  • I was lucky to get my hands on a 2022 Yamaha Xt250 dual sport motorcycle at www.woodscyclecountry.com in New Braunsfels, Texas.
    It is a great bike with a low seat height.
    Insurance is inexpensive and I got a great price; at least I think I got a great price.
    There is no place to ride near where I live. But, I live near Fort Hood, Texas, and I will be getting a range pass so I can go fishing in the lakes and ponds on Fort Hood.
    You are also invited to watch some of my 2020 Triumph Speedmaster videos.
    Have a great day!
    Your gracious donation to keep the channel rolling would be greatly appreciated:

      Not at all bad at this dealer. I have bought two bikes from them in a year and they really are spot-on with everything they do. They really give a shit about you as a customer - they are a family-owned business and that makes a big difference.

    Nice bike! Can’t find any of those anywhere in Canada. 66 years old. Haven’t ridden for decades but wanted a little more fun in life after covid. Had a Grom on order since March. “It’s in a container somewhere between Thailand and here”. Finally called around. Kawasaki dealer was just taking their last klx230 out of a crate (first week of August). I gave the salesman a deposit right then. Called the Honda dealer and asked if they would mind selling the Grom to someone else when the container eventually arrived. “No problem”.
    Rode that bike off the lot and right into a rainstorm🙈 Hands clamped onto the grips so hard it took about 5 minutes before the pins and needles were gone enough so I could operate my wallet to put gas in the beast. Then took a motorcycle riding course all last weekend. Learned so much stuff. I just didn’t know what I didn’t know. Unbelievable. And it was fun! I might take it again next year and make a video.

    Congrats on the new bike! Several years ago I was going to buy a new 2016 FJR 1300A from Ride Now Georgetown and ran into the same thing you did, lots of add-on ridiculous fees so looked elsewhere and found one with no additional fees or charges from Destination Cycle in Kerville TX, totally was worth the ride out there to pick it up as I saved around $1100.
    Enjoy the new bike and be safe.

Salesman asked me for 5K out the door, they got me to 4.8K, I said you would blow a deal for 200 bucks and he said, "yes"(did not get the Grom). You are correct, deals are tuff right now, if you find what you like get it. With interest rates going up, 200 bucks, looks pretty small. Happy you got a deal you can live with. Happy trails and be safe.

    The XT250 is a fun little bike. I bought a used 2009 with about 1200 miles last February. It looks the same, but it's carbureted. I bought it for my teenage daughter but I was so pleasantly surprised by how much fun it is to ride that I take it with me in my camper whenever I go camping. I take it and a KLX300. I actually prefer the XT250 as a woods bike. The low seat height and weight just make it so easy to ride. I've bought a couple bikes at Woods also, a KLR650 and a Versys X-300. Now that they have Royal Enfield and Indian, they've got something for just about anyone. Congrats and enjoy!

    Little trick we did back in the day for the clutch and brake lever is to just hand tighten so it won't move but if you put your weight into it you can move it then when you hit the ground and turns instead of braking then you can push it back into spot and giver. 👍🏼🤠 I ran the shit out of a dt125 1983 for about 15 years and did the top end and sold it and that little bugger is still going somewhere I bet.

    I'm looking at all kinds of bikes just like that. You made the right choice because those heavy adventure bikes, it takes the fun out of it. It sort of works, but you lay it down in the mud and try to get it up again. The lighter the better as long as it gets you to the trail. Not that I've had one. I have a 600 Shadow that I take on old roads and once I tried it on a trail and barely got out of there. It only weighs a little over 400, like 420 or something, but it's too much weight when you get off trail.

    I really like your video. Many of us go through the same thought process and experience in buying a bike. I agree with you on the ridiculous dealer fees. Some of those might make a little bit of sense on a new bike but not on a used bike. It is just a way of upping the price after they think you have your heart set on the bike. You have to be cool headed and walk away which you did. I prefer to buy with cash rather than a loan if I can so I can get away with basic liability insurance. That is one of the reasons that I like these smaller bikes. I can afford to buy them outright and save money on the cost of insurance and interest.

    Interesting you mention "Rambo" and his XT (well, not technically his). That movie was filmed right down the road from me, in Hope BC Canada, and that very bike came up for sale a couple of years ago in the local dual sport forum. Apparently it had been bought after the filming, and kept here safe and sound.

    Gotta love dealers and their fees and claiming they check things so thoroughly, yet they are cheap as it gets with actually fixing anything. I bought a 5 year old SUV last summer from a big family name dealer in my area. I noticed no odd noises or issues when I test drove it on two separate occasions. After a few days of driving it, I noticed the brakes were squealing at creeping speeds and the pedal felt a little soft. I took it to my excellent auto shop I trust to have them looked at, and they said the pads were low and it needed rotors. (Mind you, the dealer had changed the oil and had marked on the sticker the brakes were “fair”. I had the brake job done because I was going on a camping trip the following week and would be pulling my trailer. I contacted my salesman about the brakes to see what the dealer would say about it. I was told their shop followed procedures and the brakes passed their inspection, and they couldn’t look at them again by my complaint because I had already replaced them. It chafes my behind that they could’ve put a cheap set of new pads on it and the brakes would’ve been quiet and fine for a little while, but nope…

    Thanks for the video sir. I'm from Dallas/ Ft Worth but now live in Seattle unfortunately. I have never owned a motorcycle and only recently have I been looking to buy one seriously. I saw that same bike and wanted it almost immediately. I know nothing of motorcycles, but it looks pretty gosh darn rad! I love the look of dirt bikes and it takes me back to that 80's feeling. Had no idea that bike was on Rambo not did I know that they made them back then. My credit is just average and have been trying to build it up. I don't see how I could pay what you pay a month for it. I have a driver's license but haven't had a vehicle in ages. I have been just renting vehicles since living in Seattle since 2006. Could you give me any advice other than what you said already on video? I will definitely look into the insurance part for that particular bike. I feel this would be the perfect bug out bike. Thanks again bud and hope to hear from ya! Hope all is going well with that super cool bike of yours! I'm jealous!!!

