  • Watch the new sermon from Pastor James White at Apologia Church. We are in our series on the Doctrines of Grace/the Five Points of Calvinism. This sermon is on Perseverance of the Saints from the acrostic TULIP. Can a person who is truly saved lose their salvation? What does the Bible teach, consistently, about God's promises to protect and preserve His elect people in Jesus Christ? Watch as Dr. White explains. We pray that you are encouraged and challenged by this series.

James white is a heretic. He doesn't know what the gospel of salvation is (1 Corinthians 15: 1-4), doesn't understand the meaning of repent (to change one's mind). Denies free grace (Ephesians 2: 8-9 tells us otherwise), and denies OSAS yet Ephesians 1:13, Ephesians 4:30, and John 10: 28-30 tells us otherwise.

@@Brii.Z can you please explain repentance and faith? What does it mean to repent and believe? You already mentioned that to repent means to change one’s mind. Can you explain what that means?
Is there a need to produce fruits of a Christian? Should Christians be growing or at least have a desire and strive to grow in our ability to follow Jesus in our actions?

Whereas for most people, limited (or particular) atonement is the biggest obstacle to Calvinism, for me, it was this doctrine of perseverance of the saints. I used to believe very strongly that we could lose our salvation, and I had a hard time overcoming that when I was in the process of converting to Calvinism.

@@platinum1781 That passage isnt about salvation specifically. Paul is saying that we have to make sure that we cannot simply talk/teach about certain things and not live like that ourselves. For example imagine someone talking about how sex before marriage is bad etc and Christians shouldnt do that, but secretly he does it himself.
He makes it specifically important for himself here since he is going around and teaching people these truths. That he has to keep himself in check that he actually does follow all these things that he preaches lest he be disqualified (not to lose salvation but as a teacher of truth) as it is said there. We do not become completely sinless after salvation. The salvific process is still there with the Holy Spirit in us. We do battle sinful tendencies etc. But if we teach on certain things like Paul did we have to make sure we live it out ourselves as well.

For some people, the main objection is utter depravity. They have a belief that there is some good in themselves and everyone, like Luke believed for Vader, that this small amount of remnant goodness could overcome the weight of sin and utter lostness of the condition of man as described in various texts. John MacArthur had a good observation in the sermon The Most Hated Doctrine. Jesus, speaking to the Jews, said (paraphrasing) "I have told you the truth, and you hate me for telling you the truth. You do not believe me because you are not of my sheep." In other places the Lord says to the Jews, "you are of the devil, and his deeds will you do." MacArthur made the observation, speaking to his congregation, what forceful conversion message do you have that can overcome the utter depravity of man that the Lord himself did not have? If he could not break through, why do you you think you can do it? Only God can break through by regeneration of the lost one and bringing him in by the gift of a new heart, one that desires God instead of sin. Only then will that person be open and eager to please Him, his first act of faith being placing his faith in Christ. Before that monergistic work by God, man is bound as a slave to sin and the works of sin he does. As Genesis 6:5 says," Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." But free-will Pelagians and semi-pelagians want to find wiggle room to say, "ah, but there's still good in you, you just have to be smart or good or humble enough to do X so God will hear you."

So somewhere around 16 minutes he makes the analogy that sheep cannot choose which flock they belong to. That is to say the Pharisees can’t be His sheep because His sheep know His voice. Then he mentions some people saying the Pharisees COULD be his sheep. They just aren’t YET. Dr. White says this is false. They can’t be saved because they don’t hear His voice. Am I correct in my understanding of Dr. White here?
But what about people like me? I went 35 years without hearing His voice. But I was saved and now I do hear His voice. How am I different than the Pharisees?
Legit question here. I’m trying to understand, not debate. Please be kind.

