The rents are so high that the old time locals and seniors can't afford to live there anymore, its too bad because the locals are so much of Ventura's charm.

I am fourth generation Ventura native. Left in the mid 80’s, while in HS. All the families I knew have moved away or have passed on. I had a lot of good memories, but when I lived there it was relatively conservative. Not anymore. But I was surprised how many places did remain undeveloped and there is still a lot of orchards and farm land. Very nice weather.

  • @LoydChampion

We just left Ventura County. Rents and Real Estate is just too expensive to live. The employment compensation rates will not cover these costs. We were native Southern Californians, and it was sad to leave, but it was leave the area or live on the streets as a homeless person.
Nice presentation, don't know you, but there are a couple of real estate agents in Ventura County that are liars and cheats. This is also one of the reasons we had to leave. Great place to live if you can, but do your due diligence on who you have helping you; often they are helping themselves more than you.

Ventura is an ideal community for any active person plenty of things for seniors to do the Channel Islands National Park is right off the coast. The places to walk around the city are outstanding I rode my skateboard around in the seventies which now you cannot do due to the law good law by the way I was knocked on the ground by a skateboarder at the point (now called Cst) 20 years ago my hip is still bothering me. No offense to you skateboarders just be careful. I also realized I was older when the kid said Mr are you okay mr? There is a lot of homelessness around the city but if you're going to be homeless 300 days of sunshine is the place to be unless you can make it up north to Santa Barbara. Ventura is the place you can go water skiing surfing and snow skiing in the same day of course you have to drive to the snow. Please come visit stay if you can afford it if you can't please keep moving. Good video!

The Ventura City Council is ruining Ventura. They have been compromised by big developers and are pushing out all the charming locals who created the original Ventura vibe. Plus, the new architecture is Awful. I am usually way more optimistic but the current situation in Ventura is dire.

    • @angelmendez2211

Believe it or not these big development are the same that made iconic Ventura building that many love. We weren't always trying to be a small town we were growing rapidly until he 70s. Heck Saticoy at a time was a boom time next to Oxnard and Ventura. Now it just considered an unincorporated part of Ventura. Also we need these big developments but because of constant lawsuit and delays the benefit of most affordable housing is diminished or is delayed that we actually have a massive setback to our housing goals than benefit. Also there massive denialism that we are growing metro area ourselves. Oxnard, Camarillo, Santa Paula and Ventura are inching closer by the day. 126 and 101 might be due to have another hwy to pop up right beside them before their overrun. Also their has been some boost in transit in terms of bus options but we might want to look for other method while there still places to place them which may mean our own metro underground system similar to Los Angeles. Also we already surpassing aspect of Santa Barbara that people are coming here to Oxnard and Ventura for entertainments and jobs more and more that it too late to go back. Frankly the main problem I seeing is that many fallen into a illusion that Ventura was a laid back place when reality we were very innovated before thing like the coastal act was set by NIMBY groups to deter growth. Heck the crown plaza was made before that act was past, and that a landmark to downtown Ventura that is still used which most landmarks aren't used like they should be. There also huge disconnect to regulars people living in the city compare to more wealthy and business owners that mostly cause most of the problems. Many worker don't want to attend meeting because their tired or simply have to take care of their children. Most of our youth are already gearing up to leave because of lack of affordability. Frankly, younger people want more affordable housing and jobs because their not here for scenic views but because their family, and friends grew up here.
