Do your research thoroughly prior to purchasing any gear you buy.
46.6% CPU usage. You don't mention your CPU or memory specs. That can make a big difference. I noticed you use UAD. Depending on how many plugins you use, CPU usage can be well above 46.6 percent. You need to uninstall Evernote by the way. you said anything that uses over 30% CPU 🙂
Mac Studio: Does your's use the M2 chip? M1? older? I am using an Intel i9 series CPU along with 64GB of ram. My SSL 360core CPU utilization tops out at 15%
I use Pro Tools and Luna. From a daily experience, I can say that the SSL U8F works great on those platforms. As is true with any gear, it's not a one size fits all type thing.

I don't own any SSL controllers but I did have a look at them in store. Nice looking pieces of equipment. I didn't invest in them for a few reasons. The UC1 is huge and takes up way too much real estate for what it is designed to do. The UF1 in my opinion did not need the screens as I have all the information I need within my projects in front of me on the computer monitor. They could of made better use of that real estate with other functionality. As for the UF8... well that was a huge let down from the get go. No dedicated transport controls lol.... I guess they enticed their customers to eventually purchase the UF1 after release as that came with transport controls. Design and marketing strategy? Who knows. I could mention more but I'm just glad I didn't invest in their eco system.

You seem to have a lot of very negative but conflicting views. Your CPU usage is still less than half, and you also have Evernote running, using about 30% CPU - try turning that off while you're recording. Also, while you're complaining about the Mackie Control Protocol - if I'm not mistaken, the Softube Console system also uses that very same system. I know people who have been running the SSL ecosystem for many months now, and yes, using Logic Pro mostly - and not a single complaint. Well, maybe a few complaints about potential improvements early on, but SSL seem to be very responsive and virtually all requests have been listened to and implemented in recent updates to the firmware and the 360 software. Me? I'm just about to ditch my Behringer X-Touch systems and get the SSL ones, after seeing friends using it happily and flawlessly. Have you perhaps considered not running an external DAW controller at all, if you strive for simplicity? Just use the good old mouse and/or Wacom pen or similar?
