#3- Those pickup truck campers take me back. I’ll never forget my Dad coming home with a Del Rey cab over on a ‘66 3/4 ton Chevy. This was our graduation from tent camping, and we thought we were seriously uptown. A roof mounted AC three years later in ‘71 was the icing on the cake. Wish I had that package back.

My parents bought a slightly used Kamp King camper, just a regular size, 8 ft. Back in the 60s. That was so well built, solid. We loved it and went everywhere in it. They used it for YEARS until they were too old to use it any longer then sold it with the truck. Hope the buyers enjoyed it. Lots of great memories in it.

My dad cut the body from the windshield back off of a 61 impala & built a commerical looking motorhome on it. We traveled the us every summer. We (all 6 of us)actually ended up living in it for a year when we fell on hard times in Florida. The man could build anything. He built all his own boats. He even built a washing machine in the desert in India during WW2 out of a windmill, 55 gal drum, & the rear end axle & gearbox from military jeep.

My parents had a GMC motorhome in the 70s when they had the orange , green, etc. 70s colors. Ours was cream tan and brown though. We went on the first trip to Arizona in it. We were on our way back to our home in Oregon and after we got part way into Oregon it conked out.
They looked it over later and found out that someone at the factory had put some sawdust in the gas tank, probably in protest of the gas shortage going on at the time.
GMC only gave dad part of the money back on it, and gave him a GMC pickup for some of it. Dad didn't like GMC pickups. He always had Fords.
After that dad bought a Revcon, which was pretty good.

Fue el mejor de los motorhome que mi padre tuvo.

We had a Winnebago Chieftain. 27 feet long, the dual beds in the back, bathroom mid coach, a small kitchen, a dinette and a bunk that lowered over the drivers area. We went all over the U.S. in that during the 70's and 80's. A leak in the roof, and axle problems spelled the end to the Winne for us.

You know a truck camper A frame hybrid would be a neat new camper for the market. the bottom area having the kitchen and breakfast nook and a rest room with a fantastic fan. With a walk in shower you fold up and a cartridge toilet not a wet bath with a fantastic fan with a queen bed in the top half of the camper. Really neat truck camper for sure. The breakfast nook can be made into a bed for the grand kid's. Azdel and air alloy aluminum frame work would make the camper very light weight. Could even place a hand pulled pull out on each side has well. Change truck campers forever! 😊😉

GEOFF ok there was a company that also made a fifth wheel trailer for early Suburbans. It was very much like the one for the VW and attached to the middle if the roof. It was so easy to turn it around and park it in a space. Surprised someone has t come up with one for the new Suburban ps or other SUVs

There is a Rectrans at a facility in SoCal where my Son and I go to buy parts for one of our classic cars, still runs and in nice shape, and NO the owner will NOT sell it.
I beleive it was one of these which was used in "Dumb and Dumber" as the 'Dog Grooming Mobile' and has a 'standard' 140 hp six cylinder Corvair engine for power which actually was able to attain 23 + mpg on the highway according to the owner.
But if not specifically a Rectrans it was manfactured by Chevrolet as the identification tab is in the doorframe, and IF he decides to sell, it is mine - and for a very fair price at that, so time will tell.

You try finding interior images in vintage vehicles. They're very difficult to find.
