When I fall I don't really have time to move my body to a prefect position, all I think about is omg is my horse ok and please don't run over me lol
Same
#same
Tyarra Crace same! The other day I got really hurt but I was like "😮 is my pony alright?" She just tripped over . Almost broke my nose !! 😅
Yesss I’m just like “DON’T RUN OVER MEEEEEEE”
same
Who else wants to ride that thing and try to stay on?😂😂
Me
+Jordyn Kelley MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
me
lol me
me
Ok because we will definitely remember all of this in the split second we fall
+Maddie McKeown actually, once you have had enough falls you do learn. I now always breathe out the min i feel myself coming off as I once came off and held my breath, but I was winded so I freaked out as couldn't breathe and had no fresh breath in my lungs. If you breathe out before you fall then you will take a stunned breath in when you make impact. I know to roll away, and if you have to get off, do it as far away as the horses feet as possible. I have a lot of experience falling off....haha.
1:15 - you mean, you aren't suppose to face-plant when you fall off?
Lol No XD
LaFanda Lando Did that when my horse bucked me off a day ago, got a fat lip, so I'd say no. =)
Haha funny joke
I face planted in february, still sore and still doing physio. I was in hospital with suspected broken neck, shoulder and ruptured trachea... thankfully it was just a really nasty fall but if I knew how to fall properly I wouldn't have hurt myself at all probably.
@@sllansdown oh god r u ok now
If only I had a nice soft bouncy thing to fall off into I wouldn't have metal screws in my collar bone!
Alanna Light I have a broken collar bone right now, fell off my horse :(
beccaline you have a Air vest? They are really good! :) and sorry ❤️ hope you get better soon! And back on the saddle! :)
As an ex Track rider and now extreme sports I have one thing to say ------ CHIN 2 CHEST!
Yay mom for putting me in gymnastics at age 5. The first thing they teach is how to fall.
Lawl I did gymnastics then quit at age 6, I wasn’t taught how to fall they just but a big crash mat under everything then just set us to it
i would love to do this....because i think it would help someone like me (who has med issues) and for the unconfident riders which i am also...because then we would know what to do when falling and know we don't always hurt ourselves when falling off xx
I like this because you learn how to not get a bad injury when you fall but, they know when they are going to fall. If your on a real horse, it can happen any time
Very interesting!! Learning how to fall to avoid major injuries should be essential to every riders. First aid and CPR lessons should be a part of this trainning.
This video helped me our very much. on June 11th I watching this video and learned that when you are thrown tuck your head and roll to your shoulder. Well little did I know that on the 12th I would be riding and the horse would take off with me and throw me. I tucked and rolled on my left side. Slid 3 feet in the gravel. I walked away with only some scratches and bruises. THANK you SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO.
i love when they give you that signature "MOM!" look hahahaha. my boy Oliver is still really green and i fell off of him the other day and he looked half traumatized and half confused, where as my old man Walter just gives me a "seriously? you fell?" look hahaha
Thank you! - We arranged a course with a judo expert. It was fun and cool. Had to be practised a 1000 times, so the body remembers what to do.
Falling on hard ground hurts any time, but you may prevent severe damage and just get a lot of blue marks
You have to practice this a lot to train your brain to adopt this fetal position when you fall. I used to flail my arms but after I’ve been rock climbing a bit and took some bad bouldering falls I learned how to push myself away from the wall instead of instinctively hugging it. Basically what I’m trying to say is that you can do a drill enough times to make you ready to do it when it’s happening for real. Sure climbing is different from horse riding, so I’ve been practicing falling off of stuff onto soft bedding like how I’m supposed to fall off of a horse so hopefully next time I fall off of a horse I remember tuck and roll instead of “stick your arms out.”
Because during the two seconds that I am in the air about to fall on my face, I will remember to do what this video taught me.
We r not exactly gonna remember ur just gonna think about when u fall who u fall and worry about staying on u don't say I'm how shall I fall
Exactly 😂😂
I guess it becomes a reflex after a while, also I think it's good to educate riders about how they fall especially jockeys because if you fall wrong on a horse going at speed then the injuries could be life changing.