I therefore so run , not as uncertainly ; so fight I , not as one that beateth the air : But I keep under my body , and bring it into subjection : LEST THAT BY ANY MEANS , WHEN i HAVE PREACHED TO OTHERS , i MYSELF SHOULD BE A CASTAWAY " . This came from the apostle Paul , who we believe was a true christian , under the blood of Jesus Christ ; if Paul can say this , why would you say that a true christian cannot lose his salvation ? This is what te Messiah said himself about being saved : Matthew 24:13 , " But he that shall endure unto the end , the same shall be saved " . Jesus said that he would lose none of them , but you can lose your salvation by not enduring until the end ( John 15:1-2 , " I AM the true vine , and my Father is the husbandman . Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away : and every branch that beareth fruit , he purgeth it , that it may bring forth more fruit " ) . This is coming from the Messiah himself ; to be a branch in him , you are now under his blood , and redeemed from your past sins . The Father is the HE , that taketh you away , if you do not beareth fruit . Please all of read John 15 ; this does not say once you come under the blood of Christ you all always saved . Shalom !

We're not worshipping God by fear at that point, but you're demanding that He behave by acknowledging standards. .. That's not the grace gospel. .. It's Satanic/ Greek self worship, where the man is the mover and God is the actor ; and the actor is bound in his response to the mover... This is blasphemy. .. In the example of Galatians, it was the sign of physical circumcision. But Paul's point is that one cannot walk down the path of grace AND the path of works. Jesus kept those works on our behalf through His perfect life. Only by resting in His sacrifice will we be doing the work of God. As it is written, should anyone sin, we have an advocate in Jesus. We will NEVER fully stop sinning until we are completely sanctified after physical death. What most people forget is , there was another sin sacrifice of atonement of works that Jesus replaced , the circumcision of flesh for sin ; The law of animal sacrifice and oblations ; which came through the mediator Moses , under the priesthood of Leviticus .
This is the law of works that Paul was talking about in Ephesians 2:9 ; but the works of God is in Ephesians 2:10 and 2 Timothy 3:17 ; that is of faith , keeping the Father's laws .
Why do you think that Christ answered the man's question of : " What good things must I do to have eternal life ? Jesus stated : " Keep the commandments .
You cannot go under the blood of Jesus Christ until you start keeping the Father's commandment ; the Father dwell in light ( righteousness ) , not darkness ( sin ) .

6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Its been 30 yrs and this entire time I've felt pulled to go to church or learn of god but only recently have I felt the pain I've caused Jesus. It very difficult to know who to trust or where to go for knowledge. But my question is would I need to be baptized again ?

You would be baptized as a public showing that you are saved by the blood of Christ by faith and that your life is now pointed to following him (the Christ and God of the bible). so you were following whatever teaching in the jehovahs witness but now have turned to Christ and the true gospel. A physical baptism wont save you, if your faith is in Jesus (who scripture says is God) and his death on the cross and his Resurrection you are already saved. This of course including repenting (turning away from sin and turning to God) and then calling upon his name for salvation. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:13. There are many things we need to be taught from the bible (not jehovahs witness everything they teach is opposite of Christ). But yeah i would suggest being baptized again but to worship Christ and publicly show others you are following him

How can you know if you are a 'true Christian' is the first question. Second would be, what acts disqualify you from being a 'true Christian'. The classic answer being apostasy but I recall Jeff Durbin telling a woman that she didn't know God even though she claimed she did because she most likely had an abortion. So if very serious sin like abortion, murder, apostasy disqualifies you from being a Christian then that is essentially the same thing as losing your salvation. Then I would say how can you ever now that these things won't happen in your life for whatever reason. Maybe someone does something really bad to your family and you kill them later because of it and commit murder. Ultimately how can you ever know that you won't do these things in the future and subsequently not be a 'true Christian'. Also if you were a Christian and did one of these things in the past but then repented does that just mean you were a 'true Christian' then you were a 'fake Christian' or nonbeliever and then you were a 'true Christian' again after you repented. It doesn't make any sense and its not even close to being taught in Scripture or any version of orthodox historical Christianity. Please read the Church Fathers, the Councils, and the Scriptures and think critically about your beliefs and where they originated from.

Ofcourse the Title betrays this entire line of reasoning because it is a logical fallacy to assume absolute knowledge of another person as a "TRUE CHRISTIAN" or has "TRUE FAITH" You see, it begins right there &, is always overlooked.
Remember, the wheat & the tares grow up together &, the tares can just as well be within the walls of the Church.
Since the names are written in "The Book of Life" written before the creation, it is logical to me that, from an absolute perspective, one cannot lose their salvation.

