- This episode I bring trapper Bill Smith back to do some raccoon trapping on my hunting property. I go over the basics of running dog proof traps for raccoons and why we do it. In the end we skin a raccoon for its fur and BBQ one! You won’t believe we ate it!

Like you said : As long as you clean it properly ( Skin it, remove all of the musk glands and inerds ) and took it properly, Coon is very edable. I have eaten many in my life time along with many other wild animals ! Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it ! ! !
Won’t be my last!
They are a little on the greasy side for me but they are edible.
Another great video brother. Don’t make the same mistake I did, when I was dispatching the raccoon I accidentally shot the release button on the trap and the raccoon chased me for two hours in the woods before finally giving up on chasing me. Close call!
😂🤣😂
Lol I almost did that with one I caught last night 😂 good thing I didn't I was in shorts because it was 3am and I was in bed when I caught it. Good thing those traps are tough it hardly bent it even
Your going to be hooked on trapping for life now ! It's like Christmas morning when you were a kid .
Oh I’m hooked!
Never would have thought yall would have tried raccoon, but after hearing yall tried opossum, then I guess I can believe it. Yall are brave!! Kudos to you!!! Trapping looks fun, taking care of those nuisances. Great work y’all!
@@CatchingupwithCam I was just kidding about the possum
@@TugTrashOutdoors Oh haha. Too funny!
@@CatchingupwithCam anytime she asks what something new is I always tell her possum as a joke. She is a trooper and with try anything I cook once.
Tug, for your traps put a pingpong ball onn top of it & drizzle a sweet syrup over it, it will make the raccoons more curious. The meat looked amazing and the fact Bianaca loved it makes my heart sing. ❤❤ I always taught make kuds to be open minded & try everthing once.
Nana is absolutely correct. Put a ball up there. I find ping pong balls to be a bit light so I use golf balls that are brightly colored. Effective for spotting the trap and keeping pesky squirrels, chipmunks and mice out so the coons can come in and be dinner.
Will do!
Great video, I've trapped them all my life. I cooked one with potatoes and carrots like a pot roast, took it to the fire department and had lunch for the crew but told them it was beef, they ate it all. It's always just in your head. Keep up the good work, stay safe Capt.
Yes sir!
I got my wish. Miss B eating racoon. I'd like to see how it was cleaned and where the glands are.
My daughter was a vegan for 25 years in California. She moved out here to Tennessee
and started eating game because she doesn't need to worry about how they were raised. Now she butchers deer rabbit hogs, frogs and anything else she finds.
Great video.
Rabbit up next!
In the 1800s people actually ate skunks. They removed the glands and cooked in them up. I'm just not that desperate. Racoons and armadillo OK.Never ate a possum either. Many a hungry family did . During the depression people were happy to have a pot of anything.
Two things. Check your regulations because in NC this would be illegal because the length of the cables. If you take a bag of raisins and pour raspberry jello powder over them makes the best bait for these traps
I’ll try that!
We need Tug to have a Sh$t more Subscribers!!!!! His Videos are Phenomenal he is teaching us all from the ocean to the woods!!! Has a great fam that participates and his content is amazing. God bless brother to you and the family and thank you for keeping us entertained with your work bro. Happy Holidays to everyone!!👊🏻👊🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I'm to crippled up now. I love these videos. Keep them up we love them ❤️
Thank you, Ian and crew👍👍👍 awesome video👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Racoon eggs . I had to rewind. Lol. 😂
Very rare
@@TugTrashOutdoors 🤣
It was a good laugh
I said the same thing 😂
Absolutely love your videos. Trials and errors of learning. You have a awesome family. So much support from your family and your CZcams subscribers. When cooking, chit happens. We all have had that happen. HUGS and kisses. 😂
Thank you so much!
Great video love seeing the Boston terriers my best hunting n fishing partner just lost his this week RIP BRUNO!!
Man I am so sorry to hear that. I love my dogs and the breed although Marlin is not nearly as laid back as Mullet
Loving the variety. This is awesome.
Glad you like it! Will be back to crabs, shrimp, and fish soon!
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I grew up in FL. Never ate a raccoon. Been wanting to try in since reading A Land Remembered. Looks good.
Even with the loss footage, it’s an awesome video. Thanks for the KFRED shout out my friend.
50/50 kfred and light brown sugar turned out to be a killer bbq rub! I would use it if I didn’t genuinely like it man 🤙🏽
Best bbq I ever had was racoon. Guy at work brought a pan of pork bbq, so he told us. After the fact he told us it was racoon.
