- Really use your ear here folks. Using the higher notes of chords to spark and connect melodies. This is how you practice tying all this stuff together to actually make music. Thanks for all the support!

Guthrie Trapp - Hudba
It’s actually the beginning of fly me to the moon…
You’re a “Universal-Sent,” thank you kindly for the knowledge
Man what a genuine guy. How lucky are we that he makes himself available to us? I am truly appreciative of GT and others in his class that want to inspire others and impart tricks of the trade.
Got the southern Alabami blues✌🏻🎸🎶
I can't believe he called that noodling around 😅
Gotta love it when he says “just messin’ around” after he plays an absolutely stellar melodic line, and also wanna smash your guitar 😂
Every time I solo over a major 1-4-5 I have to fight off “Do Lord.”😂
"It's about the Big Chords and breaking them down." and "What's making that sound is the chords Changing".
That's the gold from this video. Music is not knowing crazy chords. Music is what you hear when you move from simple chord to simple chord with a rhythm. The way play is taking Guthrie's triad lessons and moving them around the neck. When I want to hear the complexity of these crazy chords, I put my pinky down somewhere. I couldn't tell you if I've played a 9th or a Flat 13th to save my life unless I recorded it and analyzed it later. And I don't really care to use my mind's bandwidth on that kind of stuff. If it sounds good, do that again. Anyway I hope others are having as much fun as I am, thanks to Guthrie and his cut through the bullshit approach.🤠
Videos get better and better brother. I like the stories and the behind the scenes shit.
Have a blast in Newport!
Visited Barcelona last year. What an experience! Have fun!
Amazing video as always guthrie. I’ll be hitting you up about a personal Skype lesson soon 👍
Congratulations on the Newport Jazz Fest. That is the very first thing I remember seeing on tv as a little kid, Muddy Waters & more plus gigantic Newport cigarette packs advertising signs in the background. John Landgraff, super nice guy & great pedal maker. R.I.P. 👍🎸😎✌️
Thanks, man! It’s the Newport folk festival 👍
@@guthrietrappmusic I am sorry Guthrie, my mind got effected by having to watch too many Lawrence Welk bubbles shows, it was that or nothing at all. 😂 LOL
Your NYC travel log was dope.
Man, I'm glad you decided to tell some stories! Very entertaining!
Hey Guthrie, just checked out your one on one lessons. I am excited, will be contacting you before the end of the year for a several couple tier ones and very possiby one Tier 5. I hope you´re available by the time I hit you up. Thanks for all the content you post in here. You rock brother.
Another person commenting to say I heard that chord progression you made up saying "you must have heard this in some song before", and I thought, "yeah, that's Island In The Sun by Weezer!" And then you gave it the voice leading on top, and you literally played Island In The Sun! That made me smile hahaha, I've watched a ton of your videos and I've gotten a ton out of them, but I had to comment on this one
I’ve never heard that song. Ha. I was thinking of Autumn Leaves or something.
@@guthrietrappmusic that’s so wild makes me think Weezer might have been inspired from Autumn leaves!

Guthrie, I'm a guitar teacher and performer from St. Louis-you might know one of my former students, Joe McMahan, who lives in East Nashville. You're right on the money in your teaching of the fingerboard. You, Buk, Jack Ruch and Tomo Fujita are excellent teachers, and I borrow some of your methods in teaching my students. Keep up the good work!!
Hello from Scotland Guthrie. Thanks for teaching me how to fish 😁
Thats great tone..really love that pedal set. I bought the "roots recharge'. excellent but for me, it's like drinking through a firehose..need to go slow and steady. Make sure you have passed the State of Limitations before you tell your stories!!!!!
I been playing guitar for almost 30 years on and off and while I'm not on your level I can attest that Guthrie Trapp is the real deal!!If I could take lessons again to further my playing i would definitely go to guys like Guthrie or Ford Thurston ,Tom Bukovac these guys are the real deal session men!Brett Papa constantly praises and has these guys on, why?because they're the best in the business!
