The #ChevroletSuburban is the longest running nameplate in America, with its lineage tracing back to 1935. Over the last 11 generation, the #Suburban has been the go-to family SUV for folks looking for the ultimate in capability, comfort, and space. For 2021, the #SuburbanDiesel is the next step in this model's evolution with a new 3.0L #Duramax inline-6 offering up to 277 HP and 460 lb-ft of torque. It also means the new #SuburbanDuramax will achieve an EPA rating of up to 21/27 MPG with 2WD and a still impressive 20/26 MPG with 4WD. Offering a cruising range of more than 650 miles, this new #Diesel powered #ChevySuburban may be the perfect long--distance hauler for many American families. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Happy Friday everyone! Chevrolet announced final fuel economy figures of the Suburban Diesel already. The Suburban 2WD Duramax is rated to get 21/27 MPG, while the 4WD version will get 20/2 MPG. That easily beats the Ford Expedition MAX with its EcoBoost V6 engine by 5 MPG combined, making the Duramax version the most fuel-efficient supersized SUV you can buy. We easily saw 23-25 MPG in our testing and were able to confirm 650 miles of cruising range on a full tank.
Do you recall the payload number for this diesel model? Payload is arguably more important than max towing in people haulers. Thank you!
Wow. I thought the diesel would be better but apparently it gets 2 mph hwy with awd😂
I got nervous, the tailgate looked like it was going to hit you in the head😭
Jesus christ my Golf gets that kind of fuel economy. Amazing.
@@nintendoatarikiller that’s pretty insane for such a large heavy family hauler
I watched this video after ordering my 2021 and quickly called the dealer to upgrade to the diesel. Well worth the cost at that time. I get over 750 Miles per tank on the highway and about 600 miles of city driving. My family enjoys our road trips in this vehicle. Almost 3 years of ownership and very happy with my purchase.
North America: Full Size SUV
Europe: Small House
lol its funny seeing those weird small euro cars that look like golf carts
Exactly Bee Cars! American excess for the well off amid raging distress.
@@dextersmithbsee Ya'll Europeans are , Haters.
yep! i just said the same thing about it!
Lmao I have a 2002LT and I be hoggin lanes
With all the seats down, you could fit a Honda Fit back there!
Or a mini cooper or smart car
Yo Dawg....
😂😂😂
LMAO
Or a Miata :)
I ordered a Yukon XL Denali Diesel. I like them better than electric for my lifestyle and driving distances.
20/26, 21/27 and 600 miles of range. Amazing!
the fact that it is idling around 400-500 rpm is amazing for a big truck
I dont think the size of the truck matters at how it idles if its not engaged with the transmission
By comparison my big truck 13 litre inline 6 idles around 600......course mine makes like 1650 lb-ft of torque at 1000 rpm.....lol
It’s about time they put a Diesel engine in it. Good job Chevrolet!
Damn. My 2016 Volvo V60 station wagon (not much bigger than a Ford Focus really) got 23-25 MPG on the highway with the inline-5 and AWD. Can’t believe a Suburban now gets similar mileage
Suburban is an American icon. yes it is crazy expensive but not a whole lot out there that does what this thing can do.
They are expensive but they also last forever.
@@2steaksandwiches665 Their not that expensive, depending on the Trimline.
@@stuchbrosmnore8627 I even ran a base model one but the base model you wouldn’t want. We are actually planning on buying one in the next 12 months. Probably considering the diesel Tahoe. If I get 10 years out of it it’s a good investment
@@2steaksandwiches665 "Investment" Lol
And as for the base ones , not everyone in general wants too many options in a vehicle .
Besides, you dont see the Police Departments with the Tahoes that got too many options in their vehicles yet they last longer by the way.
@@stuchbrosmnore8627 Even when you option the lowest one out with a few options lyou’re still looking at the mid $50s.
Intoduced in 1935, they will probably keep it going until the end of 2035, those last year models are going to be worth soooooo much.
Yay! A review of the diesel!
GM did an awesome job on the New Full-Size SUV’s, the Suburban is a great and important family vehicle, it’s an icon, I test drove the 2021 Suburban Premier and I loved it!
It's a freight train.
@@boboutelama5748 Lol
Didn't Ford do this a few years back, with the Excursion?
@@oz5wob3 Do what?
@@justinsmith2598 have a big diesel,
I love how Ford and Chevy compete with each other. Because every 4-5 years we get a dope Ford and then a dope Chevy
You can now say “fuel efficient” and “Chevy Suburban” in the same sentence. Can 2020 get more strange?
