Live in Ox but appreciate both- to me they are basically one big city. Collection, Main Street, C- Street, Silver strand, CI Harbor, Ventura Harbor, great food everywhere. It’s pretty great!

The more inland you go from Oxnard the hotter it gets. Onces you start going up the hills, it gets warmer. Oxnard tends to be cooler because its flat, whereas the other nearby towns have hills.
The area when explorers came here and brought the Spanish they called the area Bona Fortuna which meant Good Fortune because of the plentiful sea, the bountiful land, and the temperate climate. Its how San Buena Ventura came to be.

I gre up in Nyland Acres, across the strawberry fields from El Rio.
When she said "downtown Oxnard", all I could think was, 'oxnard has a downtown, now?' 😅😅
If youre in the area of Ventura or Oxnard, visit the La Janelle (the jedi built out if her wrecked hull.) But beware the black oil globs on the beach. Theyre a pain the try to clean up after....

Yes, the black oil globs are no fun. We have a bottle of Dawn next to our door for when they come up on shore. We did not know about La Janelle. Thank you for that recommendation! We will go check it out.

How about Ventura vs Camarillo? Or Camarillo vs Thousand Oaks

    • @livinginventuracounty1071
      @livinginventuracounty1071  Před rokem

We will do one of those soon:). We are currently writing one on Camarillo and will have it out soon. With so many residents in Ventura moving to Camarillo we know it is essential to make a comparison. Once we get to Thousand Oaks we will do one of those also. Thanks for the idea.

Even if it is a few years out speaking with people who are thinking of moving out gives us ideas for our next films. We have a client looking to move out in 4 months and we will be doing gated communities next for her and Camarillo for another client.

I chose Oxnard 2 weeks ago because it is closer to work than Ventura. If I was retired or worked from home and had to choose between the two, I might have picked Ventura, but after 2 weeks of exploring, I kind of feel like Camarillo was the best choice, the only con there would be a little further drive to the beach.
One thing that is enraging here (Oxnard) are the people with loud cars who like to make as much noise as possible. I say this as someone with a supercharged V8 650 hp engine in my truck that gets 10 miles a gallon, so don't take me as some Prius driver who hates muscle cars. I love the power of the V8 but I'm not an asshole, so I have a quiet exhaust. There is a time and place to let your engine roar and it's not in residential areas. I honestly feel like 1/5th of the city owns a Charger/Challenger with the loudest exhaust allowed by law. There is also some asshole with a bicycle and a boom box mounted on it, he will ride around blasting music max volume. Saturday it was at 5:45 am... fun... and since he is on a bike, by the time I could confront him if I wanted to, he is gone, but the damage is done, I'm awake. There is no way to prevent this unless you live in a gated community. Honestly, if I ever get the chance I might "accidently" run him over. Yesterday, I watched police drag a screaming girl away, I don't know why but they were holding her down and she was screaming at the top of her lungs, probably some druggie. I was born in New York City, so I am used to the bums and stuff but the noise is just next level.
Now the nice things I can say are: amazing weather, and lots of good places to eat. I had to move here for my job, this wasn't my top choice, but I try to just enjoy the weather and ignore the rest, I think I am going to have to invest in a comfortable pair of earplugs or buy a sensory deprivation chamber to sleep in though. The cost of living is horrible, as mentioned. As an example, Five Guys where I lived before was $18, here its $25 for the exact same meal. Gas, food, rent, insurance is all more expensive, my electric bill is the only area where I will save money.
Last FYI to anyone, if you are thinking of living in Oxnard/Ventura/Camarillo, working in LA and doing the commute, good luck. I drove through LA to get here (I drove pretty much 1/2 way across the USA) and there was traffic on the road at 10pm on a Monday night... no accident, just traffic because the number of cars. It was moving, but not as fast as I'd like it to. If it's like that at 10pm, I don't want to see rush hour.

We are so glad that you were able to make it out here and find some places you like to eat at. Yes, we were shocked also by the price of eating out. The most shocking was that some places charge extra for the first bowl of rice when you order chinese or mediterranen food.
We are going to make a video on Camarillo and would love your input. What did you like about this area or not like? We know quite a few people who work at Mugu Point live in Camarillo and really enjoy it. Our favorite place to get gelato is up there, Tifa Chocolate and Gelato. They have some nice small shops and restaurants in that shopping area as well. If you ever decide you want to buy a place in this area or in Ventura county we hope you will keep us in mind.

