It's a great idea of yours to return to games that launched suboptimally. Appreciated
"Thank you, Mass Effect: Andromeda/No Man's Sky/Cyberpunk" xD
Bought this game at launch, played it all the way through, had a great time with it despite the issues. That said, I was not keen to go into NG+ knowing that that meant they’d be removing vestiges (bonfires) the more subsequent play throughs that you did. I didn’t even attempt it because the idea just inherently doesn’t appeal to me.
I came back to it when I saw they’d added all the modifiers recently, one of which now allows me to go into NG+ and keep all the vestiges. This allows me to have the added difficulty of NG+ (in terms of enemies being stronger) without the (imo) added nuisance of having to do a lot more running due to lack of checkpoints.
I have to commend them for continuing to support the game and (with the modifiers) allowing me to customize things in order to get my optimal experience.
yeah, removing bonfires was just a bad idea. How many people have said they love darksouls for the bosses, vs love them for the long runbacks and endless grinding of trash mobs.
@@BevanWard preach
@@BevanWard Everyone who played the original Dark Souls vs kids who only played since Dark Souls 3. The original game was centered around no warping and exploration vs just 1-dimensional boss rush simulator that is DS3. DS1 was a more well-rounded game, and so is Lords of the Fallen 2023, it's too bad they had to back out of their original concept of no warping because of crybaby casuals like yourself and OP.
@@avelonzx so you’re mad that I now have the option to play the game how I want AND you can still play the game how you want? Seems like you’re the one who’s being a crybaby.
Especially considering Dark Souls 1 still has warping, it’s just more limited and only accessible halfway through the game. What LotF did was even more extreme than that, so not that great of a defense imo.
@@nickjanecke6688 I am talking about their original concept for the game, not this update or NG+. Learn to read.
Enjoyed this game at launch; though it needed a lot of work, which it has (mostly) gotten taken care of, without asking more of me in terms of DLC or something.
I'll need to give the modifier run a try next time I'm done messing with other games in my backlog.
Bought this game 2 days ago and having a blast! Truly a very good soulslike
You clearly ain't played many if any soulslikes to say that buddy.
@@JohnDoe-pu5gk played every soulsgame and plenty of other titles in this genre :)
@@JohnDoe-pu5gkI’ve played them all and I even agree beaten all souls games Elden ring sekiro and think this is more fun then them all.

@@JohnDoe-pu5gk”wah wah wah this guy likes something I don’t he must be stupid and never played the other games I do like” also who tf are you to talk down on someone bc they think this is a good souls like BUDDY
I love this game, the aesthetic is phenominal and I really like that it's got seamless coop.
How is the coop now? Thinking about picking it up for me and my buddy.
@@HighSpeedReviews I to this day have a blast with my buddy. Off the top of my head I can't think of any bugs. The joy of the coop is you're friend just stays with you, in death and boss defeat and your friend can even find their own stuff from mobs etc.
@@Slyslug did they fix the coop? at the beginning the coop was like that the second person just gets like 30% of the exp or something
@@thimo1999 from my experience been fixed month after launch, maybe week after?
I've been thinking about playing this lately, thanks for the update on it!
Thanks for this video. This was very helpful
I really like the idea of built-in item/enemy randomizers to some extent for NG+ for these types of games. For the Soulsborne/Soulslike genre, randomization has become sort of a genre standard for elevating the difficulty of the game and testing game knowledge further than going to NG+X, and having it built in to games naturally is so much more appealing than having to apply mods to PC versions (which is easy enough, but an extra step nonetheless), or having to crack your console to apply mods there.
I love these updates on older games. Thanks for keeping us posted on changes like these
Older game?!

I've held off on this game until this update. Put almost 50 hours into it in the past week now, and I have to say this is the best non-From Souls style game I've ever played. In large part because of the DS1 style interconnected world. Why are there so few Souls-likes that do this? It's one of the main reasons people regard DS1 so highly, and yet even Fromsoftware abandoned it.