The idea is that if you practice the proper technique enough it becomes second nature... so when you actually fall, muscle memory kicks in. No thinking necessary.
It comes as reflex when you do it enough. Same thing with martial arts, no one thinks how they do it in fight, its a muscle memory. :)
you mean YOU'RE not gonna remember
great video! and too the people who say would it not be better to role to the sides no it would not be because you dont realise your falling untill your going straight for the ground so this is an excellent video on showing you how to do so! :)
That is really cooL!!!! I learned a lot!
this looks like alot of fun!
With all my strength I grip with my knees and can avoid that "over the handlebars" type fall most of the time. This tuck and roll technique is very right though and helps you to get away from the falling horse as quickly as possible and avoid crushing, head injury and damaging arms and legs with the impact.
the only thing is,in a race u can fall at any time, with thus machine u know when ur going to fall...but i know its the vest that they can do
That's how i kinda fell of last friday my first ever fall off a 16hh horse so still a bit shocked thanx 4 this it's helped cuz I will remember to use this technique when I next fall since I was so close to getting trampled I swear the first fall is always the worst!! X
I need something like this. When I fall off, I pretty much only think "Oh crap, I'm falliiiiing dont hit head" and then hit the ground.
I have never seen a horse do that before! Hahaha this looks like fun, as a younger rider we used to practice falling off our ponies to not only teach ourselves how to stop a serious injury but to teach our horses not to worry or run off. It was a good laugh and really helped!
@RammsteinRoesli
I have found that yes, when the time actually comes you do remember and out of instinct you tuck and roll. ("learned to fall" w/ hockey, bmx, skating, etc.) although I have never taken a class where we learn to fall off of our horses, I do pretty much the same tuck and roll that they are teaching and have never broken a bone (or had to go to the hospital) after falling. recently I fell off my belgian draft filly (17+ hands) and got up with out any injury.
Good luck riding!
This really helped with my falling off
If your going to fall its like time starts moving super fast while the fall is happening especially if you weren't expecting it so my trainer says don't let your body brace for it but just let it happen so you kinda just become a noodle so it doesn't hurt
I wanna try!!
I need to do this! It would be really great if you could do a video/article on falling 'technique' so to speak. As in, how to prevent as much damage as possible!
That looks like so much fun!! But the first thing I think of when I fall is not to get stepped on or loose the horse (if I'm outside)
I wonder if blindfolds would help the anticipation of the fall. Seeing it happen and expecting it to come at that certain point... but blindfolding, I mean, they obviously know its coming as it is a training exercise, but as most falls happen, they happen when you least expect it. So take away the anticipation of seeing the end, and you get the element of surprise... right?
looks like fun!
It depends, heir showing if the horse trips and falls forward what you shold do. Since you would be thrown forward aswell.
i wanna try it
I was always taught that the most important thing to ever learn when riding was how to fall off properly. My teacher had us throwing ourselves off horses onto great big piles of hay and straw until we got it right and you know what? I haven't broke a limb yet!
When I fall I look where I'm falling, reach my hands out and right before my hands hit the ground I pull myself into a tuck and roll right up onto my feet. If my legs aren't broke, I'm on my feet before the horse even gets another stride in. :P Riding green horses has really done a lot of teaching me that you WILL fall sometimes and when you do, freakin catch yourself, don't splat into the ground. I'll fight to stay on, but once I know I'm done for all my efforts go into falling right.
That is really cooL!!!!
I wanna session! That would b great!
I met Steve today - great guy!
I agree--this particular scenario is how to fall if the horse falls forward--the rider WILL go forward in front of the horse. I think this is simply about minimizing injury, not avoiding it entirely.
Grazie ag te ed alla liui di una vostra
Lol I want to be on this just to see if I could stay on
I've been very fortunate most of my falls have seemed to happen in slow motion, so I was able to be prepared, and roll on a shoulder, or even land on my feet in a couple of cases. The one that happened as fast as this machine throws you down, I ended up getting thrown into a jump. Ouch!
