Honestly I just wanted to watch swimming as a swimmer myself, fan service was just a plus for me. ARandomGuy We aren't taking anything out of context. We aren't blaming Gigguk for saying this. We are annoyed that there actually were guys who took offense for girls getting their fanservice. So we are annoyed at the people who actually were offended about this, not to Gigguk. As I said, I don't mind any kind of fanservice but I hate hypocrisy and hypocrites and that is exactly what the guys who got offended by fanservice aimed at girls were, claiming it killed anime when fanservice for guys has existed for a long time. I don't see fanservice for one gender killing anime. Either it is fanservice as whole killing it or then it is not. Which gender it is aimed at has nothing to do with it. So please, stop seeing tumblr feminists where they aren't.

The entire "Naturals Election" I was on the edge of my seat yelling in pure child-like glee with everything that was happening before my eyes. I haven't felt that way since well... Gurren Lagann! She was made for comic relief and only comic relief, which meant no actual character development for herself. She is the most one-dimensional, fake character I have ever seen to this day and any form of tension or surrealism died as soon as she said anything.

Yeah, she's a great character that only gets better as the series goes on. By all accounts she should be annoying, but she really works as comedic relief as well as a sympathetic character toward the middle to end of the series.

I understand people like what they will like, but Kill la Kill is the most consistently fun, well-paced, and funny show out of any other show (barring Kyousougiga) of 2013. The show is just FUN, and know how to deliver the goods. It really helps that it's so different from everything else and also has one of the best characters of last season, Mako. I don't know why Gigguk mentions that she's the worst thing to happen to comic relief characters, but to each his own.
On another note, if you haven't yet, you should all go and seriously watch Kyousougiga TV - you won't regret it!

2014 is already good to me since finally after so many loong yrs of waiting Ufotable will make the new Fate/Stay Night. That alone is enough to make 2014 a good yr. Yuki Kajiura with her music of Heavenly Feels and Unlimited Ufotable Works. 2014 is going to be the Fifth Holy Hype War.

But seriously though, Kill la Kill has been great so far, and just the first half of the series has blown Gurren Lagann out of the water for me. Great soundtrack, great characters, it's funny as heck and epic when it comes to action. Also filled with more mystery and suspense and some pretty intense moments and even went Biblical on the audience. There's still halfway to go, but it's so hard to see them possibly messing it up.
Sorry to comment again, but I disagree about KLK surpassing Gurren Lagann... Gurren Lagann was about surpassing your limits and defeating all odds. KLK is RAWR MY DADDY IS DEAD and PLOT. The antagonists just want to take over the world...that's it?
Ryuko and Satsuki are bland, all they have going for them is they're 'badass' and their battle armor shows PLOT.
The series is full of asspulls (episode 6 has someone's Goku uniform overheating when that was never heard of, the natural's election had Senketsu turn into a 'Deus ex machina/plot armor' whenever the situation called for it BOOM everything was OK all of a sudden like when she could fly when the arena got destroyed , at worst Ryuko gets beat up for the first 5 minutes of each battle and she digs deep then wins or draws)
The suspense isn't all that great either...the foreshadowing isn't subtle. We knew that Ryuko was gonna go all monstrous on us, it was only a matter of when. She got out of it by the 'power of love' crap...Mako slapping her snapped her out of it, really?
TL;DR: KLK is overrated with it's mindless action, over-the-top fanservice, bland protagonist and antagonist, and deus ex machinas. I actually enjoy AoT and Gurren Lagann far more than this, but opinions.

