Flea Market HiFi - Episode 2 - Early Compact Cassettes and Vintage Radios Thrifting Finds

- Thrift stores in my area have been terrible when it comes to finding vintage electronics and stereo equipment for years. Luckily, we do have quite a few vendor malls and flea markets in the area. I tend to come across some pretty nice finds at those. Some want retail or more, so I have to pass on those, but occasionally I'll find a deal too good to pass up. What will we find in this episode? Come along and find out!

That Ricky Lee Jones at 3:20 is one of my favorite LPs of all time
"I don't need another cassette deck" - me, as I buy yet another cassette deck. That radio is really cool - it's as old as I am.
If you could see how many I currently have. Lol. And I'm sure I'll still buy more.
Ho ho ho ...Currently I have 4 cassette decks....so you're not the only one...welcome to club
It's not as old as I am, but it's still cool.
At 2:40, I could smell those records as you flipped through them.
They do have an unforgettable smell, don't they.
Harder Faster at 3:39 ... that's a killer album !
That HP Pavilion, yeah, nah. I had one brand new in ‘99 when I went to art school, paid $2600 for it. It was decent-a Pentium III instead of the Celeron in the one you saw-actually had better specs than the machines in the computer labs we worked in, and was okay-ish for the 3D modeling I was working on, but it only lasted two years for me before the motherboard fried; my dad and I had to cobble a new machine together from TigerDirect over a weekend because my final quarter was going to start and it was time to put a portfolio and demo reel together. What we built was way better than the HP, far more customizable, at a fraction of the price.
None of it mattered though, because ten days before I graduated, the World Trade Center was hit and because of the grounded flights, the potential employers that were supposed to attend our graduation never arrived, and trying to find a job just ended up becoming that more difficult. That’s all an excuse though because well before that point I was pretty disillusioned by the whole thing and had realized that my interest in art was a coping mechanism for a lifetime of crippling depression and should never have been a professional goal.
Anyway, uh, haha, you sure dodged a bullet on that Pavilion! Zing! _[comical sad __-trombone-__ slide whistle]_
Love this hifi hunting series. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks! My plan is to release one every 6-8 weeks, as long as the selection around here doesn't drop off.
You past up some great grabs with that April wine,
And the Cheech & Chong’s… 👀
That Big Bambu might have had the big white owl in it… 🔥💨💨💨😊
I have Up in Smoke in my collection already, but you're the second person to mention April Wine. I'm going to have to check them out. I'm not familiar.
I was thinkin the same thing lol
HAM Radio?? Hello , want to say that we had radio club, YU7IGH. I was not operator, but doing electronics in constructors section. So, once again, hello!!!
@ 3:00
You should snap up that Asleep At The Wheel tape! It could be the best buy of the day.
The Coca Cola crate immediately caught my eye, I have a Hires root beer crate I took from my parents. We lined it with blankies and use it as a cat bed.
The Windsor radio is awesome! Nice find
I thought it was too cool to pass up!
As soon as I saw the form factor of that radio I thought 70s. I had a Wien radio the same shape, clad in fake leather back then. Never heard of the brand since, must have been a cheap one that I got for Christmas. Many thanks for transporting me back in time.
Thanks for watching! It's funny how things like that stick in our memories and then randomly pop back up like that.
I live in the ny area and there used to be stores like this around at large indoor flea markets, lately it’s just goodwill that doesn’t have anything as interesting as the places you visited. Goodwill cherry picks all the good stuff and sells it online like eBay at inflated prices like that stereo all in one for 165$ they think they have gold. Even the store prices are ridiculous, I wanted a clock that had 10$ price ,one of the hands was not working, it was still 10$ broken or not.
That Windsor radio is awesome what a bargain 👌👌
I don't use my ATARI 2600 either because I no longer have it in my possession . . . ever since I acquired the Colecovision Expansion Module #1, which was the ATARI 2600 emulator. Regardless, I had the Defender game for ATARI 2600, I might even still have it for I do not recall what games I still possess, for many were stolen from me! I would highly recommend picking it up, for it was a decent game for the ATARI 2600!!!
We need more shop hopping for old tech👌
Agree!
1:07 Amen! "JENSEN" was\is a bargain brand ... lol, like you say, probably that multi-stereo wasn't even $165 when it was new!
If it was a TEAC, Akai, Bang & Olufsen, perhaps Sony ...
There are some great albums in the cassette selection at 8 minutes. Shadow King is a band with the former Foreigner singer Lou Gramm and future Def Leppard Guitarist Vivian Campbell (and ex member of Dio, Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy and more). Highly recommended.
I'll have to check that out. I'm not familiar with that album.
bowling on the atari is not boring LOL I actually love it. still play my atari, actually had it modded to fit my flatscreen. love it
Everyone has a favorite game. Lol. River Raid all the way for me!
These people buy stuff from Goodwill and then sell it for 5x the price.
I believe that. eBay too !
So? Whats your point?
@@mattwilliams6960 It's obvious to anyone with an IQ above 80.
Sounds like a pretty smart thing to me!
Nice to see the Cheech and Chong albums and that there's places that still price 80's cassettes reasonably.
Right on
Oh wow. Neat video, definitely subscribing
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Welcome aboard!
Those prices 😱. Is anyone buying them for those prices? They're not exactly collector's items... Broken and dirty too.
But yeah, nice finds. Always fun to browse in an 'old junk' store 😁
I'll take the SCL and L&N Railroad sign . My dad worked for the L&N Railroad for 30 years .
10:06: I saw one similar to it here, new in the box for $15. Didn't grab it tho. Last time I was there, I believe it was still there. Probably won't move too fast.
Probably not many people wanting to buy something so outdated.
That's not a16mm movie camera it's either 8 or super 8, i have one that was my uncle's.
After watching that again, yep you're right. Too small to be 16mm.
We have a local flea market coming up this summer. I've got a bunch of stuff to sell. Not in a hurry to sell it either.
Couple of those LP's you breezed past, are worth over $1000 each
Seriously?
Which ones ?
Lies
@@fourone5172 wanna bet?
up in smoke record is dope
9:30: That's nice.
I love 1970s electronics with brown leather or wood grain..
That's their iconic look!
4:30: Those type are everywhere. I got lucky and found a radiant heat toaster at an antique store last year out of town, Still in the box for $13. Of course after a few uses it quit working and since I know nothing about them, sold it for 65. Somebody knows what was wrong with it and can fix it. Anyway, That was the buy of the year for me. Those are high priced ones you don't find many of, but in eBay of course, and WAY out of line price wise....
was the rolling paper still in the Big Bambu album?
Shoot, I would have bought that April Wine lp. They rock!
I'll have to check them out.
@@VintageElectronicsChannel classic Canadian rockers from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Great sound to drink a few cold ones over 🍻😁
I like these videos
Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
They good stuff sometimes
Every now and then I find a gem there.

