    Just a suggestion.. Instead of spending 150 on a bench seat shifter.. You could take a piece of metal, like a 4" by 4" and drill holes and move your shifter up far enough to have it drivable. I'm sure by now you're already putting your bucket seats in but hey. Just a suggestion. Love your work man

    • @kenrinck4916
      @kenrinck4916 Před 6 lety

      Ashton Lawson That's the same thing I was going to suggest. I hope he reads this one. There should be something in his scrap metal pile that he could do that with. It would mean 2 more nuts and bolts, but it would be temporary. Have a good day.

  • @calvinhandley2373
    @calvinhandley2373 Před 6 lety

    From what I've seen you have the welding and fab skills to alter that shifter to fit. Just a matter of cutting the shift lever and welding in a curved piece. On the other hand you already have the bucket seats. You could just go ahead and put the buckets in.
    In any case congratulations on solving the problem with the clutch linkage instead of doing the cable or hydraulic route that you didn't want.

  • @peterpower0495
    @peterpower0495 Před 6 lety

    Just a fore warning about the clutch fork, I recommend putting a return spring going from the engine cross member to the clutch fork. Because as you drive and everything breaks in. Your clutch rod may start rattling against the fork. Mine did after I finished my engine swap. just my two cents so you don't start chasing a noise around like me.

  • @Petrol360
    @Petrol360 Před 6 lety

    Once you get driving if the clutch pedal is still to heavy and short of a throw you can mobe the rod further down the shift fork away from the transmission. This will gove less throw for the clutch (or a longer pedal push to the floor) it will also make the clutch lighter in doing so. Might make it a bit easier to daily drive. Glad it worked out! Make sure to all jam nuts and locktight to the all thread!!

    • @Thecraig909
      @Thecraig909  Před 6 lety

      Thanks for the info! I’ll most likely go hydraulic soon anyways but this will do for now with some fine adjustment!

  • @fireman1294
    @fireman1294 Před 6 lety

    Make an adapter bracket with a 30 degree bend in it. Just big enough to bolt to the shifter base and the linkage rod. This is a temp fix and when you go to your buckets you simply remove that bracket and bolt the shifter back to where you have it.

    The cone that goes against the shift Fork where the adjustment nuts are you should try to find one that's threaded it's like 77 to 79 pickups had them. I had one come apart one night and lost the end had to drive home with no clutch.

    I did this same swap on my '78 GMC. Three speed on the column to the TKO floor shift. It's a great trans. I see you have a video on making a shifter, I ended up just moving mine to the center plate on the transmission.

    Cant you cut a groove into the bench seat to give the shifter more room until you get the frames on the other seats and install them? I dont know if you are looking to sell the bench but it seems a quick temp fix. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.

    Don't buy another shifter, just get ahold of some 1/2" plate steel make it 2-3" long and bolt plate to bracket and shifter moving it forward. Put a boot cover over it and no one will notice. Once you get your buckets set-up, remove the steel plate.

    lock the handel in a vice and heat just above the bilt point itll be trial and error so bend a little at a time til its forward then you just need to go up a little higher and bend it back
