When you said you were making video about the history of the MMORPG genera I did not expect you to start at the origen of of videogames themselves, but the video is certainly more interesting for this level of thoroughness. Very interested to see what next you have in store.

Honestly one of the best longform videos about the evolution of the MMO genre. 10/10 video would rewatch and let the FFXI level down sound effect awaken my old Valkrum Dunes PTSD
I actually started my MMO journey in Everquest. Fun Fact I often played with a guild that had several devs of WoW in it... Hence I knew the players behind the inspiration of several NPCs in WoW :D
Also loosing hours of grinding is an understatement - the max I ever lost was about 2 weeks of playing in one evening....
It was definitely worth waiting for this video. Great presentation and easy to digest

@@LuminNox how can u be sure about that? were u standing all the time behind him or did he just told u he would do that? if i copy articles from wiki and present it in my style, does it make it original? u cannot even proof that his research wasnt just looking up the other vid and copy it

Awesome video! Really worth the wait! And i learned so much! I knew about the general history with everquest and WoW but seeing the entire history from the beginning was really interesting! Already looking forward to the next video! Great work! ❤
Many old MMO's as you showed in this, had harsh death penalties which I find the most interesting. Something you rarely see in MMO's these days. FFXIV experience is Eureka, death meaning you will lose EXP and possibly de-level (designed back in 2018). Runescape, a game where you had to run back to your body to grab you loot and the ability to kill/loot other players in the wild (although OSRS has made it more forgiving in that regards in the past couple of years). Chapter 5 I do agree though. World of Warcraft modernized and really made leveling the whole MMO experience standard. It slowly became a game where leveling was the main portion of the experience, and the end game existing, but not the whole journey. Although WoW may be criticized for having a bad expansion here and there, players will always still come back to it because it gave them that real first MMO experience. As you said yourself, why take that risk to compete against WoW and other successful MMOs when a company can make something else with lower investment and risk? **ages like milk**
Great writeup. I finally had a chance to listen to it all and was very cool learning about older games I've never heard of, especially Underlight (Lyra Studios). I look forward to future write ups and appreciate the work put into this.