Exactly my take too. I like the aesthetic and world/level design. Not a fan of the linear direction this genre has taken. Not a fan of bosses being difficult for the sake of being difficult either (I despise the way Elden Ring and Lies of P rely so heavily on delayed attacks). This game has issues but the genre as a whole has problems right now.
There is no real need to do that tbh. You have so much more freedom in level design if not trying to connect everything. It's cool but that's it. Overall the game is pretty mid and i stopped playing it after a few hours. The animations are just so janky. The only non from software souls like i like is Lies of P. But thats just me
@@Novskyy621 That was pretty much everybody when it launched, it shafted Lords of the Fallen so hard, people forgot it existed. In terms of game feel, encounter design, bosses, and progression it was just better.
It's a shame they gave up on interconnected worlds. Though it's sort of understandable since it requires more effort and also comes as a detriment to level design.
At least I'm glad that souls like metroidvanias like Hollow Knight and Salt and Sanctuary still keep that spirit alive
@@TheHeartThatRunsCold I just don't feel like that. Btw i played it just two weeks ago. While most technical issues are solved the game just doesn't do it for me. I remember liking the first LOTF much more. Something about the movement and animations, hit detection etc. just feels off and not right
Love the variety you've been including this last year, Mort. Especially the soulslike games, even though I've heard you mention it's not quite your forte. I think the variety lately has been helping your algorithm and drawing in alot of new subs, & rightly so! You're my favorite reviewer and one of the best out there. I always comment saying this but keep up the great work, you certainly deserve the recognition 😊
Thanks! I enjoy soulslikes well enough, they're just a bit further down the list of my favorite genres.
@MortismalGaming oh I know, found you quite a while back looking for info on POE and have been watching you since. It's been cool your diving into other stuff besides CRPGs and props to you because souls games are definitely a niche, well maybe not so much anymore but I always respect people willing to explore other genres outside of their main preferences
Appreciate the video. I avoided this at launch due to the performance issues and enemy density, archers shooting you from off the map and such but sounds like it might be worth giving it a try now AND it's on sale.
One of my favorite soulslike games. Loved how much work the devs put into fixing the probelms. Definitely a worthwhile experience
Thanks for this! Appreciate the update!
I feel that your channel is severely underrated, thanks for all the great content Mortem!
Bought the game due their good patch support - this should be supported! 👍
I haven’t picked up this game yet but from the moment I saw the first release trailer I was hyped. I loved the first one and seeing them go in this direction with the game was so exciting. All of the gameplay trailers I’ve seen look phenomenal and I’m so excited to hear that they’ve made more improvements to fix or enhance other areas of the game.
The trailer with “mother” playing was fucking hype
love your honest review and constant updates keep it up . like as usual
I got about 15 hours into the game before seeing how many updates they were working on, so I shelved it for a later playthrough.
I’m surprised to come back and see a lot of the updates were actually pretty controversial. Like the stat system now has caps, and the bosses have been made more difficult, so people say the game can feel unfair a lot of the time now.
Wasn’t expecting any more coverage from you, but glad to get another opinion so I can work out if it’s worth getting back into or not yet!
Sounds like a good time to jump in on a discount. Thanks for the update!
Really wish I would have waited before I finished the game because it's in so much better a state today than at launch
Thank you for providing your updated take! I’ve kept my eye on this game, as I love the art direction, but wanted to wait until the initial issues were taken care of. With LotF being on sale now, your timing couldn’t have been better!
Thanks for revisiting titles that update mort. Keep up the good work.
Recently picked this up finally only issue I don't like is how floaty and sliding on ice your character is and combat
I got it on discount a few weeks ago on PS5 . I'm around 1/3 of the game and I'm having a good time. I haven't noticed any serious performance issues , maybe a few framedrops once or twice. I love the exploration, the shortcuts are well designed, the umbral system, movement , combat, everything is smooth. There are easy spots to farm leveling. Personally, I think enemies hit a bit too hard. I'm focusing mainly on Vitality (since scaling early doesn't make such difference in weapon damage) and still there are ordinary mobs that do with one hit 60-70% damage and bosses with multiple attacks that can one shot you. Their movements are clear, you can parry or dodge, but the fact that you basically have to make a nearly perfect run to beat a boss makes it frustrating sometimes. Even at that, I haven't gone to more than 15+ tries to a boss.