Actually, 2000s to 1980s Suburbans, Yukons, Blazers and Jimmys of Full Size, Tahoes, has Diesel engines in them of V8 6.5 Turbocharged and 6.2 N/A. Which nets over 20mpgs.
Perfectly matched turbo deisel and 10 speed for this SUV. LONG LIVE THE "TURBO deisel" wonderful highway cruiser with 600+ range.
coming from a suburban owner ...fuel efficient 🤔what is even that 😃
Lol good point !
Yeah and I can’t wait to delete it😂
The spacing between the sits is amazing and what makes it more attractive is the simple features that one can be able to operate well. It's definitely car worth buying
Honestly it’s nice to hear a newer chime for the new gm cars cuz the old chime literally sounded like some cheap ass dinky chime lol
Damn that thing gets better gas mileage than my wife's 2014 Pilot
Its a diesel, even a bigger Mercedes sprinter diesel has better gas mileage
Surprise her with one for Christmas
@@Lion-dr7uv get her a 99 civic instead
@@paladin3116 2017 Camry XLE
and that's a low estimate for that engine in my opinion, the Ram ecodiesel and the Ford small diesel for the F-150 wich are about the same specs give 30 mpg or more in highway
I think if the price of these types vehicles keep trending upwards, it might make sense to apply for a mortgage to pay for one.
Great review as always! This will be our next family hauler once we move back to the mainland from Hawaii. Currently have the outgoing generation and it has been flawless for us.
For 2021, honestly, all lights on vehicles nowadays should be all led and hid. Incondencent lights are unacceptable imo
I couldn't agree more. There really is no reason for this.
@@snowblind. if you put incondencent lights nowadays, you just tell me that ur cheap af. Even a cheaper charger sxt has all led exterior lights. Why can't a 70K suv have it is beyond me smh
You are so right
And blind me? No lol
I think GM strategy was to reserve fully LED lights for the GMC and the Cadillac versions. In the long run if anything were to go wrong with the brake lights and turn signals the incandescent lights will be cheap and easy to replace compare to LED.
Very nice review! Bonus points as I know exactly where your shooting this review at. 10 minutes from my house!!👍
I’d been off of the hurst look of these vehicles for quite some time. This refresh looks refreshing and now there’s actually usable space. 👍
Another great review!!! Now, I want one to travel and camp in.
Always love your reviews!
Great review, I have absolutely no need for this but honestly if I were buying a truck to keep for a long time this would be the one.
We used to get to that kind of economy in our 1995 suburban diesel. Nice to see it coming back
Awesome to see my favorite car review guy do reviews of car in my hometown. Sofyan, you better let me come and see you do the review of the 2022 Golf R next year, lol.
Man I drove a 07 suburban once and that muthafucka is HUGE😳😳😳 so I can only imagine the newer ones. But I love the new design and black bowtie. I’ve always loved the suburban and Tahoe family but they’re too big for my liking. I’ll stick with the equinox line
Equinox??
"crap ton!" But great review! Thanks y'all for getting this out and seen.
I LOVE the traditional turns signals and brake lights! Much easier on the eyes from behind..!
Leds get snow covered. Heated lenses are only on class 8 trucks at this time. Ill take incondecents that burn off snow. So the vehicle can be seen.
Love your reviews. Very objective.
finally, a Suburban that America deserves. GM now work on that interior for the Silverado, actually the work is already done, just swap the Burban's interior into the Silverado and Serria
These things are AWESOME, you can even put the body of many year models of it, on a 2500 diesel chassis, and have like a 2013 suburban 2500 6.6 V8 duramax. (Which is probably what I would get instead, but that's just my personal opinion)
I would have to paint the bow tie black on the key fob. LOL..
Bigger vehicles like that benefit more with torque than horsepower.

5:50 Is that a new GM bong?!?! They’ve only been using the current one for the last 30 years lol.
good review beautiful truck....would be nervous about being the first to buy a new GM Diesel engine given their track record. Was impressed to see a 2019 Suburban (non diesel) besting my 2019 4Runner on the highway 21 vs 17.
I think the old style Suburban was pretty low slung...the lowest ground clearance in the segment back in the day....which made for a great safety feature in addition to being much much much better for ingress and egress compared to the competition. That might be moot with the new suspension plus the air ride option. This length of a wheelbase makes for a better ride than a Limosine which is pretty amazing for what is i agree considered "a Family ride." Great review.