😅
The DP traps are the easiest way to find quick success trapping raccoons. You might try some blind trail sets with a 1.5 coil or a #11 double long spring, also a great method. Once you start trapping your hooked. It’s the best management tool available. Working the raccoons, skunks and possums toward the end of your season will yield the best results for your turkey. When you take them out you create a vacuum effect, the closer you are to the turkey brood the more it minimizes the chance for these animals to repopulate giving the nests the best chance to not be raided. I do this for a number of people I trap on and it yields great results for them. The hides will be a lot worse but you aren’t trapping for fur so it’s indifferent in your case. Tight chains.
Check you my other trapping videos too!
Used to work in the NC and SC and the Lumbee’s would bring bbq raccoon 🦝 to job for lunch. Yum. Better than I thought it would be
Right?!?
Thanks for another great video. I hav3 a huge problem with them on my property in SC. The turkey population has definitely decreased over the years. I will be buying some of these traps and making up some bait like you did.

Awesome!
Krystal's face when she said raccoon 😂😂😂
🤣

Very nice! Haven’t heard of the store Piggly Wiggley since college in Shreveport, La. 1985. Cool to how you enjoy and help nature ! I subscribed!
We love the pig!
Keep up the good work brother!!
Love the videos….
Thank you
Ole speed master is a fine weapon wish I could find one
It holds a special place in my heart because it was my dads
It's great you blessed your food
Please do this again would love to see the clean and cook awesome video
I definitely plan to
Coon ‘death kick’ is a YT violation for sure! Old folks used to live catch them then put them in a pen and feed them for about two weeks to clean them out. And, the meat is much better. Putting the meat in. Pressure cooker helps. Nice!
I was advised a fat sow coon was the best and that’s what I ate
Beautiful family moment.
😆
Looked good! Sorry to hear about the SD cards. I bought some on clearance at Aldi and now I'm afraid to try them lol.
Idk that camera is acting up too
I’m a newbie and I love your content 👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you!
A great way to bait is to use marshmallows. Raccoons love sweets. I’ll also drizzle a little artificial butter flavored pancake syrup.
I really enjoy your content. Subscribed to your channel. I have been benge watching all of the videos I look forward to new uploads.
Welcome aboard!
Awesome video! Man, you are covered up with racoons! to trap that many in that short period of time is amazing! All corn fed!
You got that right!
Way to go- I enjoyed this video.
About that REM 552- you’re probably already aware that they’ll shoot shorts, longs, and long rifle ammo.
The 22short HP rounds are great for squirrels.
Coon is pretty good man I did in fact have ours on a sandwich’s, keep them videos coming!!
🙌🏽
They sell a setting tool for those traps and if you fillet mullet and store it in oil the put it in the trap and a little around the. Side the love it
I’m sure they do!
Thanks
When I was a kid we went to Iowa to see relatives and I ate canned racoon I liked it the meat was dark red tender and delicious. Unfortunately I never hunted them here in Oregon but I did dispatch quite a few when I was a Deputy Sheriff that invaded people's homes. Couldn't keep them to eat.
I bet some
Of those stories are great!
Nicee . I like how you're straight to the point and keep it simple and family friendly. You'll bee up there with deer meat for dinner and ace videos soon enough bro
I try to just be real. I am filming my life. I’m glad people enjoy 🤙🏽
Great video
Thanks!
Yea a golf ball on top with small amount chocolate syrup.. the ball will keep mice from stealing ur bait aswell.. & I always thought they don't like fish oil taste just used for the smell
They seemed to be tearing it up
@@TugTrashOutdoors definitely seemed tht way which had me confused since that's what I always herd.lol.
@@ne634 I think them jokers will eat just about anything though
Sticky fingers Carolina gold Bbq goes great with raccoon
Literally no joke
Man I wish I had not lost all that footage. I really put a lot of work into the cook on this one
Been eating that since i was a kid my nanny ( god mother) would smother it with onions and baked sweet potatoes. Great video either way.
I think most people have no idea how good they are
I've cooked them in a slow cooker and made stew and on an open fire with seasoning very good 👍
Great idea!
Well I have the Meater's Book also.... I might make a marinade for it, sear it and maybe try it in my Instant Pot. OR smoke it a bit in my weber grill with apple wood and then instant pot it for at least a half an hour.... Anyway it is something to try.
Do it!
Great video.
Thanks!
