I've always heard this song but never could find the name of it, thank you much ole friend.
Glad to do it :)
"we're just gonna bend it, cuz why? cuz it sounds cool" ... hahahaha you're killing me @jimpankey Love it, stoked to learn this tune.
What better reason, right? 😀
This is awesome! I've been wanting to learn little sadie for a long while now but most tutorials are for clawhammer style. I'd love if you made a tutorial one day for the cuckoo. Thanks for everything you do Jim!
Awesome! Thank you!
My favorite version of this was done by David Grissman and Bill Keith. Your version is very good.
Love that version!!!
Awesome, thank you. I have picked the banjo back up after probably 12 years, and I love your videos. I'm 38 and started playing at 15 . You are a very good teacher !!
Thanks for letting me help you learn 😊
Its a great start! Thanks Jim
You bet!
As always Jim, very good, even here in the sand of Dubai!
Many thanks!
Thanks for this one Jim! I know what I'm going to be working on today! I love this tune. And I love that in bluegrass you bend a string and it's called a "choke". Especially when you're playing a classic murder ballad.
Totally appropriate 💀
Love this song, one of my faves since I heard Doc and Merle play it at the Winfield festival.
I’ve played guitar for about sixty years and decided to learn (clawhammer) banjo. So I bought me a long neck Vega. I get a lot of inspiration from your videos, even the three-finger ones. So thanks for posting!
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you. You are a great teacher.
Thank you for letting me help 😊
Thank you Jim, excellent I instructions
Very welcome
great stuff
thanks
Really like this, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
I’ve played this on guitar for years and have been trying to decide what to learn next on banjo, sure enough you drop this video! Decision made easy!
Favorite versions are ol Doc of course and the rare Grateful Dead version 💀
Awesome!
You burning them strings up 👍
Thanks 😊
I don't think I've ever heard this song before.
It's an oldie. :)
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
😆
Beautiful playing once again Jim Pankey! Do we get kicked outta class if we play thumb index thumb index? (ha ha ha ... in that specific section 🙃)
Do as you wish, but you risk jacking up the timing
Hey Jim. I would appreciate an opinion. I am going to buy a Recording King banjo and not sure if I should get an RKR35 or RKR36, is it worth the few extra bucks for a 36? I have their open back and love it. Thanks for teaching me how to play!!
Either is a great choice. Both are the same quality. The 36 has a glossy finish and is mahogany, where the 35 is satin and maple. So, essentially, get the 36 if you want a shiny finish. Both sound great.
I can play it Clarence Tom Ashely style.. quite simple really...but so many online lessons. Time to apply myself GD it!
You can do it!
...or could play it if my banjo was set up like his. BG style is beautiful btw. It can be played other than in G Modal???
@@tomloeb4551it's a modal tune. Could be changed, but wouldn't have the same vibe.
Thank you for doing this song. I’ve been waiting for it, but if I don’t want to end it, how could I repeat the chorus before that end lick?
It just repeats everything
Okay thank you!
Jim did I notice a pull off ?
Nope
Is this in standard tuning?
Yes
Far out T shirt Jim...
Thanks. Got it from instagram.com/pirate_dyes
Prob the 17 thousandth time you've been asked but what are ur favorite brand of strings.
LaBella
@@JimPankey best sounding you reckon. Do they make the med light
@davidstanich9369 I use these: www.labella.com/strings/category/pure-nickel-5-string-banjo/
@davidstanich9369 medium/light means different things to different companies.
@@JimPankey I just had a new bone nut made on the old deering. Will it only properly fit the one gauge of string?