Nice with you as always love to see a video on the 2021 Cadillac Escalade
I dont know about adaptive cruise. But GMC just announced that they are giving the Sierra super cruise I believe as an option. So hopefully something gets done with their lower end cruise tech and start making that standard and super cruise as the option.
Great review as usual, can you tell me please what kind of cameras are you using ? Thanks 👍
Great review! Suburbans are very classy and handsome, especially in black. If I could afford a new Suburban, you can bet I would have one in my garage.
You must have a mechanics garage to fit this winnebago in.
My family's CR-V averages 18.3 MPG with mixed driving so the fact that you were averaging 25 MPG is nuts!!
Imagine the 2wd model. Damn!
It's a diesel. So even more poisonous gases at the exhaust port.
And 25 MPG is enormous for a car. Even my Peugeot delivery van doesn't sip so much fuel.
The new Toyota Corolla Touring can reach 50 mpg. Even the Sienna reaches 35 mpg, and it's a van.
@@boboutelama5748 do your research on diesel pollution. And none of those cars you mention weight what this does. 25mpg is fantastic. Don't try to say ev vehicles are good for the environment.
New deisels have amazing mpgs!
@@boboutelama5748 cannot compare EU deisel vehicles to US deisels. The engines emissions and fuel are different. So different power and different mpg.
Sofyan, the standard wheels on the RST are actually 22 inch
Diesel is often cheaper than premium gas which the 6.2 trucks need. So this seems to be the ultimate sweet spot.
I really like it!!! I’m actually planning to trade my Pacifica for one of those.
Traded in a '18 Explorer XLT with 55k miles for a '23 Suburban LS with 5.3 v8. $61 MSRP. It's what was available and in stock. No regrets so far.
I have an 05 suburban with 6.0 and I love that truck
I usually prefer Ford Lincoln, but this could be a game changer for sure. Definitely would buy the Yukon xl Diesel if I had the means to. Great job GM!!.
A useful addition to reviews of SUVs is measuring the linear distance behind the second row seats with the third row folded. The cubic volume measurement doesn't really tell me much.
Most compact suvs interiors would fit inside this behind the first row of seats...
Good review. Good information. No drama.
Good flow and pacing. A natural.
id love to swap that diesel into a 2 door Tahoe from the 90s
Id like to swap the 454 into this full sized suv. It just belongs hur
@@blackice7408 Bring in the 496, an upgrade on the 454...
We love that classic cubic inch 454 it just got that ring to it
@@dubd7626 here in my country is very difficult to find a nice 2door Tahoe, plus, diesel here is cheaper than gas
I stuffed a Vortec 7400 in one and crashed
Very nice truck and review! GM still cheats you when it comes to adaptive cruise control (even on the Blazer), but I like the sound of that I6 (reminds me of my Bravada).
My $40,000 Tacoma has adaptive cruise control! They don’t have it in a $70,000 Suburban doesn’t!? Curious! 🤔
Standard on all trims in the 2018-2021 Honda Accords lol
it all depends on the trim levels the RST is like third of being above then the premier that has adaptive cruise control then the high country
@@scorefreak32 same as all camry
@@thatikidoriginal3983 it standard on accord and Camry, why it not on a 70k car
@@kromahj because if they made it available on all trims no one would buy the higher trims.
Best road trip car ever built!
4:00 41 inches of boot space? 🤔 or u meant 41 cu. ft. ??
Fantastic review!
Call me crazy but the engine sound remembers me the Audi´s Le Mans diesel cars! That engine is a great adition!
Was tough choosing between the expedition max and suburban a month ago but the Ford drove better and the cabin was way nicer. Always been a Chevy girl so this is tough for me to admit lol. Suburban is a great car tho.
fantastic review !
Great video! I like the mpg of that Diesel engine.
SOLD! LOVE IT! Gonna get one.
You had me on Diesel 😍😍😍
You know it's got to be great, he seldom says anything good about GM products! I won't be able to afford it, but so nice to see diesels are back and getting good fuel economy.🇺🇸😄
It'll be interesting too see how this little deisel does on emissions issues.
He hates Toyota as well
This car looks good to me
Now can I get a 2500. Pretty please with a cherry on top.
I LOVE this SUV BUT...totally HATE the push button transmission! This would have made the perfect family hauler for my family if only it had the steering column shifter.
Very informative video
He says “crap ton” because Joe Raiti has a patent on “plethora.”
