    I own two _Singh-Ray Vari ND_ filters, a 77 and an 82mm. They were super expensive and I've never been happy with them. I don't like the cross-x effect and the color shifting. They remained mostly unused in their faux leather pouch. I think the traditional single strength NDs are better and far less expensive.

      You shouldn't get such a small size for filters, especially for variable ND because the bigger the size the less amount of side effects you get like vignetting. It is highly recommended to get 82mm size filters and use step up rings on your lenses. This way the lens only uses the center portion of the filter (the best part).

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  Před 3 lety

      If you want to keep your aperture wide open, your shutter speed unchanged and your ISO is at its lowest setting then the only other option is to further reduce how much light is entering your lens
      This can either be done by reducing the amount of like around or by using a stronger ND filter
      ND400 is already 8 stops less light but if that's not enough then maybe look at getting a 10 stop fixed strength filter

  • @dronesandphotography9686

    I used a test image for comparison of your filter being on the lens and off the lens. First test was without your filter to make sure I was getting a sharp image also tried it with multiple lenses to make sure I did not have a problem with getting a sharp image with any of the lenses. All the images with the Two lenses I used were perfectly sharp without your filter. I then use your filter on the lenses using the same settings and got terrible results. The image was completely unusable blurry after installing the filter. Also the color shift was not acceptable. The lenses I used were of high quality Canon L glass series lenses.

    • @nightsbeatswitchgood
      @nightsbeatswitchgood Před 5 lety

      67! Then you can buy a cheap set of step-up rings to adapt it onto the rest of your lenses. Then you don’t have to buy multiple filters, because you can’t put a smaller filter on a bigger size lens, obviously. For example a 58mm filter on a 67mm lens diameter lens. Wouldn’t work. The filter is too small. But, if the filter’s too big then that’s a quick fix (the step-up/step-down filters)

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  Před 4 lety

      Depends how many stops you need, the weaker filters are generally favoured for video as you're more restricted with how fast a shutter you can use to control exposure
      The heavier stops are favoured more for photography for long exposures but the ranges are a bit like zoom lenses, the greater you make the range then generally the greater the impact on image quality

      @DaveMcKeegan  Před 3 lety

      The mm refers to what size the lens the filter will screw on to so ideally you'll want a filter the same size as the front diameter of your lens
      If your lenses have different sized fronts then it's normally wise to buy filters at the size of the widest front lens that you're likely to use the filter on and then use step up rings to put the filter on your smaller lenses

    is 32 is good enough in shooting videos?

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  Před 3 lety

      Sort of depends on the environment but ND32 is equal to 5 stops reduction which is the difference between having to shoot at f16 Vs being able to shoot at f2.8
      So it might not allow you to shoot at very fast apertures when in environments with strong light but it will definitely help a lot

    • @DaveMcKeegan
      @DaveMcKeegan  Před 3 lety

      Almost
      ND4 - 2 stops
      ND8 - 3 stops
      ND16 - 4 stops
      ND32 - 5 stops
      Etc etc

      Yes, PAL counties run at 25fps rather than the 30fps of NTSC
