Not going to lie this is the first time I have heard this type of story from a African (Black) point of view it’s generally the other races within South Africa that move. The truth is now after the looting and drama in KZN & Gauteng this video is so raw and true we are all feeling it. Where do we go? Should we go? What about family and children?

There is something about us blacks and keeping quiet even when we are suffering. White people complain literally all the time when they are unhappy. They are vocal but we choose silence for some reason that I may never understand. I've been attacked by black people saying that I'm lying about my experience. Some called me a traitor and I'm like wait a minute, aren't you suffering the same way I suffered? They said I should have kept my mouth shut because now I sound like I'm a white person. Njanieeeee. I refuse to keep quiet and I'm glad I left.

Things are bad and the government is not doing anything to try and fix the country. We can't spend the rest of our lives fighting, bathong life is meant to be enjoyed. The problem with us Black people is that we have romanticized Struggle and Suffering. Life is not meant to be lived this way please. Anyways, Wish you the best of luck Promise . I think she did the right thing especially if it's for the sake of her kids, here's no future in S.A and why people be going on about other people struggling here cause lemme tell you something "me and you are 2 completely different individual people" so why must she endure what other people is okay with enduring when there is a solution and a way out, the only reason why people that struggle struggle because they don't have a way out but I bet if they did and had the same opportunities as this lady they would do the same. Stop trying to compare everything, if somebody wants to do something different let them be and stop feeling like everyone should live like you or experiencing what you going through.

I honestly cannot do something like this.
It seems desirable at times, but if we leave, who will fix the country to make it "unleavable" in the first place.
I regularly watch videos of African Americans leaving the West and coming to Africa.
But when they're here, they find that they have to start life like it's the 1800s because there aren't enough basic services that work. And there probably will never be because a Nigerian wants to "live their best life" as an engineer in a developed country, instead of fixing their own country so that people can live their best in that nation.
All this made me realise that leaving the continent, ESPECIALLY as a Black person is detrimental to Black people.
    Here's what I mean.
If South Africa were to fail...like say a Sudan, and we become another dirty African country, and everyone had to become refugees and move to "good countries" , which South African do you think will have a better time there, and which South Africans will get dirty looks?
    Black or White?
You see, White South Africans can always run to the West and assimilate easily because they are the same ethnicity.
Black South Africans and every other South African really will be labeled minorities and thus be marginalised.
You see, if South Africa collapses, White South Africans have a back up plan. They have a safe haven they can go to, that wouldn't be difficult to adjust to. They have Europe, Black South Africans do not.
We ONLY have Africa to fall back on.
There is no "Europe" or "Australia" equivalent we can fall back on, if the country falls apart.
Black Americans cannot do like the "Apartheid lovers of 1994" and flee to another White country when they get racially discriminated against.
There is no Australia for them to run to!
In Africa, the closest thing we have to an "Australia" or a developed White nation is South Africa.
For African Americans who want to have the same privilege that a White person has, their only choice is South Africa!
It would be so terrible for us as South Africans -specifically Black South Africans, to abandon the only developed Black nation IN THE WORLD!
Instead of making it into the haven for people who want a different experience in their lives.
But regardless, I am not against people who want to find happiness in their lives, just as realise the consequences of such.

Lu, I hear what ur saying but it's a bit of a wild blanket statement that white people have a European/Aussie backup plan. I'm from a white home, middle income bracket and there is NO way that we can financially move overseas. If things fall apart in SA our best hope is Namibia or Botswana, which by the way (along with Rwanda) offer some amazing quality of life that we as South Africans often arrogantly overlook. I'm here for the long haul for South Africa, but I say that from the cushy and patriotic position of never having experienced a hijacking, armed robbery, rape or viscious trauma. I'm in one of those weird moments where I don't want to say what I'm going to say because it instantly adds a certain type of nuance to the conversation and directs it to a place I have no desire to unpack......BUT, it's heartbreaking that a strong, black South African family doesn't feel that there's a place for them in South Africa because of our ridiculously unsafe society.
Now listen, people migrate for a myriad reasons and at the end of the day we go to where the opportunity is.
HOWEVER, in the case of our beloved Mzansi - it's not even that so many of us have left/are leaving because we don't have opportunity at home per se but rather because it's becoming a literal case of "life or death". There's a reason why South Africans abroad connect with each other so easily in spite of the differences that keep as apart at home - because overseas we're not saddled with them. Abroad we can just be our super sunny, happy, hospitable African selves without the need of modifiers first.
It's just heartbreaking that our people are so scattered now, taking our special brand of humanity out of the mother country where it's needed the most...because our esteemed leaders insist on creating a society where marginalisation persists where it never needed to.
So here we are. In an ever increasing diaspora united by an inherent sadness that we're not getting to live out our best lives in the country of our birth. With all of our history, as complex and tragic as it can be at times we are still of a generation that wants more. That believes in more. That aspires...to more and moreover can OFFER more - but there is seemingly none who would have it.
Instead, we scrapple amongst ourselves at home for the one seat at the table - instead of creating more seats.
More power to you Promise, I wish you every bit of success and luck that you and your family deserve but always remember that while your future lies abroad, the footprints of your past are firmly set in Mzansi.

