- The Nikon D3000, shortly behind the D5000, helped initiate the Nikon DSLR lineup's four-digit numbering system with 3000-series camera making the entry-level tier. The D3000 provided users a camera with an interface similar to, but stripped down from, the D5000 and later bodies. A lot of what Nikon developed for the D3000 in terms of layout and system organization provided a foundation for continued improvements across the 3000-tier cameras for more than a decade.

I learned more in the 20 minutes of this video than I have in the last 13 years of owning this camera.
Thank you!
I’ve had this camera for years most of the time I’ve used auto mode. I finally understand all of the features the D3000 has. Thanks for the thorough walkthrough!
Thank you!
Same here!
This is very informative, super helpful. Thanks for going through all of this. I have a D3000 and not really sure what all the modes and buttons and parameters mean. Thank you for this. I especially appreciate you putting everything into context and how to use each thing and not just "this is what this button does."
Thank you! The usability of each feature was the thing people requested most often.
Excellent information, thank you for sharing. I’m learning
Mr. Hancock, as soon as the video finished, I liked and subscribed. Thank you very much for the video! Keep up the good and hard work. By the way, nice coffee cup! 😁
Thank you! :D
Thank you! Just what I was looking for, something this detailed since I got the camera with no manual informative to a beginner like me.
Nice! I'm glad I could help.

Thank you! I'm always glad that my work helps learning photographers. You'll do well with this camera. The worst-case scenario is that you delete some photos or readjust some settings. This is a great first DSLR.
I’ve bought this camera on marketplace because I need to use it for yearbook not only that but i’m the photographer for my senior year so this helps a lot 👍🏾thanks man
Thank you and this will work well for that!

Just bought one of these cameras second hand for £45 in a bid to get back into photography. Your videos are proving invaluable so sincerely, thanks very much, mate.
Thank you!
@@DavidHancock You're welcome.
Great Video , coming from a Konica 35mm Film SLR background Digital SLR's are very intimidating and expensive to say the least , the Nikon D3000 is very affordable now and still far exceeds past technology yet still allowing Manual Control Photography thanks !
Thank you!
Just a word about "use any old flash" with the hot shoe mount... many pre digital era flashguns use a 'trigger voltage current' that could damage a digital camera. So, it is important before mounting such a flash to check what voltage the trigger circuit uses. It is reasonably safe to assume that your digital camera is okay for use at voltages up to 10volts or so. Either lookup your flashguns trigger voltage online by way of a Google search or use a multimeter to measure the current between the centre ball connection on the hotshoe foot and the metal pin located it the keyway slot of the shoe mount (within the side channel way). Old flashguns can vary between about 3v and 300v.. so it is a potential issue. If damage occurs the camera will no longer trigger an external unit and may even fail to trigger the built in flash from that day on. Hope that helpe avoid any heartache. 😢
Good point and thank you.
This is the first "real" camera I have ever bought. I had no idea how to use it and it's 10 years old😂😂😂.
Now I have 2 boys, it's time to learn. TY for this video.
Nice!
@@DavidHancock how do I find the thread size of the lens? Looking for filters and a hood, but other than 55mm I'm not sure.
@@trashyaudiophile7301 for the 18-55mm, the filter thread is 52mm. Most lenses have that printed on the front next to a diameter symbol
@@DavidHancock I looked all over, is not listed.
TY again.
@@DavidHancock Unfortunately this lens does not have any markings, nor the body. I bought the camera way back in 13 or 14. Not sure if that makes a difference.
The pop-up flash button doesn’t seem to work for me. Nothing happens. Is there another way to get it to come out or do I have to buy an attachment to have a flash?
Check the mode that you're set to. If it continues not to work, it may be a shot release motor. If you press the release button and hear a clicking, then it's likely the motor.
How do you fix the screen from timing out so fast or is that just something that happens. I noticed if i dont touch a button for about 10-15 seconds my screen goes black.
That's a setting covered in video 3.
I have a Tamron Lens on this camera Autofocus was working, but now isn't,I have to manually Focus and results aren't as good, any idea why Autofocus has stopped working please?
As a quick check, did the camera get switched from auto to manual focus?
will u link the batterys that work for this?
Yup. FYI, this is an affiliate link:

How to change effect for Nikon camera d3000
I think you're looking for the image settings, which should be detailed in Video 3, under the menu system.
Good day, can you help me I have a zoom lens which I don't know what T mount adapter should I buy I have this camera too ...
For a T mount lens, you'll need a T mount to Nikon F adapter.
Thankyou so much
I can use to short video for this camela?
Nope. This is for still images only.
Hi my picture set control is not opening I don't know what's wrong. Nikon D3000
Check video 3, which covers all the menu settings. There might be something in there that helps. If not, let me know.
WHY IS MY SD CRAD SAYING THERE ARE NO IMAGES IN THIS FOLDER,THOUGH I HAVE TAKEN A FEW PHOTOS
There are a few potential reasons and I would need a lot more info to find out why. If you check the Nikon forums website, someone there can probably help answer your question.