@@gregcowan7 dear brother, thank you for the response and insight.
“The Lord’s Supper is a memorial not a sacrifice” - I could not agree more. It’s a memorial (“Do this in remembrance of me”) and prophetic (“we do show His death til He come”) That’s why I said it was a memorial. The memorial portion will be forever throughout all eternity, but the prophetic aspect will obviously end at His coming. I do not believe and the scriptures do not teach that the Lord’s Supper is an unbloodied sacrifice. I was saying those sacrifices that are spoken of in those texts will be memorial in nature. In the OT they pointed forward to Christ. At that point, they will point backward to Christ’s death.
“Those verses are not talking about a third temple. It is talking about the second temple, or an “ideal” temple” - The second temple was built after the captivity. This is not what The Lord through Ezekiel was referring to. Our understanding of this text will differ and that is ok. I am not intending to argue or cause division among brethren. I do not break fellowship over differences in something like this. With that understanding, my only struggle with your understanding of the Old Testament texts is that it is clearly, in context, describing earthly things. A physical temple, actual sacrifices, etc. and that is how it’s original hearers would have understood it. I struggle with reading our understanding of things back into Old Testament texts in which it would have made no sense to the original hearers. Again, we can disagree and that’s ok.
“Similar to the symbolic holy city in Rev.” again we can agree to disagree. I read that text literally and yes I understand Revelation has much symbology in it. Much if not most of its symbology’s interpretation is given in the text itself.
“Israel is saved through Christ.” Amen and amen. Did I somehow contradict that? If so, that was not my intent. Christ is THE ONLY way. Israel is not saved one way and Gentiles another. No, He has made of both 1. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, in Christ. Christ is the only savior. Nobody comes to the Father but by Him.
“Christ is reigning on earth now.” - Again, we can agree to disagree. The scriptures teach, without a doubt, Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth. Absolutely. There is no other power than what He has. He is Lord of lords and King of kings. God does as He wills in the armies of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. He is in the heavens and has done whatever He has pleased. With these, I agree. With the statement “Christ is reigning on earth now” I disagree because I don’t see Him. Christ’s visible earthly reign, again I grant Christian liberty in this, will be be visible. I believe He reigns now, invisibly. The church’s job isn’t to reign the world so He can’t reign the world through the church, His body. I would say “He’s reigning over earth in heaven, for now.”
Hope you have a blessed Lord’s day, dear brother.

Jesus said, "Whoever believes in Me..." Stop right there! Please pray! Work out your salvation with fear and trembling. What Christ is about say, though it sounds so trivial to many, holds your destiny: heaven or hell, God's favor or His wrath, being a genuine Christian or a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Referring to the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, "Whoever believes in Me shall have rivers of living water bubbling up inside him (John 17.3)." Are you filled with the Holy Spirit, seated in the heavenlies with Christ, having rivers of living water? If not, then you are not saved! Whoever believes in Christ shall have those rivers of living water. If you are not sure, you can pray. Jesus said, "My Father shall give the Holy Spirit to whoever ask of Him." Why does Christ give multiple commands for men to believe when it's only God gifting men with faith? Christ should only say "those who receives faith from God, you will follow Me, you will believe in Me because you don't have a choice but to be faithful. "

There are passages that speak of eternal security but it’s always in reference to being in Him. The warnings are about not continuing in Him.
I know it’s just how it’s worded but it adds clarification for those who disagree with you.