I had a perfectly good time playing through the is when it first came out! Had very few issues other than stutters in the hub area.
What i wanted from the updated, was the ability tonhave wnemies in Axiom, stay in axiom once in Umbral.
Wanted to play it at launch but the bugs scared me.
Bought it on sale now with this “Masters 1.5” and loving it. Not as hard as Souls, more medium with some bosses I’ve had to fight a couple of times. Really great game with amazing settings.
It’s like “cozy metal gothic” which lends A LOT from all the souls games, even Sekiro and Bloodborne which is awesome.
Thanks for this video!🎉
What are u pc specs? And what settings do you have? Idk why while playing my screen do stuttering and it’s so frustrating because my pc can run this game perfectly
PS5, sorry. 😄
I only bought this game because the shifting mechanic reminded me of Soul Reaver. Wish the writing, lore and story was better but the aesthetic was lovely
I was a preorder/day one player. I’m so happy about the game being smoother now compared to release.
Pumped on this. Own it on PS5 since launch, just bought it on Steam!
I just bought this game a week ago, and I have to say I’m absolutely loving it on ps5.
I see that in the updates they added button mapping which I was waiting for, but can you change the fov yet?
I'm so glad I waited I got this game for my birthday on February 18th and loved the setting, characters and gameplay but didn't get far due to the bugs glad I waited it out
Aah nice! Waking up to a new mortim video ❤
I played the game a few month ago in co-op. The biggest problem was getting connectef to my friend (PC to PS5) - for some reason we weren't able to find us, unless at least one of us rebootet their system. Otherwise, I can't remember any issues.
I only made it half way through this game last month, I really enjoyed the original. I didn't stop due to any issues though. This new one though I feel like I'm just running past enemies because they are all the same. I'll pick it back up in a few months to see if I can get back into it.
When the game first came out, I couldn't play multiplayer at all. I tried every day for around 2 weeks. I ended up uninstalling and totally forgot this game was out. Thank you for keeping us updated, I will have to reinstall and try it out.
I'm not sure if it's my initial build, dual short swords and a bow, but I honestly did not have a problem with enemy density like I keep hearing. When they reduced enemy density in one of their patches it really made the game too easy. So I'm very pleased they added an enemy density modifier. Feels like an actual challenge now. I hope with all these updates people give this game a chance cause it deserves so much praise in my opinion. By no means is it Elden Ring but doesn't deserve a lot of the hate this game initially got.
I did enjoy this game a lot. The lag and some bugs and issues did make it way more difficult to finish though. What I was clearly bummed about were the secrets that could break easily (cave, lights if yk what i mean).
I've had since 1 but my backlog was so big I never played now it's somewhat cleared out lol I'm going to give this game a fair shake now
Bought this game little after launch had fun but hit a wall and dropped it and recently picked it back up and after the updates and changes in having a blast 😎😎 kudos to the devs for sticking with it and updating it! Granted probably shouldn't have released how it was but gotta give 'em credit for fixing it and staying with it lot of other companies would have just moved on
Do you have any footage of the stuttering your currently getting?
Just saw this on sale on steam today for 50% off. Was tempted but to see the effort they've put into it i think its now a buy! Hey have you ever played the Surge games? Not Fromsoft quality but still some pretty fun games.
I loved this game at launch, beat it all three endings.
I overlooked this one somehow. I only remember well the 2014 one
So happy I beat this game before they lowered mob density. I loved this game and the challenge it brought.
Game is on sale on Steam and PS5 right now at a bargain. Personally I really like it. It's no masterpiece like Elden Ring, but the classes are fun and the lantern/umbral mechanic is legitimately great. I'd love to see what this dev might do in the future.
