    I agree the internal or built in router is trashed! It works at home for the most part but very unreliable in the field live. So as my man stated, “use an external router!” I for the most part have no lost connections using external router. The iOS update that was released considering being in the dark and crashing before this is a fresh drink of water. I’m grateful to this point of having the considerable use of my iPad to mix. Thanks again!

    We connect our XR 18 to a built in HUB. i.e., the ethernet out goes to a multiport HUB. THEN....we run ethernet ULTRA cable to all the P16M mixer boxes on stage. THE ONLY WAY TO GO.......yes. The internal WiFi is very bad............Before that, we switched to an external router....still got interference. Hard wire. ONLY WAY TO GO. I had Whirlwind Audio custom make our box for us. Everything is in a nice portable case! Very very pro for all our shows.

    Thanks for this video. Ran into this problem today on my xr12 and remembered that I had not updated. I will update it later today but I’m not hopeful. What’s interesting is that I have 2 xr18s and an mr18 and have not had this problem on those.
    It’s sad that the internal router is not reliable. I generally have not had problems with it when I’ve used the internal router when I use the XR as sub mixer for my keyboard rig.

      I'm happy you've been able to get away using the built-in router. Some people get very lucky and use it in spaces without much network traffic. But speaking from experience, it's only a matter of time until it happens to you and you don't want to be caught off guard!
      Please let me know if the update solves your issues. I'm genuinely curious to see who it works for and who it doesn't. Let me know what hardware version you're running regardless of the outcome!
      Thanks for watching and happy mixing!

      @@QuickEZ I’ve used the XR18 as my keyboard rig & backing track mixer for 5 years. I usually use the M-Air app instead of XAir or MixingStation. Just looks better. Never issues with internal router but it’s generally a set and forget process once stage and FOH engineers are happy with my routing and output signals. Usually route 8 usb outputs to the XLR outs. Actually want to get app working again correctly so I can make my soon-coming setup: routing 16 channels of audio from the XR’s ultranet port to the new Midas DN4816.
      And looks like update is NOT fixing the connection issue. However, mixing station connects just fine. SMH. Cmon Music Group.

    The internal router always worked fine at home, but on the job what I found was because I could not hide the router smart cell phones tried to connect. Imagine 100 cells automatically trying to connect. All I ever asked for, for Years, was to provide a way to hide the router’s name. I am a retired IT person with over 43 years experience.

    • @QuickEZ
      @QuickEZ  Před 11 dny

      That’s part of it for sure.
      But the fact the XR mixers only have 2.4 ghz is also part of the issue.
      It’s a saturated spectrum.
      I had one even where I got absolutely squashed by every other access point in the building. I couldn’t connect because every other AP was absolutely burying my mixers AP.
      Thankfully, I never go anywhere without backups so I hardwired and never ever used the built in wifi again.

      @@QuickEZ I only used the Client not the Access Point when using it on the job. Granted there was no internet access, but I didn’t need or want it on the job. In addition, if I could have hidden the name only those I gave the name to could connect hence passwords would not be necessary either. Number of clients is not limited with the external router.

    Thanks for this. You've new sub I appreciate your in depth easy understand vids.
    Mainly I watched this video to learn how to update my firmware on xr18 and also update my mixing station pro software apps. I've successfully, 2yrs now, been using both without updates w external 5g router but mixing station pro has features now I can't access apparently unless I update my xr18 firmware. I tried updating mixing station but it won't update it seems.
    I realize this isn't a mixing station video but just sharing my experience. Because I'm not a very technical person it seems possibly in my instance to leave things as is because it's working... if it's not broke don't fix it. LOL
    I've used mixing station and an external router from day 1 and for most part vry few problems of any kind.

    The built in Router problem has been since the very start of the Xair family. It's quite logical this should be used as a "last resort backup" . A decent router is between $50 to €100. It's a bit too much to ask from a $520 mixer. It's best to connect it to a external router and you'll have no problem, at least i never had issues

    • @QuickEZ
      @QuickEZ  Před 3 měsíci

      agreed. I NEVER use the internal router.
      But I need to provide information on that connectivity whenever I can. There are folks who use it at home and thats a pretty acceptable use-case for the internal router.