Repentance the point when we turn from our sin to Christ. We do not arrive at that point until the Holy Spirit has first CONVICTED us that we are sinners. In conviction the Holy Spirit, in concert with the word, act on our hearts to persuade us that we are evil and need a Savior.
      …7 But I tell you the truth, it is for your benefit that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 And when He comes, He will CONVICT THE WORLD in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 in regard to SIN, because they DO NOT BELIEVE IN ME;
      (John 16:7-9)
The Holy Spirit convicts the world (of fallen humanity) mainly about the fact that they DO NOT BELIEVE. He concentrates initially on the sin of UNBELIEF since faith is our only hope of escaping judgment. After all He wants more than reformed sinners. He wants new creations. Of course, the Spirit also convicts believers of sin.
Conviction is about PERSUASION, that is, the Holy Spirit using the word offers a "reasoned defense" of the faith to the MIND while appealing to the CONSCIENCE with EVIDENCE of our guilt. These things are shown in the definition of the world "convict."The word convict is a translation of the Greek word
      elégxō (STRONGS NT 1651: ἐλέγχω)
which - properly, means: to convince with solid, compelling evidence, especially to expose (PROVE WRONG, connect).
Thayer's Greek Lexicon gives the following definitions:
      1. to convict, refute, confute, generally with a SUGGESTION OF THE SHAME of the person convicted
      2. by conviction to bring to light, to EXPOSE
Thus conviction is about proving to us we are WRONG
REPENTANCE is when the person finally stops resisting the Spirit and through godly sorrow turns away from his former life
THAYER'S GREEK LEXICON defines repentance (STRONGS NT 3341: μετάνοια) as:
a change of mind: as it appears in one who repents of a PURPOSE HE HAS FORMED, or of SOMETHING HE HAS DONE, Hebrews 12:17 on which see εὑρίσκω, 3 ((Thucydides 3, 36, 3); Polybius 4, 66, 7; Plutarch, Peric c. 10; mor., p. 26 a.; τῆς ἀδελφοκτονιας μετάνοια, Josephus, Antiquities 13, 11, 3); especially the CHANGE OF MIND of those who have begun to ABHOR THEIR ERRORS and MISDEEDS, and have DETERMINEDto enter upon a BETTER COURSE OF LIFE, so that it embraces both a RECOGNITION OF SIN and SORROW FOR IT and hearty AMENDMENTS, the tokens and effects of which are good deeds (Lactantius, 6, 24, 6 would have it rendered in Latin byresipiscentia) (A. V. repentance): Matthew 3:8, 11; Luke 3:8, (16 Lachmann); Luke 15:7; Luke 24:47; Acts 26:20
Merely using the bare etymology of the word metanoia ("change of mind") to define the word does not capture the full sense of what it means any more than an etymology of an English word captures the full meaning of it. What matters is not the origins of a word but what the word has come to mean.

Yes, the scriptures are perfectly clear on these matters. However, since they does not comport with James White's belief system he rejects it immediately. Jesus COULD NOT have meant what He said! Did He not know that no conditions are attached to salvation? I imagine though that, had these things taught by John Calvin or Martin Luther White probably would have believed the text as written. What does that tell us about White source of truth?
      As Jesus said:
3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?
This is not he only time such a thing is mentioned in the NT. The Apostle John says the same thing.
15 Everyone who hates his BROTHER is a murderer, and you know that eternal life does not reside in a murderer.
      (1 John 3:14-15)
The word BROTHER shows that the Apostle was talking about those who were of the faith, not about worldly people who are already judged. John equates the sin of hate with that of murder. He then goes on to state a general proposition ALREADY KNOWN to believers - that
"ETERNAL LIFE does not reside in a murderer"
So it is not just that an unrepentant hater (or murderer) is divested of HEAVENLY REWARDS. Rather, any believer in whom hate has become endemic no longer possesses ETERNAL LIFE.

    • @JimiSurvivor
      @JimiSurvivor Před 2 lety

      @Northern Wolf
John spoke of hating BROTHERS specifically because the letter was written to brother's in Christ. In the scripture I cited:
15 Everyone who HATES his brother is a murderer, and you know that eternal life does not reside in a murderer.
      (1 John 3:15)
The word HATE is a present tense participle which denotes an action that is continual and unremitting. It is more than just anger. I have known believers who have carried abiding hate for years towards a brother. Still they are unrepentant. As long as they remains in that state of mind then they are a murderer in whom eternal life cannot abide. The remedy is to repent and confess the sins so we can be forgiven and cleansed (1 John 1:7-9)
We are not merely told to forgive brothers in Christ but to forgive people in the world Jesus said they are the enemies of God as well as His children:
18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
      (John 15:18-19)
Still Jesus wants to redeem them and we should want the same thing.
Also, Jesus does not want us objectifying anyone whether they are believers or not, married or not.