I freaking love this game and after the updates it's even better
It's great that they continued to work on improving the game... the issue I have, is that why support games with a D1 buy anymore ?
Quite a few games these days are relesed in a sub optimal state and are improved significantly over the 6 to 12 months after release. I find myself these last few months no longer buying D1 and waiting to pick up the game when it improves..
For anyone like me who was wondering if they can run it, I gave it a shot. I’m playing on High CPU: ryzen 7535 GPU: Rtx 2050. 1TB SSD. It’s been running fine so far I haven’t had any issues and having a great time. Temperatures within safe ranges with cheap laptop cooling pad and fan set to auto
Was hoping this would turn out to be decent in the end. I'll buy this when it hits a sale again. Seems they've done enough to make it worth a buy. Thanks for the review
50% off on steam, jsyk!
@@slothclaws wish I had a decent PC, sadly I'm a console loser 😂. Gave up trying to keep up with PC hardware about 10 years ago. Thanks though man
One of my favorite games of all time!
i just bought this game yesterday played it for about an hr i like it so far 🤓
Is the lock on system still a big issue? I heard about this at the start and it was a big deal breaker for me.
I've noticed the stutter occurs during auto save
Deluxe is 50% off on ps should I get?
Just bought it yesterday... Are you reading my mind Mortim?
Since the launch I was lucky to avoid most of performance issue) just finished 4th playthrough last Monday and then this patch landed! On my way to finish 5th time with ironman and other mods 😂 like the mod and game itself, general opinion remains the same - either you enjoy this game a lot, or leave unimpressed for most of the people.
Will buy it for 10 bucks in deep deep sale maybe, though the prospect of buying a game with major stutters during gameplay doesn't sound enticing at all tbh.
It's the final update, Hexworks already said they're working on the sequel

Personally I loved the game - played on Day 1. I love the parry system and the spellcasting with key bindings. Enemy variety is decent, boss difficulty was kinda low but I enjoyed the bosses. The world was amazing and interconnected almost on the level of DS1 imo.
However, I hate that they added more achievements for the NG+ modifiers... This makes the achievements pointless because you must grind too much for 100% ach and it feels more like just cool stuff you can do and you get achievements for (like Cyberpunk2077) instead of a a game that's supposed to be platinumed which is a bummer
Boss was hard at launch, ik a souls pro struggled at some bosses
@@dijik123 I struggled on Pieta, haha. I forced myself to learn the parry system and to not cheese her with dodges and it took me like 20+ attempts I swear. It's a very forgiving parry but for some reason the timing didn't click fast in my brain. But Elden Ring was also difficult at the beginning to me and once you get the build going everything becomes piece of cake.
@@Abken. The boss fight with the knight on the horse was difficult
I played this game at launch and had a good time. I will admit, though, it was a bit of a mess upon release… esp the PvP/connectivity. Glad to see it’s finally ready for release… 6 mos after its initial release lol. Thanks for the update, much appreciated!
I really enjoyed this game but some trophies are still bugged! I hope they fix this soon cause I'm so close to the platinum
I dont care what anyone says I love this game have 100s of hours in it and enjoy it. Thanks for the review, like the format :)
It’s very frustrating, I have a pretty acceptable pc to even run this game at Ultra in every aspect, but even with low settings and 1080p every two minutes, or when I go through new places, my screen do stuttering for milliseconds, which at the end ruin my experience, because I really want to play this game
Might be an Unreal Engine issue. That traversal stutter is very common in games made with it. Make sure to have it installed on your fastest drive, but still might happen.
thats a fair video thank you.
I’ve only played Elden Ring and Demon souls on PS5. Now that I have a new beefy PC. Should I get this game is it worth my money now?
This game still stutters on my nvidia 4090 to where it's unplayable. No matter what I do. Ran fine when it first came out and after one of the updates it screwed it up. Are their any fixes on this??
