    These homeboys are old friends of mine I grew up in the pico gardens housing projects from 1965 to1995. The vato in the shades is a guy named Mando Pallan whom I know his entire family. He ended up joining the Marines and then attended a univesity to become successful. My name is Juan Luis Escamilla a.k.a. John. Viva la Raza, viva E.L.A., viva boyle heights, and viva the U.S.A.

    -These guys are like we were. Talking out problems & things. Difference, we're Puerto Ricans & blacks in NY, with more Mexicans coming up over here now. In Cali it's always spring & summer. But same situations for decades over here, with some gangs & sone smaller crews going around looking for trouble. It's good to see some who are talking about the same real life things & not wanting to attack, beat & kill, for everything from retaliations to bs. Stay strong for you, your families, your bros, your honeys, stay out of lock up if you can, & stay positive. Peace.

    Everything starts in elementary but the hardest obstacle is Jr High. I grew up in City Terrace but when I started 7th grade I had to do to Belvedere JrH. Man let me tell you it was messed up. Dealing with dudes from other gangs who would try to jump you because you lived up the hill. For those of you familiar with the area you know what I am talking about. Made in to collage anf looking for a better life. Miss the old days, just wish I knew then what I know now. Echenle gana raza!. God bless!!

    This kid in the shades has it right. It all starts in elementary. That's why you got the affluent parents putting their kids in good elementary schools. It all starts with the right direction. I hope to God the kids in the neighborhoods realize that no one is going to keep you down, but no one is going to help you up either. You gotta put "ganas" into it. It's well worth it in the end.

California was a paradise, Now not so much in my opinion. I'm from Orange County Ca, OC used to be part of LA county back in the day so it's very similar, I just wish I would've been around to enjoy it back in those times, but I guess it goes for everywhere, the earth is being destroyed one way or another, nothing is the same.

      I have lived in San Diego for over 40 years. I remember how things were in the 70s before they put up houses and businesses everywhere. People have to live and work somewhere. Take a road trip across our great country and you will see there is still so much open land, just not on the coastal regions.

      LA was so much better before the 2000's? Now everything is getting bad to worse as time passes by it really sucks! LA has gone out of control there's a lot of pollution, expensive homes and apartment, overcrowded and homelessness. Even latino families are moving because the rent is too high and the house owner kicking them out. I missed the old years!!! LA use to be Greenery I love nature now... I don't have words.

    The new generation will never understand the shit we as kids had to face, harsh realities and pains that a kid shouldn't endure, we had to make decisions in the moment, Ines that could change your life forever, to survive the harsh streets, I grew up in the end of it all, when you'd kids were still being raised to be part of the gang, your barrio, my family molded me to become a good member dedicated to his hood and his familia, we grew up now, learned from our mistakes and changed our lives for the better..well most of us..but forever will we just be some chicano from the barrios of East la , I can be rich but my character and my strength comes from the bullshit we had to deal with. Graffiti and music saved my life, the world is yours . R.i.p to all the homies.

    I grew up in Aliso Village projects and nobody used to like people from AV projects. Staying in school is the easiest way to go about it. Do this lil homies. Get a Bachelor's degree on Economics then you get a Masters in Business Administrations, its called an MBA. Thats how Donald Trumps kids roll. Running a small business is hard and ridky. Therefore, they are gonna pay you to run somebodys business, just make sure you get a pension and a severance pay clause in your deal. The thing i regret the most is not listening to my mom and dad. My mom and dad hated weed. Dont smoke weed or cigarettes. Dont even try drinking alcohol, alcohol is the worst manipulating hurtful drug. Dont do any lines or hit a pipe. Drugs break up famillies and break up dreams. And God wants to unite famillies and lives. Live a kosher life, im jewish and struggling with substance abuse. My relationship with YHVH has helped me tremendously. Sharing in groups has also aid me in analizing my self. Keep your head up. ☝ Psalm 84:11 For Jehovah God is a sun and a shield;
    He gives favor and glory.
    Jehovah will not hold back anything good
    From those walking in integrity. Dont let me down, i better not see you hanging around wasting time. Read! The most important thing you need in life is God, but a big vocabulary n English and Spanish. Get advanced in English grammar, its hard to be articulate with out a big vocabulary. Plus you need good English grammar so when your ready to write your Business Plan. Stay away from dope and gangs. Go get into Law Enforcement, them dudes make alot of money now. Plus, remember your looking for a job with a pension. Always think 2 steps ahead and plan on your senior years. I never dreamt that i would make it to 47. If i would have thought that i was gonna make it to 47, i would have had a retirement plan. Dont let us down! Get out of yourselve, volunteer, donate, and do charity work. If you do good, please remember to keep the orphans in mind, God will bless you if you adopt a kid. I dont recommend dogs, because dogs are a big distraction in a developing kids mind. Stay focus. And you help the next generation.

    Jackson school is closed down. I new older gentlemen that attended. They grew up to be great men. I’m just glad this actually conveys a positive message, education is the key. When I was growing up in the pjs Pico Aliso, it was a greater chance you would go to prison than a prestigious university. Viva la Raza.
