    Raising meat rabbits is a good way to start a homestead...we’ve been doing it for 9 years now👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻we started using pellets, but several years ago switched to fodder...we tried awhile back to go back to pellets, but the rabbits, wouldn’t have anything to do with it...they love the fodder...we’ve had may babies a long the way, and many heartaches, but that’s life when you’re raising any farm animals...great video, kids👍🏻👍🏻blessings 🥰❤️😇🙏🏻🙏🏻

  • @Jaynes-Path
    @Jaynes-Path Před 4 lety

    Another great one guys, and yes it's all a tongue twister when you have several different types of animals on your homestead. Your bloopers showed that, lol! When dead newborns are found there can be many reasons for it as you said. The goal is to learn from them. Sometimes the box is too small for your Doe and they get stepped on, or not enough bedding material or time for mom to arrange it. Moms usually only feed dusk to dawn & if a newborn doesn't let go it will be dragged out of the box when mom leaves, especially a nervous Doe. Without any hair mom can't pick them up to put them back in. Always check first in the morning to see if they can be warmed up and held next to mom to nurse. You could save a kit or 2 if your lucky.

    As far as the draft coming up into the nest box from the bottom, what about putting straw under the nest box in addition to all the straw you put in the box. It still can drain, it is not getting wet inside the box, and it will insulate the underside of the box! I never had a rabbit, never bred rabbits, just an outsiders observation! Beautiful rabbits! Have a blessed day!

    All very good information!! Thank you! I'm pretty sure I'm gonna want to get my rabbits from y'all if I do make the decision to raise them. I can see how very well cared for they are. Great job!

    I remember that my dad use to call the female bunny pulling her fur as "tufting"" the nest for the kid. I'm really learning more from use two enough to seriously consider to start raising a few rabbits where I live to sell as either meat or as pets. First I have to save up to get all the items needed to build a few cages for them. Good idea about logging on each cage as to who, what, where more so to speak.
    I LOVE this video and both of you. Take care and be safe. Blessings to both of you from me. 🙏

    I have never heard the term kindling used with rabbits before. When I read your title L thought, what? My Uncle just said, ready to kit. 😂😂

      Virginia Reid yep, “kindling” is a term used for the process of rabbit birthing! 😄 Sorry Yo confuse everyone. It was kinda clickbait, but not on purpose.