Thanks for subscribing! 73 de W9CSB
5:05: Storm chase camera !
Slim Pickens anymore. Flippers everywhere. eBay was a good and bad.
Found some old audio tubes the other day.
Same ones on fleabay going for over $100 bucks each.
Leo sayer cassette
Ya one album was signed. By the way you sound just like Warren Buffet but then again I don't think he'll visit too many second hand stores.
Wow I cud spend ages in that store
I spend way too long in places like this.
At glance,,,seen cheech & chongs up in smoke and that bambu album,,😮
His N Hers has a lot of vinyl
I've found some great albums there and every now and then some other treasures, too. That's one of my favorite places.
The only good part of that radio is the box.
Windsor was a bargain-basement brand with little concern for performance.
If any of its products work well, consider that to be a chance occurrence.
It definitely has the look and feel of a bargain brand. The fact it survived was one of the things that was appealing to me.
That place is cool but they got the lounge jazz music WAYYYY too loud!
id buy the hp system 4 sure
If it wasn't so pricey, I'd have picked it up.
Where is this store? I wouldn’t mind taking a trip to see it
It's in Evansville, IN
DVDs can only go up in value over the next 3-5 years
You walked right past a cheech and chong LP and didn't even see if it had the infamous rolling paper in it.. Would have been a nice score..
Missed that one!
Just wondering what city and state is that thrift store in if you don’t mind saying if you don’t want to say I understand I just subscribed also so so far so good for me. Thanks.
Evansville, IN
@@VintageElectronicsChannel well, I guess I won’t be going there anytime soon I’m in Southern California in the high desert. Thanks.
That would be a bit of a drive. Lol
I can use that keyer. go back and get it for me.
Just bagged a Silver Nakmichi 480z for £48.95 (English money lol)
I wish I could be so lucky!
@@VintageElectronicsChannel don't know what's wrong with it yet??
Super enjoyable. Dead people's stuff lol
Thanks for watching!
LookyLooky is close to my house I found some good 45s and cassettes and albums too😊
I've found some great things there recently too.
Where is the hi-fi????
Where is here ?
These places are in the Evansville, IN area.
I don't mean to be mean by pointing this out. Everything in every store that is available is NOT selling. The sold stuff you'd never see or know ever existed.
That's true. I tend to visit these places regularly, so I can see what's still there and what's new. I also have a few folks who let me know if something I may be interested in shows up.
If you died penniless, then these items are dead peoples items. If you are rich then it is an estate items. I got lots of items stored in storage places, in couple of decades they will be dead man items. That is the reality for a junk hoarder.
Dual cassette players are Junk, would you buy a dual CD Player.
where is this?
These places were around Evansville, Indiana.
You have decent taste in electronics but your taste in music lol Wang Chung ?
That one particular song from Wang Chung, "Everybody Have Fun Tonight", for some reason brings back memories of the 1980s. Not sure why. Maybe I remember seeing the video on MTV or something. The rest of their catalog? Nope!
Coca Cola brings back memories huh? You remember it as Coca~Cola, or do you always remember that stupid looking dot between the words? Mandela Effect.
I remember it being a stylized hyphen between the words.
@@VintageElectronicsChannel Exactly! It’s never been that way anymore. Strange right?
All garbage.