Guthrie demonstrating more guitar gold!
That intro was beautiful, Love the tremolo! Play on my friend! ❤
As always I'm here for the intro but staying for the knowledge 💯
You need to write a book full of these stories! Absolutely great stuff!
Tons of stuff in there that I think I can get at. Thanks .
I've been devoting a fair bit of time on major and minor triads up and down the fretboard - and by golly it's a game changer!
Are you planning it in a metal contacts for more country?Style up-and-down and neck with it.Major and minor
Love hearing u play n the stories r priceless brother!
8:46 that’s weezer 🌞 “heyh. heyh.”
There’s very few guys out there who are both top musicians and natural teachers - Jack Rusch is definitely one of them. Victor Wooten is another - he doesn’t even play guitar and I’ve learned more about my playing from him in a few videos than I have from hours of some other guys. Both them just “get” music at another level and have the natural ability to communicate it so clearly.
Ia m hearing Weezer - Island in the sun in that cord progression. A song I like and with this lesson, I have enough to keep me busy for the upcoming rainy weekend here in Holland!
Thanks Guthrie! Great stuff as always! 🔥🔥
yeah totally I told by wife the same thing all I could hear was the melody and "eh eh eh eh" I said it sounds like a weezer song, so we sang into google and came up with island in the sun...not sure yet if Guthrie is playing in the same positions, but the chord progression is the same
Love that Island tune. I play it live now per a request.
Thanks for the lessons and many insights. I bought some merch to support your channel. I'd buy more if your store offered tall sizes as well.
Thanks for your lessons, your the best!
Love listening to you and a guitar!
Thanks again Guthrie great practical stuff.
Some nice double stops there buddy. 😎🤓
I have commented on a few other videos...but this stuff is golden! I took guitar lessons from 13-16 yrs old and learned how to read music. But then I quit. I just faked and improvised my way through a few bands and then only played very sporadically for myself) for 25 years. Now at age 54, I started relearning last year and these videos (among some other good you tubers) have pulled it all together for me! There are truly many "AHA" moments!!! Thanks Guthrie!
That guitar is really fine
You need to go back and watch your old videos. Watching you explore the neck and coming up with different melodies and ideas is pretty interesting. I wish there was an app capable of dictating note for note in tab form. That way someone can go back and replay it using different instruments in the app. Pretty cool video. Thanks!
Killer tone, killer skills, killer talent, killer channel.
You cold blooded, jack!
He is a God driven person zztop keep the kindness that keeps us going love god
I’m hearing it almost going into “Fly Me to the Moon “. Love this stuff.
The whole video is awesome, but the first two minutes and 40 seconds are absolutely magical.
Sounds good. 7 always goes to the 3rd
Howdy Guthrie! Awesome double stop intro with tremolo effect. Loved it! Many thanks for the video! Have a great time at the Newport folk festival. -Barry
Peace man ☮️
God bless you 🙏
You make me smile
Ole GT busting out that Weezer classic for us 😅
I don’t know what that means but my buddy to her managers for Weezer ha
Was hoping someone else caught the accidental weezer lol
@@guthrietrappmusicthe band Weezer plays on a song called holiday with that chord progression.
Sorry, the song is island in the sun
Hello East Nashville! What a great way to wake up this morning. Getting ready to run through the song list for Monday's rehearsal and you always inspire me .
Always interesting, never boring. Much respect Guthrie...
Autumn Leaves! Ha. Great song for learning jazz shapes/chords. GT's lesson on D major 1-4-5 traids is incredibly helpful too.
Sweet playing
fight the good fight 🤜
Nice playing! I hope to get in an Immersion Experience with you soon!
Jammin
Sounds like you just put on new strings. Great playing and tones, thanks for sharing your knowledge!
You and uncle Larry have the best tone and interesting hooks. The album is going to be phenomenal, I’m so stoked.
Your playing and tone fill my heart with such wonderful appreciation for you, GT! ♥
That intro! So lush bro
Sounds like fly me to the moon
Brandenburg Concerto 4 in G major Bach has some of the best examples of this.