Hey Tug, Rev. Paul, Eustis Florida. I’ve heard of putting milk over the whole carcass chilling all day or night, or 50/50 water and vinegar same. Apple cider vinegar is best (unfiltered) :)
All I did was keep in in a well iced cooler with the drain plug open a couple days ago
You said fun fact raccoons don’t have salivary glands but they actually do they just wet there paws to help them feel better.
I thought the same thing for years because that’s what someone told me.
I need to order some of those traps!!
It’s a lot of fun
@@TugTrashOutdoors yes indeed!!!
Thanks guys, beep happens. Still enjoyed it.
Thanks
Great video! I’ve never had bbq raccoon or onion sausage.
It's so good!
Great video, too bad about the lost footage.
You tickled me callin’em “ hands” Tug!
🤣
Forest kitties. Yum.
😆
Rabbit and Raccoon hash is my favorite. I trap them too.
Sounds good!
Great content 👍, even in the Netherlands we have now these vicious critters.
Oh wow!
That’s where Krystal’s family is from !
I would love to come down someday for prayer and Bible study hunting that would be awesome you guys are great
Never tried it but want to
You didn't ruin the video at all, that was a nice haul of ricky's and end meal looked GuuuD!
I appreciate that
Awesome, and you look like Kevin James
I’ve heard that lol
Ive used dog proof traps for years. I use dry cat food with a few squirts of bacon grease lol its like candy to the little bandits!
Doesn’t anything taste good with bacon grease! Lol
LOL yup!@@TugTrashOutdoors
Man when i was working at GP in Palatka a man brung in pulled pork after three sandwiches. We found the little rib bone. That being said it was good. Not everyone was happy...haha
🤣
I always use marshmallows
Got 4 in the freezer from this season we will have a cookout
Was that Little Debbie's Oatmeal Creme Pie's??? If so, I like to smather crunchy peanut butter on thickly with a generous amount of chocolate mini-morsel on top... better make two or three... they are really good~~!
some mighty fine eating here
Awsome chops like u said chops for 2 kings😊
Y’all’s kid looks like a perfect 50/50 blend of mom and dad !
😁
Those pancakes look real good. If you are going to take the caloric hit, then I suggest at minimum use real maple syrup. Corn syrup is processed by the liver, and contribute to inflammation so I have been told. Great hunting!
What about raccoon how is that for inflammation?
@@TugTrashOutdoors That racoon looked awesome.
Looks Delicious.😊
Yum
Every thing comes out of a pacage when you are out in the woods. Robin Frazier
All I ever use for bait with marshmallows and syrup
Yeah I mean almost anything sweet or smelly will work
@@TugTrashOutdoors yes sir i just used the cheapest i could get
I do want to see the raccoon eggs 😅
I’m still looking for one!
Great video 👍
Someone needs to make a diagram of where all these glands are 😜
Lots of them too
A cleaning video would be super helpful
Noted!
I would like to see how to properly clean raccoon
Takes a STRONG person to set trap
Nice 👍
🙌🏽
That's right fellas give GOD his due!!!❤😊🎉
Coon meat is really good. You can cook it anyway you cook pork or chicken. Just make sure it is completely cooked. Do not eat it medium rare. Just like pork. American pork...
Oh yeah it was yummy
Where I work, the ladies requested every raccoon possible.
Sounds like an awesome place to work
Cool video. Shocked PETA hasn't come after you as they don't understand where meat comes from. Lol
🤣
Tug I'd really like some info on the hunt camp in SC how do I obtain that
Unfortunately we are full up.
Maybe a dumb question but what are you using to “dispatch” the raccoon
22lr
Prayer, love to see that boys. Amen
Hard to watch Rocky get trapped and killed. And heck no on eating him. However, this was very interesting. Thanks for the content!
HAILYES TO THE YES. WHAT AN AWESOME VIDEO. SHAWN SULLIVAN FROM PALATKA FLORIDA 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Right around the corner!
Your wife was hesitant to eat your raccoon, I think your dogs convinced her and she decided to try it! heh heh I really like how you educate your daughter. Not everything in life is McDonald's or Burger King!
If the grocery stores all disappeared I promise you I’d be eating lots of raccoons
Pear oil your next one then soak it in honey and bake it on 350 for around a hour
Marshmallow and drizzle your menhaden oil on it and they won’t be able to resist it cheaper than corn
Good tip
I attach my traps to cinder blocks.
Nice
I ate bbq hyena once
Trapped all my life it’s awesome
It’s addictive
I cook raccoon many different ways. It is a great wild game meat!