I remember when I fell off a horse for the 3rd time I went rolling on the grass I think I did tuck in a little but the only injury I got was a sprianed wrist. The horse jerked forward in into the canter from the trot and I lost my balance.
An art that will escape even the best at times XD
@DawnMM1 Very True,Also in ''real life'' you wont have a pad to fall on,it will be arena sand, trail gravel,or field grass. Not just that, then you will have the horse coming behind you (if the fall was like the one in the video) Then you will have him to try to avoided as well.Real life can never be simulated by robots and computers..no matter how hard they try. :)
I wish that mattress was along with me on every ride......just in case! lol Great video!
i love how they try and tell you how to fall; not like when you fall you don't generally think about how you'll land you just fall, end of!
This is awesome.. Only one problem. Horses spook and bolt, trip, buck, etc... and this is only showing ONE way to fall.
OMG i want one !!!! xxxx
@EllieScotland I thought the same thing, but here I am sitting here with a broken collarbone. But I will never stop riding! and I hope you don't either! an injury will come a time or another. but that's all part of riding. I hope for your sake that falling off is long time away for you also (: P.S. I wish I had one of these at my house!!! amazing !
That look wicked funnnnnnnn
ponykat101, British Eventing is holding some Safety & Fall training days and you don't even need to be a member to take part! Book your place by Friday 28th. More info on their website
I had a "fall training system" when I was a little kid. He was a shetland pony named Dandylion ;)
I was lucky two days ago when my horse bucked me off (Yeah... she's one of those horses, going to go back to working on lunging again soon when my back recovers.) because I fell in a decent way in the mud, but for the past phew days my back is really sore.
My horse is a alpha mare, but we have a very loving bond its just the place we got her from only used her for breeding, so she is very bossy when being ridden, and will go nuts if you dare put her in a bit...
I wont give up on her though, she's my best friend.
I want to try that! :D
I really want to try and stay on that haha
What I've learned watching this video:
If your horse is mechanical, is timed to throw you off, and you having padding to land on it's extremely easy to plan how you're going to fall
Keren kerenn... Salam dari Malang Selatan jatim Indonesia
I think this is actually more geared towards racing, where the horse sometimes almost does a somersault over its front legs and tips forward.
I would be the only one trying to stay on and prove myself 😂
I fall off alot and get that its important to learn to fall but when ever I do fall i dont think got to do a roll when I land I just think shit dont tense up and that seems to work no broken bones yet...
good idea and ya some of the comments make sense but its good to know how to fall/roll/etc just in case!
Has this machine developed since this video was posted? Because I think it would also be helpful to practice falling off from the side or from a buck, I feel like the horse ducking out and you rolling off the side happens more often than you falling off over their head, at least I haven't seen many over the head falls, just a thought.
I never knew there was a specific way to fall of a horse 😂
i need to g to this so i dont break my collarbone again XD lol
But what if you come off the side? My horse had a bucking fit and dropped his shoulder, I fell on to rock solid ground onto my hip and broke two vertebrae I did put my arm out but my hip hit the ground first.
We should all go and try stay on the horse so the instructor is like : ok so at the end fall off' and at the end...:nah gurl imma stay on dis thing!
Okay, before I was this video, I fell bad and broke my shoulder.
After seeing this video, when my shoulder was all fine, I fell again, but I tried to fall the way this video was teaching, I didn't broke anything, just few bruises around the body.
That's too cool! I wanna try! lol
Before I started riding I was a competitive gymnast so now when I fall I automatically fall like I was taught :)
I always fall off to my right. Then I always land on my head. Then I always get up as fast as I can. Instinct tells me just to stand up. Last time after hitting my head really hard I got up told everyone I was fine and wouldn't let them take me to hospital- then I passed out.
I always fall off the side, what do you do then? last time I decided to try to land on my feet and ripped my knee out of place, 2 years of surgeries later im better however haven't fallen yet, not looking forward to it.