Maybe my knowledge is not so profound, but can you find a reference for the true Christians you are saying? If they are true, that means only that there are false. Second, what you are saying that the elect will not lose their salvation is contrary to what Matthew 24:24; 1 Corinthians 6:9; Galatians 6:7. Believers in Christ can still fall from salvation (see Romans 8:1,13; 11:22 & Hebrews 10:26-27). The Lord said that being a believer, you walk worthy of your calling, and you must bear the fruits of your faith in him (Ephesians 4:1). Having said that, if you cannot bear the fruits of your faith then you will be cut off from the relationship of God (John 15:2,6).

      David Chinna
You can only remain to have the hope of salvation as long you are abiding and remain in the faith with the Savior (see John 15:4). Peter was restored to the fellowship because he repented, and didn't live to that denial. Everyone who sins against God us is likewise given, by the grace of God the chance to get right with God through repentance (Luke 15:17). Had King David chose not to repent of his sins, he would have totally lost the joy of his salvation and was never restored to the fellowship (Psalms 51:10-12). Repentance is essential to keep our fellowship and relationship with God (1 John 1:9), and which Calvinism doesn't believe to be true. Calvinism, the source of OSAS teaching doesn't believe in repentance, because for them: repentance means work.
Predestination is not predetermination. It is that God has laid out a good path for mankind to walk in (Psalms 1:1-2), and so for them to be saved. With this path that God had chosen for men, he gives men the freedom to walk into it. That's predestination. God never forced anyone into heaven against his will. God has given men the freedom of will to choose him before they became believers; and that free will was never taken from them after they became his children. People can decide to follow and obey God or not based on their own freedom of will; hence Calvinism is only giving men the false assurance of security.

