  • Review of the K&F Concept 9 Stop Variable ND 2-400 Filter, multi-coated, and ultra slim model released in March 2020. I think this is an excellent choice for beginners or those on a budget looking to film outdoors on a sunny day or to capture longer exposures such as smooth waterfalls!
    If you already have this filter, please leave a comment regarding your experience with it and if you got the same results I did.
    I'm not an Amazon affiliate but wanted to provide the link to the version I purchased: www.amazon.com/dp/B085Y2MD2K/...

    I spent £90 on Tiffen Variable ND and get a blue colour cast, which is easily corrected in post, but the Tiffen was very costly. I just purchased a K&F Concept ND Filter. Thank you for the video. Subscribed

    just shot a outdoors day event (lowrider picnic) using A BLACK PRO MIST FILTER stacked with a ND filter. These really improve the visuals big time. I shoot with a D3200 Nikon Crop Senor DSLR and 35mm kit lens.

    Any insight onto the difference between the "Blue-Coating", "Green-Coating", and "No-Coating" variations of the same (size/make) filters?

    • @PixeledMoment
      @PixeledMoment  Před 3 lety

      I'd recommend checking the product descriptions on the K&F website, but as far as I'm aware the blue multi-coating is just the updated technology of the green coating and supposed to repel water better in addition to water/dust resistance.

    I just bought this one. There is one thing though - i ordered the blue one since that is the new ndfiltrr but now i need postprocess all my photos to get rid of the blue colorcast?

    • @PixeledMoment
      @PixeledMoment  Před 3 lety +1

      Got the blue one myself as well, but you can see in the video it gave me a bit of a green colorcast. If it's really intense and bothersome I'd recommend contacting K&F, though given the budget price I personally don't mind too much fixing the color cast in post-processing. Nothing wrong with checking out other brands though if you have a bigger budget for your work.

      @@PixeledMoment I already cancelled my order and went for the neutral coated variable filter and it is perfect for shooting in bright light. So I am satisfied.

    Can i stack it with the cpl without getting vignette?

    • @PixeledMoment
      @PixeledMoment  Před 3 lety

      My guess (and I could be wrong) is it's possible if using a crop sensor or zoom lens but I don't have a double-threaded cpl filter to experiment with so I can't say for certain. I think it's worth looking into the 2-in-1 ND+CPL filters if it's easier on the budget than buying them separately.

      @@PixeledMoment is it good for long exposure photography of lake during day time??

    • @PixeledMoment
      @PixeledMoment  Před 3 lety +1

      Do you mean if there's a waterfall by the lake? If so, then yeah it'll help give the look a smoother flow at a slower shutter speed. If you're wondering about a lake that's pretty still and not much flowing water then I'd probably look at a circular polarizing filter to help reduce the glare reflecting from the water depending on the time of day. As far as I'm aware, more filters are coming out as a CPL and ND combo but most likely costing the same or more then buying them separately, and it looks like K&F has one but I have no idea as to the quality.

    I used a test image for comparison of your K&F ND Ultra Slim Variable filter being on the lens and off the lens. First test was without your filter to make sure I was getting a sharp image also tried it with multiple lenses to make sure I did not have a problem with getting a sharp image with any of the lenses. All the images with the Two lenses I used were perfectly sharp without your filter. I then use your filter on the lenses using the same settings and got terrible results. The image was completely unusable blurry after installing the filter. Also the color shift was not acceptable. The lenses I used were of high quality Canon L glass series lenses. 28 to 300 mm and a 100 to 400 mm. Both lenses gave me the same results as far as I'm concerned, the filter is unacceptable and I would not recommend purchasing if you want any kind of quality sharpness to your images.

    • @PixeledMoment
      @PixeledMoment  Před 3 lety +2

      Sorry to read you didn't have any success with it. Have you contacted K&F about the issue, and do you have the images? I'd be curious to see since I don't have a 28-300 or a 100-400 to experiment with.

      Wow, funny how I just read this exact same comment on another review of this ND filter - word for word.. Obviously a copy and paste job, probably from the competition, and IMHO, all BS.. I own 2 of these filters for 2 different lenses, and both work wonderfully.