    They're great little bikes. I have a 2017 XT250 that I bought new. It has 4300 miles on it now. No issues at all, never been back to the dealer. I 've checked the valves once (exhaust side was a little tight). Just oil changes, chain maintenance, new air filter and one new battery. My typical riding speed on the county roads is 50 mph indicated (45 mph per the gps). The speedo is optimistic by 5 mph. The indicated 50 mph has the engine turning 5000 rpm (I added a small induction tachometer). I knew the limitations of this bike when I purchased it and avoid high speed roads. The little engine seems very happy at 5000 rpm.

      @@alexchristian5399 Well, they are different.
      I am 6ft tall & CRF250L is almost too tall for me. I deal with it, but have dropped it many times.
      I went down 2 teeth on the cs sprocket & love the creeper low first gear. Top speed is still way faster than all the posted limits on the roads I ride, & at 50 mph I'm just over 5k rpm (halfway to redline)
      I bought the XT for my shorter daughter.
      It was the perfect seat height for me, but I lowered it 2" for her. The XT five spd gearbox is great. The gears are spaced wider than the 6 spd CRF. I don't really like shifting through 6 close ratio gears every time I go a short distance.
      The liquid cooling on the CRF250L is probably much better in every way, but on the other hand, the air cooled XT has no cooling system to deal with.
      To sum it up IMHO, (& I'm older than sheet) for the way I ride, the XT is easier to throw around & more fun on the trails, and the CRF is easier & more fun to ride on the twisty back roads. I'm tempted to get a set of aftermarket wheel assemblies and throw some road tires on it.
      Neither bike is raceworthy, but very funworthy.

      A dealer near me in NYS has 5 XT's and 3 TW's no big deal if the dealers order them at the right time when Yamaha offers them. Not covid starved any more. All depends on the dealer's reputation with Yamaha too as some dealers get offered more of certain models than others. Before covid the dealers around me struggled to sell the Xt's and the TW's so they didn't order them but since covid everybody thinks they want them. Watch... once the dealers get inventories back up to what they were 80 % of all the dual sports sold will be for sale used with real low mileage because so many people thought they wanted them when we were all quarantined. The same thing with those little Honda CT 125's. Everybody and their brother wants one of those right now for some reason then in a year or 2 after all the people that wanted them bought one and find out how slow and worthless for any serious riding those toys are there will be a lot of used ones for sale.

  • @not1au
    @not1au Před 2 lety +3

    The consignment price on the 2020 wasn't to recoup the original buyers money he already had the screws put to him. The dealership was trying to make you pay the same bogus fees the first buyer did for the same bike. I had a deposit on the 2021 CRF300L and bought a used 2021 XT ( 400 miles) before the Honda came in. Gave 5k for it and probably could've talked the guy down a couple more hundred. I was just glad I didn't send the almost $1500.00 in dealership fees. They lie and say most of the markup beyond the MSRP is Tax,Tile and License but they had the brakedown on the Honda. Unfortunately for them I can read and do simple math. Saved money or not I'm glad I bought the XT it's a great bike.

    • @ThreeBikeMike
      @ThreeBikeMike  Před 2 lety

      Six and one-half dozen of the other. Depends on if they put him on another bike when he brought it back. Cannot know for sure. Weeks later, salesman texted me to see if I am still interested in an XT250. I did not respond.

    • @not1au
      @not1au Před 2 lety

      @@ThreeBikeMike Also if you look at the maintenance schedule of the CRF300L you spend a lot more money versus the XT. Can't remember exactly what it was but it's more costly to maintain that the CRF250L. I'd much rather have a 2020 250L than the 2021 300L because of the maintenance price difference. The XT is great maintenance wise. I got to thinking about dealerships and there ways and at 600 miles instead of taking my bike in for maintenance I spent a few dollars for the feeler gauges to check and see if my vavles were in specs myself. The vavles were spot on. People will say if you don't take it in for maintenance it voids the warranty but nothing is going to happen to the XT in a years time unless I abuse it. So I saved the money I was going to spend having the dealership do nothing but an oil change for hundreds of dollars and changed the oil myself. The whole vavles clearance check is probably the manufacturer helping the dealer rape the customer because those vavle nuts are tight as hell nothing is vibrating loose. I know you'll enjoy the bike because is a great one.

    No matter what anyone says or what you think "setup fee" at a dealership is a 100% RIPOFF. Motorcycles from the big manufacturers are 100% built, tested and shipped assembled. Does anyone with half a brain think a motorcycle manufacturer is going to build a motorcycle to exact specs, disassemble it for Joe shit the rag man at the dealership to reassemble it then warranty it? 2 miles from my house is a warehouse filled with motorcycles and four wheels fully assembled in creates. Dealerships only put gas and oil in these bikes. If you buy a hawk motorcycle or similar then they do set it up. Why are people so stupid believing the setup crap? Do car dealers put the wheels on brand new cars from the manufacturer? Do you think Lowes and HomeDepot have a team of pit stop type mechanics that setup their riding lawn mowers. Do golf carts get sent to the Pro Shop to be assembled? Does taking a part the create the motorcycle is shipped in considered setting it up? Look at all motorcycle manufacturers web sites and each motorcycle list an MSRP it also says DOES NOT INCLUDE DESTINATION FEE. No where on any of those sites does it say, SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED. This is CZcams people watch videos like this on CZcams but there is also videos of motorcycle manufacturers building their bikes from start to finish.