You ought to read Ezekiel 33:13 which teaches that those declared RIGHTEOUS / JUST will have that verdict reversed again IF they return to a life of willful sin. And it will be as though they were NEVER JUSTIFIED.
    When I shall say to
    THE RIGHTEOUS, that:
    'HE SHALL SURELY LIVE',
IF he trust to his own
    righteousness, and COMMIT
    INIQUITY, all his righteousnesses
    SHALL NOT BE REMEMBERED;
    But
FOR HIS INIQUITY that he hath
    committed,
    HE SHALL DIE
    (Ezekiel 13:33)
And Paul reiterates this same WARNING in his allusuon to the warning of Ezekiel 33:13 in his Apostolic warning to Believers in Romans 8:13
For IF you live after the flesh,
    YOU SHALL DIE:
But if you through the Spirit do
mortify the deeds of the body,
    YOU SHALL LIVE.
In every Calvinistic discussion of their self styled "golden chain" in Romans 8, it is noteworthy that they always conveniently leave out the qualifying warning of Romans 8:13.
[And make no mistake, Scripture uses conditional particles such as "IF", "IF ... THEN" (Romans 8:13, John 8:31, Hevrews 3:14) and other qualifying statements such as John 5:24 whete the present tense substantives "The hearing ones" and "believing ones" are the ones which "are having" eternal life. The converse is also true, those that turn back from hearing and following Christ lose the Holy Spirit and eternal life (1 Samuel 15:11, 22, 1 Samuel 16:14) ]
And Both Romans 8:1 (in the vast majority of Greek texts as represented in the KJV) and Romans 8:13 are qualifying statements.
The promises to the elect are only relevant inasmuch as the believer walks not after the flesh but rather through the spirit mortified the flesh.
To those who return to their old sins after having been once enlightened and made partakers of Christ and the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 3:14; 6:4) pertains the following warnings:
I will hear what God the LORD will
speak: for he will speak peace
unto HIS PEOPLE, and to HIS
    SAINTS.
But let THEM not turn again to
    folly. (Psalm 85:8)
But God shall wound the head of
HIS ENEMIES, and the hairy scalp
of SUCH an one as GOES ON
    STILL IN HIS TRESPASSES.
    (Psalm 68:21)
So we see that when God's Saints, His People return again to their former sins and to their former folly, God becomes their ENEMY.
Now the Just shall live by Faith,
    But IF ANYONE draw back
my soul shall have NO PLEASURE
    in him. (Hebrews 10:38)
    And:
    All his righteousnesses shall
    NOT BE REMEMBERED'
    (Ezekiel 33:13)
In the verses prior, the author to the Hebrews (10:30) quotes from Deuteronomy 32:35, the famous passage from which Jonathan Edwards preached
    To me belongs VENGEANCE,
    and RECOMPENSE.
THEIR FOOT SHALL SLIDE IN DUE
    TIME.
For THE DAY of THEIR CALAMITY
IS AT HAND, and the things that
    SHALL COME upon them MAKE
    HASTE.
The author to the Hebrews knows all this and issues a severe WARNING here by alluding to this passage warning of the IMMINENT WRATH of God upon all those who return to a life after the flesh.
For we know him that hath said:
    'VENGEANCE belongeth unto me,
    I will RECOMPENSE',
    Saith the Lord.
    And again:
'The Lord shall judge his people.'
It is A FEARFUL THING TO FALL
INTO THE HANDS OF THE LIVING
    GOD.
    Hebrews 10:30-31
So to draw back from FAITH is to draw back to PERDITION (Hebrews 10:38, 39). It is for a brother in Christ to DEPART from God in an evil heart of unbelief (Hebrews 3:1, 12)
So we see that the elect cabbot be lost. And that the promises made to the elect in Romans 8:14-39 ARE QUALIFIED by the warnings in Romans 8:1 (majority text) abd especially by the qualifying warning in Romans 8:13.
What does all this mean therefore?
    It means that:
    MANY are CALLED ....
    BUT FEW are CHOSEN
    (Matthew 22:14)
Scripture is abundantly clear that where the Word is preached and understood, men BELIEVE and are SAVED. And for this very reason the devil catches away the Word from their hearts in order to prevent the efficacious work of the Gospel in the hearts of men (Luke 8:12), for the Gosoel itself is the POWER of GOD unto SALVATION (Romans 1:16)
Similarly, This Gospel, which itsekf is the power of God unto Salvation, is believed for a time by many.
The Lord himself teaches us this, using the imperfective present tense:
They on the rock are they, which,
    when they hear, RECEIVE THE
    WORD WITH JOY.
    And these have no root,
    which for a WHILE
    ARE BELIEVING,
    and in time of temptation
    FALL AWAY.
    (Luke 8:13)
Thus their Faith is described as real by the Lord and that it starts at point A and continues to point B
    Thus: A ---------------> B
And it is worthy of Note, that the HOLY BROTHERS which are addressed in Hebrews 3:1, 12 are warned using the very same root verb used in Luke 8:13
Take heed, brethren, lest there be
in any of you an evil heart of
    unbelief, in DEPARTING from the
    living God.
    "DEPARTING" and "FALLING AWAY"
in both Luke 8:13 and Hebrews 3:12 are basec on the same verb. It is possible for a truly believing Christian to fall away.
All of this points to the historic Augustinian and Apostolic Doctrine of
    THE PERSEVERANCE
    OF THE ELECT
The Calvinistic doctrine of the "Perseverance of the Saints" is a red herring. A sleight of hand.
Scripture teaches that of those eho come to faith purely througg the power of the Gospel, only the elect Persevere unto the end. And only the elect are truly Christ's true sheep.
Consider Saul, was nit he born of the Spirit of God when God made him into a new man and gave him both The Holy Spirit and Another Heart? (1 Samuel 10: 6, 9, 10)
Yet when Saul turned back from following the Lord, and he grieved the Spirit, The Lord took away the Holy Spirit from him (1 Samuel 16:14; Psalm 51:11, Ephesians 4:30; Hebrews 3:17)
So we see that some do indeed receive God's converting Word with joy and are truly believing for a time yet later do not persevere unto the end but fall away.
    Now all these things happened
    unto them for EXAMPLES.
    And THEY ARE WRITTEN FOR
    OUR ADMONITION,
upon whom the ends of the world
    are come.
    (1 Corinthians 10:11)
And herein is a very strange thing. In Luke 8:13,
The Lord Himself says thatjaving received the Word with Joy, they indeed BELIEVE. And not merely that they believe , but that they re believing for a time! (And the use of the present ONGOING tense confirms this).
But calvinists say of these wjo fall away that they never truly believed, as though they knew better than the Lord! And thet tell us to believe them and to disregard the ckear teaching of the Lord.
    But to that we warn:
'Cursed be the man that trusteth
in man, and maketh flesh his arm'
    (Jeremiah 17:5)
What effrontery the calvinist does to the Lord and his Word!
    So be warned:
    'When he speaketh fair,
    BELIEVE HIM NOT.
    For there are seven abominations
    in his heart.'
    (Proverbs 26:25)

