I've read multiple comments on this thread about skipping chains. Skipping chains are often caused when you replace your chain without also replacing your rear cassette(sprocket) or vice versa. One is more worn out than the other, and don't fit together well. I recommend replacing your cassette and chain at the same time.
@1pixie That could be a sticky link. Put your rear gear on the highest gear (smallest cog) and watch the chain go over the link as you drive the chain. If there is a sticky link it will hop of the cassette. Once you identify the culprit bend it up and down and from side to side to loosen the join.
A close up of the power link would help those not familiar with them, also, if you attach the new chain to the old chain you can just pull the new chain round the front and rear derailleurs. It saves a lot of fiddling.
SIMON ALLEN Simply put the chain on the big chainring at the front and the smallest on the rear . Lift the chain front from the front chainring, if it lifts easily and you see a lot of daylight between the teeth and the chain - Consider replacement, a replacement chain is cheap and easy to fit and will save wear on the chainrings and rear cassette .
@evanscycles i'm having trouble finding helpful info for this but recently I've been having trouble with my bike chain. Every time I go up a hill and/or apply more force to petals, about every rotation my chain will sort of skip and it makes riding unbarable for I do ride mostly in hilly areas. I've tryed most all gears and had the same outcome, leading me to the conclusion that something is wrong with my chain. any help or information would be much appriciated thanks -Owen