Truth.
just what i needed. thank you sir... amazing how much gets put together fijnally...
Hey Guthrie, great lesson as usual. Thanks. BTW, none of my business, but the small mark on your right cheek is making me think of the skin cancer I had to have removed recently. Might be a good idea to have it looked at by a dermatologist when you get a chance. ✌️
I love listening and watching your playing and simplicity in explaining and demonstrating how its done. I have mad respect for you, and want to thank you, because these videos inspire me to practice, and practice correctly. Appreciate ya man!
Man loving all the videos hitting us with lately. Appreciated.
You have been pumping out some awesome videos! You’re a great teacher. I’ll have to pickup a T-shirt!
Thanks for keeping it real and raw. Real guitar playing and I love the way you teach guitar on the net. 👍🏼🎶👊🏼
Wow! This golden!!
love it! thanks for another great vid!
Great tone !
Always a pleasure to listen to GT thanks as always.
Sounds great bro!
Nice…Beautiful tone!
Inspration bro!
THIS IS JUST AWESOME MAN!!! YOU ALWAYS HAVE GREAT TIDBITS!!! THANKS GIUTHRIE!!
Hey Guthrie, this chord progression sounds a lot like "Island in the sun" by Weezer!
Love your videos, your approach of music and your way of sharing it.
Thanks for that man!
- A fellow Telecaster enthusiast from France 😊
Love that Island song! Just learned and added it to my set. Fun tune!
Very Inspiring ! Thanks Guthrie, amazing playing !!!
How long did it take you to play so fluidly and expressive? I think that the things that impresses me the most.
Beautiful intro jam!
Guthrie, I love your whole approach to guitar tone and guitar playing. Having a great foundational sound and from there, enhancing it with a subtle amount of delay and reverb. Keeping the effects and amp simple and concentrating more importantly on your playing .
Just love your whole approach and outlook on guitar Guthrie. Could not agree more with you. It's all about playing and making music. Hopefully good music
Where do I order me some of them noodles? Good stuff!
Great video Guthrie, (actually I called my son Woody after Woody Guthrie). I’m working my way through your TrueFire course and learning so much, then I saw your jamplay course there so grab it as well. Enough to work on for a good while. Understand the layout of the fretboard though the triades has improved my playing so much. Thanks you.
I see you got the nobles overdrive on both boards. Fixing to get one
Helpful stuff, thanks! And, by focusing on chord tones, the solo/melody is much, much more likely to fit; as compared to just blazing some scale over the top.
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day also what is your favorite guitar 😊
Who said the tele neck pickup wont good
"I don't have a lot of stuff"
Sorry bout the rant. That means I was drinking. Got cancer. So have a few for depression.
Not the best strategy.
On an island in the sun
Caveman shit? 🤣🤣🤣 you funny!
A few Weeks ago you said you was doing a "Rig Rundown".
I nerd out out on gear, lol especially if its different from what other players typically use. Just wondering if thats still in the works?
Hey. I am trying to get my head around your ideas. does your "Roots Recharge" truefire course cover any of these methods and what you talked about in the "This IS the secret to learning guitar. Period!" video?
I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this for years on my own. (Following chords while improvising)
So is there a specific scale shape associated with each chord?
Do the different pentatonic scale shapes have anything to do with the chord shapes?
sounds like top gun after goose dies
Hey GT appreciate the tutorials!! What have you got for pu's in that pretty Tele?? Thanks in advance...
Very nice and just what I need. Question tho. If you just use the Em scale to move to the next chord (Am in this case) and you don’t think about the G major scale, how do you know which Em scale to use? I mean if your next chord is Cmajor and the progression is in CM the second note in the Em scale will be an E# and not a D as when the progression is based on Gmajor. I guess im overthinking it and it is probably holding me back more than making me better. But do you not think about these things at all when you are improvising?
Your youth and my youth would have gotten along great… in and out of jail.
Fly Me To The Moon slipped out of the strings