A Christian (Saint) is a person who has fully trusted in Jesus Christ as the only Savior and therefore possesses the Holy Spirit (John 3:16; Acts 16:31; Ephesians 2:8-9).
So, with this definition in mind, can a Christian lose salvation? It’s a crucially important question. Perhaps the best way to answer it is to examine what the Bible says occurs at salvation and to study what losing salvation would entail:
A Christian is a new creation. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV). A Christian is not simply an “improved” version of a person; a Christian is an entirely new creature. He is “in Christ.” For a Christian to lose salvation, the new creation would have to be destroyed.
A Christian is redeemed. “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect” (1 Peter 1:18-19). The word redeemed refers to a purchase being made, a price being paid. We were purchased at the cost of Christ’s death. For a Christian to lose salvation, God Himself would have to revoke His purchase of the individual for whom He paid with the precious blood of Christ.
A Christian is justified. “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). To justify is to declare righteous. All those who receive Jesus as Savior are “declared righteous” by God. For a Christian to lose salvation, God would have to go back on His Word and “un-declare” what He had previously declared. Those absolved of guilt would have to be tried again and found guilty. God would have to reverse the sentence handed down from the divine bench.
A Christian is promised eternal life. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Eternal life is the promise of spending forever in heaven with God. God promises that if you believe, you will have eternal life. For a Christian to lose salvation, eternal life would have to be redefined. The Christian is promised to live forever. Does eternal not mean “eternal”?
A Christian is marked by God and sealed by the Spirit. “You also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession-to the praise of his glory” (Ephesians 1:13-14). At the moment of faith, the new Christian is marked and sealed with the Spirit, who was promised to act as a deposit to guarantee the heavenly inheritance. The end result is that God’s glory is praised. For a Christian to lose salvation, God would have to erase the mark, withdraw the Spirit, cancel the deposit, break His promise, revoke the guarantee, keep the inheritance, forego the praise, and lessen His glory.
A Christian is guaranteed glorification. “Those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified” (Romans 8:30). According to Romans 5:1, justification is ours at the moment of faith. According to Romans 8:30, glorification comes with justification. All those whom God justifies are promised to be glorified. This promise will be fulfilled when Christians receive their perfect resurrection bodies in heaven. If a Christian can lose salvation, then Romans 8:30 is in error, because God could not guarantee glorification for all those whom He predestines, calls, and justifies.
A Christian cannot lose salvation. Most, if not all, of what the Bible says happens to us when we receive Christ would be invalidated if salvation could be lost. Salvation is the gift of God, and God’s gifts are “irrevocable” (Romans 11:29). A Christian cannot be un-newly created. The redeemed cannot be unpurchased. Eternal life cannot be temporary. God cannot renege on His Word. Scripture says that God cannot lie (Titus 1:2).
Two common objections to the belief that a Christian cannot lose salvation concern these experiential issues: 1) What about Christians who live in a sinful, unrepentant lifestyle? 2) What about Christians who reject the faith and deny Christ? The problem with these objections is the assumption that everyone who calls himself a “Christian” has actually been born again. The Bible declares that a true Christian will not live a state of continual, unrepentant sin (1 John 3:6). The Bible also says that anyone who departs the faith is demonstrating that he was never truly a Christian (1 John 2:19). He may have been religious, he may have put on a good show, but he was never born again by the power of God. “By their fruit you will recognize them” (Matthew 7:16). The redeemed of God belong “to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God” (Romans 7:4).
Nothing can separate a child of God from the Father’s love (Romans 8:38-39). Nothing can remove a Christian from God’s hand (John 10:28-29). God guarantees eternal life and maintains the salvation He has given us. The Good Shepherd searches for the lost sheep, and, “when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home” (Luke 15:5-6). The lamb is found, and the Shepherd gladly bears the burden; our Lord takes full responsibility for bringing the lost one safely home.
Jude 1:24-25 further emphasizes the goodness and faithfulness of our Savior: To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy-to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.”