C ton , S ton and F ton is more American.
These usually look weird to me because of their size but this one seems really nice inside and out.
Can you do 2021 sienna vs 2021 suburban I cannot decide if I want a minivan or a suv
Sofran looks like a cute Umpa Lumpa in that giant monolith. ha. I heard that the F-150 hybrid has a 700 mile safe range? Insane. I'm sure it will carry over to the Expedition. If I was in the market, I would just wait for some kind of electrification.
Gay.
It's always nice to have a hearse to drive. You never know when you'll need to haul a body to the mortuary.
People will need to help move all the dead come this Winter when the ADE (Antibody Dependant Enhancement) happens to those who got the Jab. If the hospitals are full DURING THE SUMMER 😳, Just wait til winter comes and the flu takes out millions in one season.
How comfortable are the 1st and 2nd row seats? They get some criticism online.
Great Review
¡Excellent review!
We can't get the diesel in Canada. Only available in the Cadillac and the pickups. ☹️
@redlinereviews do the seats go back up with the push of a button?
Swap those old bulbs out for LEDS that don’t need resistors or throw codes on the dashboard.
Do you feel that the dashboard is so high and the windshield so small that you feel claustrophobic? How is this compared to the Ford expedition? Saw both reviews and is considering either one.
$73K GM Gives Deep Discounts. You can expect to knock off $12K after new model is introduced. I wouldn’t be surprised to see these sold for under $60K loaded by summer.
In a normal world yes but with the chip shortage and people waiting for cars no one is discounting anything right now at least in certain parts of the country. But otherwise he would be right and everyone in the comments would still complain anyway. Here’s the bottom line the domestic manufacturers are no longer selling price they are now selling product. End of story. There is no you can get a Chevy for less than a Toyota ads anymore. If you don’t think it’s worth it then don’t buy it but I have a very sneaky. Suspicion that Chevy isn’t going to be able to keep these things on the lot no matter what price they are asking. This thing is big as a house you’re not going to get all that sheet metal for $45,000 with any meaningful features in it. Go spend $170,000 to get a Mercedes-Benz on your grill
I wish to have a 200 KWH battery powertrain with over 200 miles full load range Suburban..
I have a 2020 sub with 5k on it, it's the 5.3 gas and it has too many issues with a check engine light. Is it better to trade in for the diesel or do they break every 5k as well?
I just tried to build and price a 2021 Chevy Suburban in order to get the diesel and there is no option at all to get the diesel.
You really can’t go wrong with a 3.0L inline 6 diesel. They can also easily be tuned for increased fuel economy and with regular maintenance should easily last 500k miles before a rebuild is needed.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade account for 50% of all large SUV sales in the US. GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. We estimate they generate $20 billion in revenue for GM and about $4 billion in profits. Autoline Daily.
The moms in my area are already buying the new suburbans
Yep my neighbor just got one and it is an incredible vehicle. They got rid of their Honda pilot which is lame and not an incredible vehicle
I not necessarily a Dodge, Ford, or GM guy I just pretty much like all of them.. they each have their own pros and cons but this thing is fuckin badass.
Crazy that adaptive cruise control isn't standard. $$$
Ik a 2017 Camry has adaptive Cruise control lol.
Damn. What a boss of a truck! (Maybe they’ll offer a Trail Boss version eventually?) really nailed it on the styling, love the diesel. Wish they’d gone with a rotary style shifter rather than the push button selector, but that’s just me. Love your reviews as always Sofyan!
There is already a z71 version which is basically as close you’ll get to a trail boss
I give this video a relatively solid sounding thunk on the thunk scale
Can anyone confirm if you can put 20" tires and wheels on the 2021 RST? For example, Snow Tires. Even if its a 2nd set.
I drive a P1200 FedEx truck. I’m curious how this vehicle drives.
I’m after the dimensions (length, width, height) behind the second row (so with 3rd row folded down but second row up).
Also if you have the dimensions for the same seating configuration in a standard non-XL.
Thank you
$60K and you still get a tiny little LCD in the middle of an ancient instrument cluster 🤣
But consider this... With how long a diesel engines last, I'm sure the old school cluster type gauges will still be working properly aside from the digital screens they're putting and everything. More technology to fail in the future
Remember the Excursion? 2003 sitting in my driveway buddy...
I wonder what would happen if you tried to fold down the seat with a occupant or items in the seat???
its another option for SUV campers! Love diesel engine, durable!
