    I’m 15 and bought my first bike during the winter (a 2001 klr 250) realized I was to short for it and didn’t like it (my dad test drove it cus I had no idea what the hell a clutch was) and I thought might as well see if I could sell it on Facebook and somehow made $500 off of it and I used the money to buy my 2013 xt 250 with over 19,000 miles on it, the second I got on it I felt like I was 10 times better at riding, I could flatfoot, I could actually start it, and overall it’s just an amazing bike. Next month I turn 16 and can get my license, can’t wait to finally take it on the street by myself. I even got my dad to buy a bike to after like 30 years (a 2020 dr 200) I have no idea why this bike isn’t more popular, it’s literally perfect.

    Had one in the 80's and had many miles of fun on pavement, dirt roads, fields. 2024 now, time to get a new one! Ride smart and have fun!

      Yes, it was hard enough for me to find one within my budget of $2K, so I was surprised to find mine at that price and condition. My patience paid off. I gave it a thorough check-over at the time to make sure something major wasn't hidden.

    I sometimes would like a bike with more power. But, am starting to realize it may not be practical. Other bikers are shocked I can ride for 5 hours or more on my stock tank. I am usually on sugar sanded wood trails. I don't want to haul gas containers with me. Plus, I sometimes see the bigger bikes where I am at. I realize I can go anywhere they can. (In my preferred riding environment) It would be hard to beat the XT250 for the type riding I do.

      I agree with you there. The XT250 is peppy enough for me, and if I take it off road, I wouldn't want something heavier anyway. If it was more interstate-friendly I'd be happier, but I'd like to stay off the highways anyway. So yes, I catch myself dreaming of other bikes, but the XT is perfectly practical for my needs.

    Great commentary. My wife wasn't thrilled my first go around with bikes... then I wrecked. Fast forward to my midlife crisis. She's still not happy about my XT250X or it's garage pals. But hey, we got to have some fun right. I ride the same as you basically so pretty safe there.

      I understand my wife's reluctance about me riding on the road, especially in these days of distracted driving. About four years ago, an early morning biker was killed via hit-and-run just a couple hundred feet from our driveway, which didn't help my case. I've been wanting another motorcycle (maybe a road bike) but I probably won't win that fight.

      @xt250rides8 At least the one you have is a great one. I get the daily motorcycle traffic crash deaths updates from mine 🫤

    Do you know if you can start your 250 in gear? I was going to disconnect my kickstand switch. Don't want it leaving me stuck. But, read in the manual. If the kickstand is up, bike in gear. It should start if the clutch lever is in. I just tried that. And it didn't work.

      @xt250rides8  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I believe that it should start under those conditions (kickstand up, clutch in, in or out of gear). Mine had a wandering idle at one time and I thought that I was able to re-start it at stoplights without going into neutral.

      @@xt250rides8 Thanks. I am going to rewire both the clutch, and the kickstand. I don't see them as being necessary. And, believe the bike will be more reliable.

    Did you say 300,000 miles?!

    • @xt250rides8
      @xt250rides8  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes, but the bike actually had only a little over 3,000 miles on it. Unfortunately the seller put the wrong digits on the title in front of me and the notary and made it 300,000+ miles. There were too many factors going on at the time (height of COVID, seller with mobility issues, distance to the seller, etc.) to demand that he fix it and re-schedule the sale. I can apply for a title fix (which is why I took a pic of the current local paper and the odometer) but I never got around to it.

      Makes sense now!
      I thought it actually had 300,000 miles and I was thinking how!
      Nice video, enjoy the ride.
