    Yep, I remember those early 2000's. Best GW days in my opinion. 6th ed Fantasy, 4th Ed 40K, Mordheim, BFG, 3E D&D, they took all my free moments. Our Sunday Morheim/BFG games are some of my fondest memories. Long live creative GW. Screw today's rigid competitive crap. Still revere my Generals Handbook.

    I would be interested in GW revisiting Skirmish or Mordhiem once WH Old World releases.

      They won't. WH old world has been released, and it's setted in the most boring time in the Imperium: After the vampire wars, so no Von Carstein, no different imperial mercenary factions, no Shadowlord, and absolutely no Mordheim 👎👎👎.

    Will you two be playing any mordheim in the future?

      I’d like to. It’s a tricky game to shoot though.

    If you're looking for another fantasy skirmish to try, Anthems of War is a pretty good time

    Warhammer 40k 4th edition rulebook has the OG killteam...Kinda like a dirty dozen scenario of one killteam vs brute squads and a boss with some objectives. Using units chosen from the desired codex, theres also campaign(crusade) and combat patrol. Its the best 40k rulebook prouduced in terms of hobby and game. For lore..id say the 6th edition.

    My group played a lot of Kill Team and started getting in Warcry. A lot of us didn't like the rules in Warcry so we were looking at what else would fit the fantasy niche that we were looking for. We looked at AoS Skirmish, WHFB skirmish, OPR, and settled on Mordheim. It's taken a few months to get teams and terrain made but we've been loving it. My one worry is the catch-up mechanic in Mordheim as it seems some teams win most of their games and are going to quickly outpace the other teams. I'm been trying to do some reasech on Reddit and the like but I haven't found much.

      house rule it to allow free mercenaries to catch up value, and/or a blood bowl style ReRoll for every 50/75/100 (need some fine tuning) GP

    Im really enjoying the channel, skirmish is really helping me get some games in while not having a group to play with.

    Excellent video as always, well laid out and great graphics showing whatever you were talking about.. Also your hardcopy collection of warhammer stuff is amazing.

    I got the Skirmish rules by searching online but the copies I found weren't complete. Seams to be the same corrupted file that got shared. It is usable though.
    The online copies of Morheim are perfect!

    I notice you have a mix of bases on your minis, it would be awesome to hear what you think is the best/easiest way to create a nice base and what basing materials/style has aged the best

    • @oldhammered
      @oldhammered  Před 9 měsíci +2

      These days my go-to bases are 25mm or 30mm rounds (depending on the size of the mini) textured with drybrushed Astrogranite. There are faster basing options and there are better basing options, but this is the road I've chosen. Also I've completely abandoned the thought of swapping out all those old square bases. Life's too short.

    • @GloriousGrunt
      @GloriousGrunt Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@oldhammered Ok, Astrogranite is nice and easy, thanks for the tip! 😁 I'm in the process of basing a large army and I don't want to re-base in the future either, round seems to be the way to go.

    6:04 it's more of a campaign heavy Skirmish TT wargame then a Light RPG as Light RPGs have much less count ofver much less pages which normally much less replayablity. Still I get what you mean and your right.

    Great comparison between both systems! Now, to be completely accurate, you don't really need the 2002 Skirmish supplement, the actual Skirmish rules are in the 6th Ed. rulebook, on the Appendix 3 (pg. 242). Heck, you don't even need the Ravening Hordes booklet, the rulebook itself includes a set of very basic army lists for 12 factions on pages 280-281, with point costs and everything, but with no special rules. Still enough to get your toes wet, I reckon 😊

    • @oldhammered
      @oldhammered  Před 9 měsíci +2

      I believe we talk about Appendix 3 at the 7:30 mark. And no, I guess you technically don’t need the 2002 scenario supplement to play the game, but I would definitely recommend having it. It’s a great resource.

    • @franciscopina2899
      @franciscopina2899 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @oldhammered no arguments there, the supplement is absolutely great! And of course having Ravening Hordes or a couple of army books will give you a richer game, I was just pointing out that, in order to play Warhammer Skirmish, the bare minimum you really need is just the 6th Ed. rulebook 😉