That would imply that "surpassing your limits" (which one can still claim KlK is about too) is somehow better than getting revenge. Both have been done multiple times, and personally, I'd take KlK's revenge theme over GL's because it makes the conflict much more personal than fighting an impersonal alien race. Not to mention that the antagonist in GL wanted to take over the universe, while we still don't know the exact motivation of the big bad in KlK.
Both Ryuko and Satsuki have been more memorable than Simon and Kamina for me in these short 13 episodes. Ryuko showed multiple instances of growth, and Satsuki is both badass and mysterious. Her true motivations are also unknown as of this moment, and she's more than all talk.
"Asspulls" would imply that it was made absolutely clear that Goku uniforms could not overheat, when we had seen even a kamui run out of power prior to that.
The Goku uniforms with only 30% life fibers were also shown to previously transform, so what on earth would stop a 100% life fiber kamui from doing the same? In fact, I expected that possibility to be obvious.
And are you really going to talk about asspulls when all you need to succeed in GL is "Spiral Power"?
"Suspense isn't all that great" would imply that Gurren Lagann was better in that area, but I can easily name more points we were left in the dark with Kill la Kill AND are still waiting to be resolved like:
1) Motivations and founding of Nudist Beach
2) Tsumugu's girl friend who went berserk.
3) True nature of Harime Nui's powers
4) Satsuki's intent in attacking the Kansai district last
5) Origin of Life Fibers and Dr. Matoi's ties to Revocs.
etc.
So in the end, KlK is funnier for me, more personal and varied action, more memorable characters, greater suspense and better plot twists and reveals so far. There is still halfway to go, but so far, KlK is far ahead of the game.
Gurren Lagann's big bad, didn't want to take over the universe, they wanted to stop spiral power or evolution because they felt it was self-destructive. I don't know WHAT Ryuko wants anymore now that she's found the killer, she said so herself, she's not fighting for anyone in the recent ep. The big bad's motivation is domination clearly and to see the world her way (that mindless spewing about clothes being sin or what have you, if you're calling that biblical, you're looking into it way too deeply. KLK is as deep as a puddle. People made that same mistake with Gurren Lagann)
Ryuko showing growth? How, overcoming something simple like embarrassment? Growing in power level? Maybe it will happen in the second cour, but Simon started out like a wuss then surpassed the man he once looked up to. Kamina was a badass, a little dim witted, and not afraid to show raw emotion (another thing devoid from kill la kill, it's just argh i'm angry and when the time comes for a heartfelt moment, we get random Mako because Trigger feels the need to keep things 'funny'. See eps 5 and 12 for examples)
Ryuko is a bland shonen protagonist with boobs. Satsuki had better have a good reason for keeping Ryuko in the dark about her father and not slaying her when she had the chance. Why not get rid of the biggest known threat to your campaign? How in the world did you collect all the scraps from Senketsu, and leave one patch that will be Ryuko's silver lining? Did they not see that? Aloof badass; bland and done already.
Overheating happens whenever it wants to. Plot armor strikes again. No one ran out of steam during the Natural's Election. 3 fights in a row PLUS that fight with Nui and Ryuko didn't die of blood loss. Senketsu transforming into anything is an asspull. Hey why not turn into a rifle with a truth serum and end this anime 12 episodes early, eh Senketsu? Spiral power is the indomitable human spirit, all going back to surpassing your limits and going against all odds. Even with that, Nia and a good majority of their comrades still died.
Sure, KLK isn't finished yet and things still aren't resolved, so yeah, I give you those. Again, Some things that have happened were foreshadowed so it was only a matter of time until they happened (Ryuko going monstrous after it was predicted during the Natural's Election battle and episode 5 referring to Kamui consuming someone , Nui appearing in episode 11 told you two things, either she was the killer or Nudist beach, and again, that red patch Ryuko has is obviously gonna be her beacon of hope so I don't know why everyone was in suspense at that) Nothing really happens drastically where it's a total impasse which kills the thrill for me. KLK is slightly more predictable than Gurren Lagann. I can watch the former and still get the same emotional roller coaster in GL. KLK I just cringe at trying to be an 'epic' facsimile/amalgam of Panty and Stocking, FLCL, and TTGL if I watched it again.

They wanted to stop evolution by ruling every creature in the universe. Just semantics.
And yes, even though the speech about clothing being sin is a small theme, it is still a biblical reference. It isn't deep like some Freudian concept, but it does use the clothes and nudist themes for more than surface value.
Ryuko showed growth by opening up to Mako and her family, even though she thought she could do everything on her own before, she learned to treat senketsu as a friend rather than a means of getting revenge. She learned to restrain herself when fighting Mako, seeing that violence is not the only way to get what she wants. And all that in only the first half.
Kamina not afraid to show raw emotion? How is Ryuko's rage not raw emotion? Her response to Nui's confession more than blows that out of the water.
If Ryuko is bland, Simon is even blander to the point of being completely overshadowed by Kamina who only showed up in 7 episodes. Ryuko has even gone past her urge for revenge to serve as an inspiration to the students at the academy. What makes that even greater is that it was Nui who inspired her to do so only to shred senketsu and break her in every possible way.
And you're kind of only supporting my point by showing you DON'T know what Satsuki's true intentions with Ryuko are or why she even seems to care. That's part of a little something called "mystery".
And again, Inuka's uniform was broken by the raw data from Senketsu's transformations. You're giving the impression that you didn't even watch the show and just skimmed it. Saying Senketsu's transformations which are part of the properties of life fibers are "asspulls", yet spiral power which can literally be used to get you out of any situation simply because you have enough of it just screams extreme bias dude.
And you just draw on the worst examples to try to make a point. Ryuko going berserk was already established by the time Tsumugu showed up, but Revocs' grand Couturier being Dr. Matoi's killer was a true surprise. Nui showing up in episode 11 did not indicate in anyway that she was the killer. The scissor blade is what solidified that. The fact that Nui pretended to be the newspaper boy alone blows all the twists in GL out of the water, and the fact that Ryuko has a piece of Senketsu left is not what is suspenseful about the situation, but WHY Satsuki left it for her in the first place.
I cannot even recall a single twist in GL anywhere near all that happened in the last episode except for Kamina's death. Many say that was the highest point of GL, and I'd agree.
You'd have to point out what you thought was unpredictable about GL, because it was one of the most straightforward anime I've seen. I'd go as far as to say that these first 13 episodes of KlK have packed just as much mystery and suspense as the entire GL series.
You know, the right thing to say after all this is wait for KLK to finish to come up with a solid opinion and enjoy each anime for what it is.
I just prefer Gurren Lagann more because it was a confidence builder (yeah, I got something meaningful from mindless Gurren Lagann, laugh), emotional, funny, perilous, has fantastic characters, and it was an interesting hero's journey which I can enjoy over and over. It's my favorite anime which is why I was so vehement in defending it.
I'm just not feeling anything in KLK that everyone else is, I'm sorry but that's how it is, to each their own. I thank you for not coming off as insane as a lot of people in the fanbase.

honestly i liked free, it may have been fan service anime for girls but it still had its action and its comedy aspects
