  • Lately I have been working on topological studies of jugs and containers as a way to have fun with some forms. This timelapse is one of those studies. This image has no side view nor was I able to find a video of it being held making it a fun judge. I've been working on a jug tier list and considered this one a tier 2, so not too hard. But I got some horror jugs for sure to get to.
When it comes to learning HardOps / Boxcutter there are a couple of paths.

+1 Existing contemporary modern products are much more relatable than all those fantasy SciFi assets.

with practice it gets easier and easier. This is a tier2 jug! They get much more shapely and interesting as they go on. Even in just the antifreeze category!

Interesting! When is it best to use lattice before subdiv modifier rather than afterwards? I thought the more topology it handles the smoother it would make the object.

youll have to ponder the mod order for that one! I feel evaluating the lattice first above all results in a smoother result.

Any chance of you making a video about a design or even potentially making a design trilogy videos? I love what you and the team created, keep it up.

I love these topo studies. How did you learn topology? though practice only? any resources to learn topology for hard surface?

Hello, MasterXeon! Your timelapses are awesome! Please record a video of modeling the Russian telescopic sight PSO-1, it has a rather complex shape due to the intersection of many cylinders. A great thing to do this with booleans
    P.S. sorry for my english

One but ... Never use CGI to produce CGI always, Always look for photos of real products !! looking for cars use auto motor seling sites, video from museums etc, products look in stores photos NOT promo CGI materials . Only then you model will be like real, now its copy of a copy of a copy , you get the point :).

try finding any other image of that jug. My first step is always to build a ref board and interpret the form.

That jug's limited information was part of it's choice. All I had to read were those images.