IM currently doing Stellar Blade, FF 7 rebirth end game, and Remnant 2 dlc, but I want to go back to this if its fixed. Shit, Dragons Dogma 2 secind playthrough also. Too many good games.
I bought it and beat it a month ago, and enjoyed a lot, my biggest problem was the sponge bosses, never felt OP till end game tbh. Also, I felt the str build was stronger than the fire build of my 2nd run. Not a Dark souls level game, but surely above the average
Rumors of it coming to game pass as well
Good show sir
Playing it atm on series x. It still drops frames quite often but it's not unplayable. It's got some annoying design choices though. If you though fromsoft were vague it has nothing on this. It's probably me but I've definitely had to look up where to go once or twice because I missed a ladder in umbral. Umbral is overused too. Sometimes I just want to explore without constant ad spam and worrying about a reaper. But you never get far without having to switch to umbral again. You are running when you should be creeping.
The enemy spam is crazy at times too.
I am enjoying it though, definitely enough to finish the game.
This game has so many goddamn enemies in it. Was a pain to go anywhere, but still an enjoyable experience for the most part.
Does it run any better on Steam Deck now?
I like the modifier stuff they added. Elden Ring could really learn from this, without having to rely on mod support.
Incredible game
Thanks for the video. Active support for a title is impressive. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
Still no option to turn off the hud?
Ureal engine 5 is a stutterfest.
I played about half way through when the game was new. Got stuck because of the bad game mechanics and instability. I figured I'd come back to it when they patched it up. Sounds like it might be fun now.
If they added a dedicated jump button then I would play it again but as it is no way.
Does anyone know if the loot for coop is still crippled? The promised seemless coop was the main attraction for me, but we never bought it because the non-host got screwed over.
Rumors that it's coming to game pass this month, can't wait
PS5 version runs almost perfectly for a while btw, very rare and short stutters (like 1 or 2) and an overall higher framerate then on Xbox in performance mode. It’s a shame they still couldn’t fix the frequent stuttering while traversing the world on PC and Xbox 😢
To fix the stutters they would need to patch the game engine from UE5.0 to UE5.4 but I dont know if its possible... UE5.4 is much more performant than UE5.0.
The one thing i have issue with is pvp, players with levels in the thousands while with the new update "new" characters are limited to level 541 (99 in each stat), thus with no retro active change to those overleveled players. The devs have essentially doomed new players pvp experience to the overleveled earlier generation characters with no form of matchmaking level structure that I'm aware of. Lastly, the fact the devs say themselves this is the final title update leaves the pvp community at a loss as new players return/pickup the game with this big issue left unresolved which cause further decreases in faith in Hexworks if this issue is left as is. Either remove stat caps as before or patch all base stat values over 99 to 99 to fix this issue. That's all the concerns i have for the game, thanks for reading.
The stash box is broken tho I conot get my vestige seeds and any I loot go straight to stash automatically soo my play through is broken and the items all duplicate when you add them to quick slots soo I have infinite souls
Is the 2023 version a remake of 2014?
I´m asking because I´ve seen both on Steam and the one from 2014 is available for 2,99€ right now.
Sequel, takes place like a hundred years or something after the first
@@MortismalGaming ok thanks
bought the game but have not played it yet when it was on sale/
i find it odd you have performance issues, my pc is not bad, but not "high end" either and it's fine, also it runs well on the steam deck too with capped fps around 50
It's interesting - I love the souls games a lot. I don't know that this game has the same highs that the others do, but I certainly am not getting as frustrated as I do with those games.
Thanks for covering this. I hate this game coz I collected everything but was locked out of armour ! I spent a lot of hours on this game. Some missions I am locked out.
I really enjoyed it
I bet DS1, DS3 and Elden Ring... But somehow I could not get past that very first real Boss Pieta as there was no leveling / weapon upgrade possibillity at all at that time...
Stoped playing then... Is that boss now at least "a bit" easier, then I might retry :D ?
Just bought this from walmart on sale for only $20!
