We need more and more of this. No matter if people think it's repetitive and boring, we need to make people understand the difference between fit and style. I used to be horrified by the way PROFF dress, until I did my research and informed myself better.
Now you know better Sir Timple 😁

It is unbelievably true what is said about asksokey post-modernism. We’re seeing more and more in the fashion industry a baggy/loose fit comeback from street wear all the way up to formal and classic looks. I firmly believe that this suit style is going to come back soon. Keep doing what you are doing! Can’t wait to get my hands on one of your suits.

4:34 - You're absolutely right about that Pete. I can tell you exactly what the Suits I've been seeing from Okey remind me of in the best possible way. As a guy who grew up in the 1990's, whenever I think of the words "Men's Suit" I think about Mr. Big in Season 1 of Sex in the City. Being from New York, at that time, that whole cut was just so masculine and for me was peak suave. You both have me thinking about a suit for the first time in a decade.
Delighted to hear Spirit 😁
Hope you get back to suits

The fact is that I rather enjoy suits from the 30s and 40s. I understand how the askokey suit is not the same but I feel like it has a bit of vintage inspiration and that’s what I really like about it.
This is very nice.wish I had known this before. I am 38. I started wearing full cut trousers with pleats. Leg opening 8.8 inches wide and absolutely love it. It's very balanced look and very classy.

What you don’t know, you don’t know until one becomes enlightened
In regard to the “youthful rebellion” conversation, I very much agree. I’m 19 and have only just started to acquire more for my wardrobe, and wear semi-casual as a close to daily occurrence. I’ve found that while I certainly like how I look in the clothing, I’m sometimes put off simply because of the reaction my peers have to it. The act of simply wearing a buttoned shirt is enough to get light jabs from all my friends. So yes, I definitely agree that there’s some light cultural pressure from people my age to stay strictly casual, even on university campuses. I think it’s absolutely great we live in a time where no one is bound to the suit as a sort of prison uniform, where people can dress however without fear of being ostracized, but it’s almost swung a bit around where wearing any sort of formal or semi-formal wear is “dull” or “not unique”. Given that not many people do it in my age bracket, I tend to think it’s possibly the most self-expressive thing one could do.
Thanks for the informative videos, I really appreciate them! When i’m no longer a broke university student I’ll be itching to get a suit from you.
Very well written Kadin. As I’ve always said …

Great quality stuff. I hope that you guys never get frustrated or discouraged by the negative comments. I believe this style is not ahead of its time, rather the right time.
Men (some/most) are getting tired of having limited options when it comes to men’s clothes, and suits specifically. I see this as the starting point for a new wave of style that many men will come to like. I know I have as I became more knowledgeable and become frustrated w options I see commonly. Keep it up, and one day ima buy one of these and proudly wear it

I love your inventory and your classic philosophy on style. I love the fuller forms as opposed to the tight things you can buy today.
Also, more loosely related, I love the Miami (Vice) style from the 1980's. Ample garments, light colors that really convey masculine presence and breezy, cool attitude. Are you familiar?

I'm not sure why there is so much concern with this critique of "you make clothes for old people" or comments of the like. That sort of remark comes from children. They are either adults who never evolved or literal children. Social media is a space that is dominated by many forms of children. Additionally, there is a sum of people who have been convinced that aging is bad, and dress to emulate youth (often failing). They no longer have respect for their elders, or have never encountered elders worth respect. Either way, their opinions are narrow and naïve, why do we care for their critique?
Love this comment ❤️ it's the guys that still want to wear the fitted ball caps with the stickers on it,white tees, and 100 Jordans pushing their 50's. I love men that dress in suits or even button ups.

I think that this is a perfect, as in excellent, good, outstanding example of digital democracy. Democracy is supposed to breed a generation of thinkers and rationalists amongst the demos, and I think Okey has it. It is seasoned reason. It is the same conclusions I have come to as a suit fitter before then now, after COVID. The clothes we wore were unsatisfactory, and they did not align with reason. We now are coming to that better place, and this digital democracy has in times, bred men with more reason.

I truly enjoy what you are presenting. Your are so clear and well informed and educationally helpful.
I am hoping you will address the area regarding the etiquette of tie knots and the proper use of Tie pins, tie tacks, tie bars and tie clips. Possibly, the inclusion of cuff links. Bow tie vs slim and wide ties, for asserting individual style. Thanks again, for your point of view on how to look like a 'Real' man not some effeminate non-descript male.