“though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad-in order that God’s purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of him who calls- she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.” What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God’s part? By no means! For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills. You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory-”

Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

The role of the Spirit here is to seal these ordinances as the Holy Spirit of Promise. Ephesians 1:13 "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
      14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory." 1 Peter 1:18 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. 22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: 23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." We are born again by the "precious blood of Christ!"
The Apostle James explained that justification requires faith and also works. James 2:20 "But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only."

If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” The Shepard’s (Jesus Christ) sheep are those who follow him.
1 John5:16 “If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.” The sin unto death or unpardonable sin is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost. Matthew 12:31 “¶ Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.”
Salvation Father and the does indeed come by grace in that a plan of salvation was made for humankind by our Heavenly Savior provided the perfect sacrifice by which salvation is available.

Our faith is not a switch that we turn on and keep it on by proxy, it's a constant battle that we must face every day. We must turn on the switch every day.
Salvation is like the DMV where we must have all of our things in order(Faith plus acts) and pick a number, then wait in line(Living life according to the Jesus's teachings). If we leave the line(Fall back into living in sin) or don't have our things in order(Faith minus acts or visa versa) by the time our number is up(Death) we cannot get service(Salvation).
I value everyone at Apologia and the work they do but when it comes to Calvanist doctrine on salvation, It just doesn't sit right.
Dr.White's mischaracterizations of contentions to Calvanist salvation is hardly a satisfactory answer as much as it's a blanket dismissal without much scripture to justify even considering it as one. Luke 9:23 touches on this issue, if "once saved, always saved" is true then why would Jesus say "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily"? Keyword being "desires", explain to me how Calvanism can reconcile the implications of this verse?
Not only that, as this is a very small part of the issue Calvanism has, in my estimation. By far the largest issue is this, why did Jesus offer himself on the cross to forgive us of our sins if the elect are the only ones eligible for salvation? Was Jesus sacrifice merely symbolic? Is Jesus not capable of saving the un-elect? Because God already predestined our fate before time, why would he send his only begotten son to save only the few, and why was His sacrifice necessary? How can you rationalize this when you also say that Jesus saves perfectly? So, Jesus saves perfectly, but only 2% of the time? That's absolutely absurd.
I'm not trying to argue, I just don't find the answer that's given to the objection persuasive.

A Christian can lose THEIR salvation, but he can't lose HIS salvation.
The above ambiguous statement is timely for two reasons, it not only exposes the fault in the theological question, but the hypocrisy of us Christians on the gender pronoun issue!
    Allow me to explain:
    1) If salvation is in our hands as a possession, we not only are in danger of losing it, but are certain to lose it. That salvation is a free gift is more or less uncontroversial. We're talking here of the maintenance of this gift. If the gift is like a bouquet if flowers, it is lovely, but destined to wither. If the gift is like a house plant, it depends upon us to water it and ensure its survival. But if the gift is like a seed planted, the dynamics change completely. Everything depends on everything, what kind of seed, what kind of ground, circumstances of weather, etc and who is responsible for its growth. Now, of course, the Bible affirms this last model of salvation--in the parable of the seed/sower in Matthew 13, Mark 4, and Luke 8. Let's skip this topic, and move to the next, because there's not enough bits and bytes in the Cloud to contain all that needs to be said on this subject.
"A Christian" is a singular noun of indeterminate gender. In colloquial speech, but not standard English, we often use "their" as a singular possessive pronoun, as in the question, "Can a Christian lose their Salvation?" Not too long ago, a teacher would have corrected us, "You mean, can a Christian lose his or her salvation." The phrase "his or her" was considered correct even if cumbersome. "Their" is the possessive of "they" the third person plural pronoun. In the last few decades, "they" has become colloquially acceptable in cases of indeterminate gender for the third person singular. For example, the following dialogue could be heard and pass by with a hint of social justice arm twisting:
"There was a salesman at the door just now."
    "Well what did they want?"
Back to the first point. The salvation is His, as in Christ's by virtue of his victory. He shares it with us.

Be interested to hear why you think this. Do you read Gods word ? What he says is the gospel truth. Straight out of the bible. The truth that God breathed out. What part don’t you understand ?