In your trashing of South Africa and Africans in general, you forget to mention the economic disparities that exist in South African society which contribute to high level of crime. You also fail to mentioned the fact that such disparities exist because of the horrible history which caused it's citizen to develop unequally.
What percentage of South Africans that earn above R6000 to be able to pay income tax to be able to contribute to GDP?You're making a mistake by comparing Australia to South Africa, Australia is far richer than South Africa, that is why things generally run better than our country.

I really empathise with your story. Zimbabwe is in a worse situation than South Africa. The country is a failed state thanks to decades of being ruled by a corrupt, incompetent and oppressive regime. Most Zimbabweans have accepted this fact and have adapted. It’s like a relationship between an abuser and the abused. Some people believe that they owe the current regime their loyalty because of the role they played in the war for independence against Smith government. Plus the media propaganda that paints the west as evil. Despite Mugabe and his cohorts’ atrocities, there are still people, even non Zimbabweans, who revere them as “heroes.” You’ll be shocked that there are people who will tell you that they would rather be oppressed by a black person than a white person. On the other hand, those who can afford it, migrate.

@TheKatangeseDollar, that is just one narrative, but there is another narrative that is different and less popular. The greatest sin Zimbabwe ever did was to have a land policy that was not favorable to the West, as a result of that, West used their economic muscle to teach Zimbabwe a lesson. How do you explain US Dollar being being equivalent to 1 billion Zimbabwean Dollars? How is Zimbabwe is expected to do anything with that kind of situation. It never help the situation the fact that in numerous occasion, Mugabe had publicly shamed the West for their hypocrisy.

People should learn to put themselves first coz a flag isn't gonna give you a better life... government damn sure ain't gonna do nothing for you... If you have the opportunity to go overseas and earn a better living it's safe to say something is wrong if you don't take it because of rahcism...move on...Rahcism isn't new...it exists everywhere you go....keep it pushing...and if you like being in bad conditions because of a flag, country or continent don't crap on someone else's choice to not share those same sentiments.

(which is disappointing) and there are people who are in SA saying that it's not as bad maybe coz they stay in nice neighborhoods like Fourways and Sandton...we have to understand that yes nothing is perfect and those imperfections affect people differently..at the end of the day this speaks to how as AFRICA we need to wake the fuck up... Coz Africans for one reason or the other are taking valuable skills and building other economies simply because we don't have out shit together...South Africans are leaving SA for greener pastures...check the news they even called it the great migration..people selling their properties, liquidating things to leave... I am not so sure how much you understand of non White culture of South Africa. She talks about here ordeal at the clinic where she took her husband to, she uses a certain accent to illustrate the attitude of the nursing staff. I understand exactly what she meant, it is a covert language that a racist person (or a person with little respect towards a township person) will use to communicate their attitude, hence I said she despises South Africa, she even generalized in saying that’s what they do in Africa. Africa has over 50 countries, she cannot have possible experienced all of them. When the late Osama bin Laden called Americans were a nation of infidels, many Americans took offense to it, it was never said that Bin Laden was expressing his expériences, so he is entitled to it.
It’s easy to disrespect Africans because we don’t have a power to retaliate, the World has gotten used to associate any negative thing with us. Donald Trump called us shit hole countries, and he never was called into order.