White tie will be released towards the end of 2024
I am so glad to see the Proff alive and well. Also, in response to your earlier subject regarding age and this type of dress. I will say that I myself am a younger man (early 30s) and it did take me a while to understand the vision of AskOkey. Having said that, yourself and Pete do such a thorough and magnificent job explaining and educating people in the tenants of menswear. That alone has afforded me the ability to understand what is quality, what the purpose is behind fuller cut clothing, and the benefits of having that level of quality within my wardrobe. It also empowers a man to understand how to make the best decisions for himself, regardless of what his budget may be.
Very eloquently written sir 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you for the submission and a warm welcome aboard 🔥
Hi Okey- loving the information and here is a simple question - are you using buttons for the fly for the high waist trousers because modern zip flys don’t work because they have to be too long?
I appreciate sharing your knowledge. The only suggestion is that intro song to the video is really not fitting to the channel. Why not get a more elegant song.
Oh yeah? What would you suggest as a jungle? 😁
@@AskOkeyInc Something a bit more timeless, such as the song "A beautiful mind" (the intro song to the TV show Madmen) the current intro is more fitting to a channel about tuning street cars in 2014. 😂 Just my 2 cents

@@joshhansan-bj6ju PREACH Sir Josh 🙌🏾
Right now we are seeing a sad decline in tailored menswear as the industry is being overtaken by cheap globalized ready-to-wear manufacturing. The average person has lost touch with fit vs silhouette. They only understand clothes fit the body and assume the closer they fit the better. But you notice most of these skinny suits dont actually fit most men, they wrinkle and pull and have awful horizontal lines everywhere.
And that Sir/Maam ….. Is what we are here to fix

As much as I repsect and adorn classical menswear and watching the two of them discussing it, I have to disagree to an extent regarding the first topic of discussion.
It's mentioned how many viewers regard and associate the AskOkey's suit design/silhouette with the one of the 1940's, and this view is questioned by Peter. It's interesting to note as the AskOkey silhouette if anything resembles the golden-era suit design of the 1930s and perhaps 1940s. Judging by the images and videos I've seen, the suit design seems to be fullcut, structured, with a padded chest and shoulders and an overall higer buttoning point and lower lapel-gorges. Especially the wider lapels and slightly higher buttoning point resembles the 1930s and 1940s suit designs respectively. 1930s suits especially are known for their more "masculine" structure, having nipped-in waists, wider lapels, structured and padded shoulders e.t.c. much like how Peter describes the AskOkey design with the accompanied images.
It's also fascinating that Peter mentions that the AskOkey design more resembles the 1980s, which I also have to disagree with to an extent. In comparison, 1980s suits were as mentioned less structured and more drapey, quite the opposite of the AskOkey design. 1980s suits also had comparatively lower buttoning points and proportionally lower lapelgorges and overall more "droopy" lapels, not to mention they were not quite as wide as AskOkey's ones generally speaking.
All-in-all it's a great discussion and the suit design is beautiful. :)
Kungen. I agree with almost everything you’ve said above
Pete and I don’t always share exact views 😊

Yes, nothing is truly modern because fashion is cyclical. We went from full cut to slim to baggy to slim to baggy again. I just discovered AskOkey a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying the advice. I turn 26 next month and am getting my first suit that's made for me and I think fuller cuts can be very flattering, particularly on a broader frame. I do have an OTR slim suit but I generally like the middle ground between roomy and skinny. People usually call it tailored or modern. I also find even with casual clothing that going just a size up is a bit more comfortable as I have a fairly average figure albeit with a curved posture and slight belly that fluctuates.
Welcome Aboard Pip. Delighted to have you on board 😁

Indeed Roger. We covered this in a previous podcast
This is a fashion industry infomercial.
While I completely agree on the modernism thing, it all depends on our physicality and actual climate, that should be the main concern. Pick your thing accordingly, suit should be practical and complement the body.
Of course. But your statement is too general
Sean Connery wears pleated trousers in most of his James Bond films. However, the trousers have a rather narrow leg opening and narrow knee circumference. Sean Connery’s suits for the James Bond films were made by Savile row tailors in the early to mid 1960s. Those people certainly knew what they were doing. So, no, a pleated front does not mean trousers have to be full, and a flat front doesn’t mean they have to be slim. And pleats themselves can be quite deep or very narrow. The assumption that pleats serve a functional purpose is a myth. Full cut trousers (when they fit well!) are going to feel comfortable around the hips and seat no matter whether they are pleated or not. Pleats are, essentially, an element of style. I personally think that pleats are elegant and even when they’re quite shallow they help create a uniform front line from the bottom of the trouser all the way to the waist.
As you wish Countal
I explained the “physics” of pleats. Disregard it if you wish

I dont agree with the comparison of your style to the 1980s, as your fabric choises, high rise and wide lapels are very much 40s/50s, with only the structure, lapel width and full trousers being a similarity in the 80s and 90s. You dont need to have lived in the 40s to 80s to know this, since we have photos, clothes and fashion plates from that era that are the spitting image of your design. great episode tho.