Personally from all my falls. You're not going to remember all this for a 5 second time of falling. I mean, heck people at my barn think I took skill in falling and landing on my feet infront of a horse but sure as heck it wasn't me. It was the horse. She helped me land on my feet(and I know how ridiculous i sound). I know for all the times I've fallen, your mind cant think that fast, so instead u just hold on for dear life and hope your horse stops. Lmao just how I ride personally. Though my mind is straight up blank while I'm falling lmao.
what if u fly off to the other side of the mat
A horse cannot warn you before it stumbles or trips. Sometimes that happens and there isn't much you can do to prepare yourself. Learning to fall is very important for riders. I do agree that they are sitting very high, though.
This would be perfect for Equistrian Centers to learn the riders how to fall. Do you know how this thing is called? It would be great to know.
you cant really control how you fall. Sometime, a horse will do an abrupt stop, causing you to fly forward. This is a very good video, showing what do you when you fall, in the case you get stepped on.
Aikido ukemi (breakfalls) would really help.
...yeah when i fall its usally in slow mo and i land on my knee then just kinda drop or go flying... eather way im trying to stay on, im almost never thinking ok and im gonna fall... NOW
i want one!>.
Just my opinion, but I think they would all get more out of learning to use their hands in a roll. Using a springboard from a gymnastics teacher, and learning to practice dive rolls, then moving the springboard to a platform with a little running start helps people learn how to move their body through the air, learn timing and how to dive roll using their hands or not would be much more helpful. It saved me many times from getting hurt when I've had horses fall with me and buck me off both.
What if u fall over the front of their shoulders, roll under and land on your back? That seems to be how i stack it.. Fell off my horse in a lake like that, he tripped in a hole, he fell on his knees, i flew off over his shoulder, rolled under him, n spun left, horse then stepped on my right leg. Lots of bruising but nothing bad..
there's not really time to think about it, but still this kinda looks like fun (the training session, not actually falling...that hurts)
It's not really considered a fall bc ur expecting it so u know what's coming. In real falls u don't expect it so u don't really have time to think about tucking and rolling or whatever.
Jason Richards not really, when you train it, it becomes a reflex
When I fall off I don't have time to get my body into a certain position lol
What is this called? I really want to find a place that offers this.
I don't know exactly what it is I do, but every time I fall off, since I started riding, I get to my feet ASAP. I really didn't want to disapnt my trainer. About two months after I started riding Show Jumper and Equitation, I do some kind of roll where I just literally BOUNCE like a football and end up on my feet before I know what happened. Maybe it's a delayed reaction, because right after I get my bearings my muscles tense up and the "OUCH" response gets to me for about ten seconds xD
Theory is brilliant but i'm yet to meet someone that thought 'oh no, i'm falling- i'd better tuck my head and roll' while flying over a horses head!
is it bad that I wold just end up playing around with this thing?
i have an idea!!! seeing as we can't really get prepared when we're about to fall.... how about we just go with it ?!?!?!
round of applause?? thank you...
Yeah, I guess some horses will just stop and run away, but when you're racing and going along at full speed, the horse might jump over or run to the side, but if there's horses right behind you and you fall off, then there might not be enough time for horse or rider to react and you might get trodden on.
but if a horse bucks you off our you just fall your not prepared for it so how could you use this to help you??
It looks funny!
this is very good practice but i have been off a lot and u have no time to think but if u do it enough times and get it buried into their muscle memory they we will do it with out knowing it!
@NandiniJT
Same. But here it was a mad cob called Megan, who tended to, *ahem* prefer galloping to to walking...lol
in a race the most accidents are when the horse stumbles and so the rider will fall over its neck. but in that case the horse won't run you over because it is already on the ground ;) ... there were also showjumpers and they maybe will fall forward if their horse stops before a jump. so there (mostly) is also no danger that the horse runs over you. but the rider will fall into the fence so maybe the shown technique is not helpful ^^
actually if you know how the really watch how horses and riders move then you'll notice that they tend to always chuck a shoulder as somthing to land on and then they always roll out of the way. They also usually land on the shoulder of the hand they don't write with :)
i like how nicky falls on the first one and just stops
But the ground is hard so than you get a broken shoulder?
