  • There's a debate in the mechanical keyboard community regarding stabilizers. What is the best stabilizer? Is it cherry or is it costar?
    Before making up your mind please check this quick video, correctly assembled costar stabilizers are simply sublime!

    Holy cow! You are the only person on the whole interweb that can put the keycap on the stabilizer the right way!

    I've struggled multiple hours yesterday to try and insert new keycaps and mount those stabilizers again. Managed to do it rather quickly now, thanks to this video.

    Was having a hard time with these stabilizers until I watched your video. I'm always confused about which keycap mounts should be facing but now I can rewatch your video if I ever forget. Very helpful. Thank you

    These stabilizers were super finicky to work with but I manage somehow. Pretty much exactly as you show but before I even see this video. So I'm glad I did it the right way.

    Thank you so much for this video. I would never have thought of just setting the side mounts in place and mounting the key after. I assumed that you had to insert the mounts into the key first and someone mount the key after inserting the wire into the side mounts.

    One of my stabilizer clips wont push into the holes on the sides of the keys. I tried everything I can find but to no success

    I love wasd boards. My last board I got the bear bones with no key caps. Now when it came to installing my space bar key cap the plastic clip where the metal bar goes in to Stabilize it kept popping off and it made the keycap stuck. I finally switched it with an old stabilizer plastic thing that actually stuck in their tighter so it doesn’t pop off when I press the key. I hate costar stabilizers

    Thanks for this. I've been mounting it the wrong way, or should I say, the harder way.

    • @cason1029
      @cason1029 Před 4 lety

      were you putting the plastic pieces on the key cap first and then trying to force the wire through? lmao i was doing that before i watched this video and then had the realization it shouldn’t be this hard

    • @asdfkle8
      @asdfkle8 Před 4 lety

      @@cason1029 yeah, pretty much this. the problem with mine is that some of the inserts are a bit loose on the keycap, so it made it even harder to put on. I'll be trying this method when I clean my keyboard. I think I currently have the inserts in the wrong direction too lmao.

  • @JohnHeroy

    What is that tool you use in the video?

  • @sokoloft3
    @sokoloft3 Před 2 lety

    These are on razer keyboards. I don't lube them so I don't do it this way. I get everything either connected to the keycap. Or insert the plastic bits into the backplate. Then use a small flathead cell phone repair screwdriver to push them in. If I tried to do them this way. Getting the stab inserts out of the keycap would likely break them. I've never tried though.

    Can't find a video on how to remove costar stabilizers from the plate; do I have to bend or push something to take it off?

  • @maidpretty
    @maidpretty Před 6 lety +5

    By my experience, Costar stabilizers are painful to mount, but overall, they give best typing experience.

    • @zacharybishop6595

      Agreed. They actually make the larger keys feel springy and mechanical.

      +quake4tt you mean lubing? sure

    • @goosemeister4507
      @goosemeister4507 Před 8 lety

      +Matt3o what he probably means is if you could fit these same stabilizers into the holes of cherry stabilizers like these: hardforum.com/proxy/CKbSwA7n6N9nDecy0lKTwmhIGxmm800G0T8EP7oHQ6afq2DDLS0DjLg96H2JelINw6hDwD8kI1VVZzdEL%2Fc9KkXMPtUIbLtSPYuTTn9%2FK8QVNSaSUQo%3D/image.png, since i found out that my keyboard msses one i also want to know since really the only stabilizers you can buy are the ones shown in the video

    • @matt3o
      @matt3o  Před 8 lety +2

      +geeltje 35 oh, no you can't, unless the holes are specifically crafted to be also costar compatible. That is rarely the case for commercial keyboards, but it might work on custom creations.

    • @goosemeister4507
      @goosemeister4507 Před 8 lety

      +Matt3o ohh that sucks, i got a ducky shine 3 for cheap since it was a open box andi just found out it is missing a stabilizer, thanks for the quick answer!

    Why don't you talk during the video? You point at things but you don't describe why or what you are doing.

    • @Yggdrasil42
      @Yggdrasil42 Před 5 lety

      He's not pointing but using the tip of the metal tool to lubricate the hinge surfaces.
