Montecristi doesn't come from Panama, it comes from Ecuador. The reason why the hat is called Panama, is because it was used during the construction of the Panama canal by the workers and engineers and became extremely popular. But it comes from Ecuador, made by hand by indigenous people.

Great video! Truly informative. Thank you AskOkey! Just one clarification: Christy's still makes most of their hats at their factory in Oxfordshire, England (apparently, I am a big fan of Christy's hats😂)
You mentioned elk hair as a material for hat manufacturing. I have never come across any hats in elk/moose/deer. Can you or someone else please point me in the right direction? I tried looking at the Optimo hats website but found nothing.

In Australia a hat is to protect your head from the sun and the cold, depending on the season.

Very elegant as always sir. How do you store/protect your hats when travelling? One issue I had with my hat when on holiday was protection. My straw hat suffered lost its original shape, most especially in the brim. I think it fell from my hand a few times.

Btw, I'm losing some hair at my age, so wearing hats is required for me cos living near the equator, skin cancer is something I don't want to happen in my lifetime.

Sir, you should really inform yourself first before you appear as an export on hats. Lot's of mixed up informations. Montecristi is the area in ecquardor from with the Panama hats made of toquilla straw are actually made. Milan straw hat is made of a specific straw from italy and usually made in the city of Milan.

I had thought the same thing when watching this video. There was lots of useful information that was given in this video and this gentleman even mentioned he was not an expert on hats while talking about Panama hats.

Alex, I can’t offer much advice on color without actually seeing you. However very light colors don’t go well with a pale complexion due to a lack of contrast.