Its a totally safe place we have our own app for crime. Lol
And you cant find graffiti??? Are you just driving around in a circle inside a gated community?
There are two major gangs here El Rio and Colonia and they are generally migrant working families that moved here from two separate parts of Mexico to work.
Honestly that is the majority of the population of our entire county (and most are undocumented) And guess what? They do not get along, Im not being racist I grew up going to El Rio, RDV, and RM (I had almost zero white friends) In our high schools we were not allowed to wear any sports gear with any logo except for the schools.
Because the gangs would identify themselves by wearing the cowboys or raiders to show what gang they were in.
Also, fun fact you know what's bigger than the beaches here in Oxnard? Its what's known here as the "Safety Zone" look it up.
Its over 6.5 miles of designated gang zones where laws are different for the members living in those areas. Different curfews, what they can wear, even who some people are allowed to associate with.
Not to mention LA has been dropping off homeless people here by the van loads and our river bed by the beach catches fire multiple times a year due to the enormous homeless encampments they have been trying to remove for decades.
Oxnard has also been trying to change its name to Gold Coast for as long as I can remember in an attempt to clear its name.
With that being said come on down step in the tar and scrub it with dawn... (vegetable oil works best) just watch out for the needles in the sand. (also not kidding, i find them regularly in the sand on my morning walks)

I'm disappointed that you guys dicided to label these groups of kids that love to ride bicycles "GANGS". As if they were an organized group of criminals. The appropriate name would have been bicycle crews. There are a lot of great kids that just love to ride and socialize with friends. And of couse like in every group there are going to be some that don't know how to act. Please stop criminalizing our young .

The goal of our channel is to inform people what it is like to live in an area. This means the pros and the cons. As we stated we love living in Oxnard but just like in every city there are going to be some cons. We even discussed if we should put this information in our video but because it is such a hot topic being discussed by residents then we felt it was our job to talk about it.
I am sorry we disappointed you. We had many discussions trying to decide what to call the group of teens and preteens that are riding their bikes around Oxnard and Ventura. While we are so excited that kids love to ride their bikes around and are out of the house, off of their phones and socializing we had to take some other factors into consideration too. The items that we took into consideration were from our own interactions and others. While we were walking our dogs we saw some of this "crew" trying to break the sapling trees in the park. When I went up and asked them what they were doing some of them became aggressive in posture and words. We were told that they were going to follow us home so they knew where we lived and swore at us and proceeded to destroy property. We also took into account that others have had aggressive interactions with some of the group. Some residents are so nervous they are talking about not going out of their houses without pepper spray. Many people have stated that they try to drive down a road and the bicyclists will not move or they will rush at their car with their bikes. All the people that we spoke to are in agreement that they want children to be able to ride their bikes and get together in a group. That is not the problem. The problem is when a group crosses the line from getting together and enjoying themselves to making other people feel unsafe in their neighborhoods.
While I agree that it may be a smaller portion of them that are aggressive than the whole group it seems that the none aggressive people are not stopping the aggressors. Also, there is some organization or else they would not all be wearing the same colors and meeting up at the Collection or other spots that it says no bicyclists and taking over the street. it is one thing to have maybe a group of 4 or 5 kids hanging out and saying let's go for a ride to a place as opposed to 50-100.
It saddened us to feel like we needed to call this group a gang but we did not feel there was another appropriate word to use to describe actions of breaking the law and intimidation from a group of people. The police have also started taking these actions seriously. We deeply hope that the children who are just wanting to ride their bikes and enjoy the freedom this represents can either reign in the other children or make their own group that can truly be called a crew.
We recommend people watch this video for more information. facebook.com/OxnardPD/videos/1777122092656424/

The group of people participating in illegal activity is in fact a gang. They are organized through social media. They do street takeovers and harass drivers. It is a big problem in Oxnard and police can't do anything about it. Countless complains about them on local Nextdoor apps.

@@jgbloodworth5336 You see, the word "crew" implies "a group of persons involved in a particular kind of work". So trying to assign this term to the group of kids simply looking to annoy others by riding in large groups and harassing drivers is a lame attempt to sugarcoat the antisocial behavior of the large group of juveniles that have not found anything better to do.