    Yeah, IMO the problem is not the firmware running the internal router, but rather that the radio is just not robust enough. Plus the 2.4GHz band is really congested anyway. Best bet is to just put it in a rack with an external router. I've had really zero problems since using external.

    • @QuickEZ
      @QuickEZ  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi @kunafin59, if you use an external router, then yes of course you can have internet connectivity if you add an internet connection to the WAN port of the router, then anything connected to it will have the ability to touch the internet. Unfortunately, if you're using the built-in router, then the answer is no, the system isn't built that way

    Hi, I still have the connection problem with my XR18 even with the updated firmware and the updated ipad app. The 'connection lost' wheel of death just spins and spins. No brownie points for Behringer there. No connection problem with MXMix app using the built in Wifi, just a general lack of functionality.

    I did all the updates and had all kinds of connectivity issues using an external router. The connectivity issues were the worst in the xair app but were also present using the mix station app. Unfortunately I’ve had a great run with my XR18 but I can’t rely on it anymore.

    I wonder how long it will be before all these phones with 5GHz radios crowd the 5GHz routers? I'm surprised it's not already more of a problem, although there may be things I don't understand, technologically speaking.

    • @QuickEZ
      @QuickEZ  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I suspect it will be a few years before we see the same congestion. 2.4 is still the most used band.
      And the 5 GHz band has more room. More non-overlapping channels.

      However, I'm in the middle of a home renovation at the moment so unfortunately, it's a bit down the list.
      That being said; A few questions for you so I can understand your setup better:
      1. Is your external router a wireless router?
      2. Are you connecting your XR18 to the external router via ethernet or via Wifi?
      3. Are you trying to connect your iPad to the external router or directly to the XR18 internal Wifi?

      My mixer is connected to a external router via ethernet and I have a ethernet cable running from my router to my MacBook. I have a ethernet cable run designated for my ipad as well, but I would rather have a wireless signal to my ipad from my external router to run the software

    • @QuickEZ
      @QuickEZ  Před 5 měsíci

      As long as you’re connecting you iPad to the same router you’re mixer is on, you should be good to go.
      Just doublecheck that after you connect to that wifi with your iPad, that it doesn’t disconnect you and try to grab another network.
      It does happen that iPads will switch networks if they detect that the one you chose has no internet access.
      If you check that, and it’s not the cause. Let me know your ip address from the iPad and the ip of the mixer.

    Unable to obtain a Mac compatible Firmware zip file from Behringer downloads so does update need to be performed via a PC? ..which I don’t have. 😕

    • @QuickEZ
      @QuickEZ  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi,
      the firmware download on the Behringer site isn't mac or pc, it's an UPDATE file which isn't proprietary to either operating system.
      You simply download the file to a place on your computer where you can find it easily.
      go to:
      BEHRINGER.COM > DOWNLOADS
      In the table that comes up choose:
      > MIXERS
      > DIGITAL STAGEBOX MIXERS
      Then choose which model you have. and select FIRMWARE in the last column.
      Download the firmware you want/need to a location you'll remember
      then open the XAir Edit software...
      click on SETUP
      click on UPDATE FW
      then go to the location of your download to find the UPDATE FILE.
      The file you downloaded will end with the name " .update "
      once you select the file, the mixer will apply the update and then reboot.
      the whole thing should take about 10 - 20 seconds. Boom, you're done, all updated and ready to go.
      Hope that helps.
      Thanks for watching and happy mixing.

    I just bought a brand new XR18 and it has V1 hardware. Should it have been V2 since it's new? What's even the difference?

    • @QuickEZ
      @QuickEZ  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi,
      V2 is only for mixers that were manufactured during chip shortages that occurred due to COVID supply chain issues and used a different chipset that the original. I believe this chipset change affected the FPGA's used for DSP and nothing else.
      If you happened to purchase a mixer that was manufactured prior to this, then it would of course have the V1 hardware.
      But this should not cause you any issues, I have an XR that is V1 and it's still going strong.
      Your mixer should function without issue being V1.

    • @QuickEZ

      Hi Roberto, 1.6.7 is the latest version released roughly 5 months ago.
      My understanding is that there will not be any further updates to the existing X Air app unless they have to solve bugs introduced by new iOS releases.
      They are keeping it functional only.
      Behringer's focus is on their new app MX-Mix which is still in Beta and probably won't be done until much later this year.
