  • My name is Tammy. I struggle with too many mental issues, lol, but don't we all? On this channel I film most of my struggles, I'm not that open in real life though. I'm not promoting any kind of (eating) disorder, I'm just documenting my life. I'm very hapy to have you Little Lemons accompany me. Thank you SO much!

On top of that, it more expensive to buy the "cleaner" brands. It's better to just get a can of diced tomatoes and add seasonings. We all move convenience though. You have to be careful of added sugars as well in spaghetti sauce. Don't beat yourself up over it though; as long as you are choosing nutrients over convenience a majority of the time. Eating healthy can be time consuming most of the time; this is why I also struggle with eating healthy as well.

@@Flaulicower Absolutely. Breaking our fast from the previous day.. ie break-fast can be done at any time. Our circadian rhythm is important which is why it is important that diurnal animals such as humans eat during the day and rest their digestive system at night and through at least the dark hours of the morning. TRE (time restricted eating) is quite beneficial to us.

100% sweets! Ice cream and chocolate are first on my list. I rarely binge on savory stuff. If I do (sometimes I order fries or pizza) it's because I'm desperate because stores are closed and/or I'm too anxious to leave the house. I have always cheese laying around in my fridge, but it's not a binge food for me. Even if I am desperate and I would eat cheese as part of a binge, I would only eat a small amount of it. Savory just doesn't do it for me.

I was stuck in the same binge cycle as you for over 25 years and no matter what I did nothing worked. 3 years ago I gave in and got gastric bypass and therapy. Today I weigh 140 pounds and my highest weight was almost 400. It was not easy. I had rough days and had to change my entire life. But for me it worked and put an end to my binging for years now. I feel better now at 40 then I did at 20. Surgery is not for everyone. It's extreme. But in my case it was needed. I'm rooting for you no matter what because I feel your pain. I lived the same life.

That would make meals difficult, I can understand why you have sprinkles on toast if you're craving sweets all the time. I feel like it's a bit easier to be a savoury craver. Dieticians mean well.. but just like every other profession. The information is controlled and not designed to help us. Look at the medical field. Of which I'm a "professional". It's designed to keep us sick and coming back for more. I really hope you look into fasting.
When an animal is sick, they will go in the corner and lick their wounds, barely eat, and sleep it off. Thousands of years ago. We didn't eat 3 meals a day. We would eat when we would get the big catch. So sometimes that was not for a couple days. I understand that they say fasting isn't good for people with eating disorders. But this couldn't be further from the truth. It helps to develop healthy eating choices. When I fast I crave all kinds of fruits and vegetables. Twenty years ago when I first lost a bunch of weight with low carb and exercise. I lost my desire for sweets. They tasted fake to me. And really.. most of it is. Hope anyone reading this looks into all the amazing benefits of fasting. How can our bodies heal if we're constantly shoving more crap in it that needs immediate attention.
Our bodies go into autophagy when we fast. Meaning self eating. It will eat up all the stuff that doesn't belong there including cancer cells. Our bodies also will start to produce massive amounts of human growth hormones that reverse aging. Also, people who eat keto are trying to get and keep their bodies in ketosis. So it's mimicking fasting without all the extra added benefits of fasting. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I can't like your comment enough. Regular fasting also helps with chronic pain, healing, and overall health including metabolic health, skin health, etc. As far as ED, someone who binges should definitely work on a goal of TRE (time restricted eating) eventually getting to eating no more than 3 meals a day with snacks being a rare event.
      A few resources I'd recommend:
Dr. Ben Bikman "Why We Get Sick" and also various lectures/ interviews found on youtube.
Dr. Jason Fung "The Diabetes Code", "The Cancer Code", "The Obesity Code" and various lectures/interviews on youtube.

@@AzaleaBee yes! And thank you for the encouragement.. I didn't quite understand what you meant in your final sentence of your first paragraph tho. Can you expound on that?
Cause, for me. I'll only ever eat one meal a day for the rest of my life. Of course there will be instances when I don't. But for the most part and over all it's OMAD for me. Thanks again for the info and encouragement to keep going! I'm actually considering.. well no actually I'm going to do it, doing a very extended, 30 day fast here real soon to try to get rid of some bad habits/addictions. Which fasting also helps with. 🥀

@@springrain9438 This sentence "As far as ED, someone who binges should definitely work on a goal of TRE (Time Restricted Eating) eventually getting to eating three meals a day with snacks being a rare event."
Someone with an ED (Eating disorder) ... needs to approach fasting differently than someone who doesn't. Obviously anyone underweight should not fast. In the case of someone who binges (like Tammy), fasting too much too soon can lead to binging. Even if it doesn't lead to binging it can create unhealthy anxiety about food.
It's good for anyone not used to fasting, to increase their fasting hours gradually. Usually beginning with 10 hours each day then gradually increasing to 12 hours then 14 etc .. but for someone who binges.. focusing on and working toward 3 scheduled daytime meals with no snacking in between reaches the same end but with a different mindset. You are focusing on healthy eating, not fasting which can seem restrictive (in your mind). Of course TRE (Time Restricted Eating.. ie eating during daylight hours not at night) also is a bonus as our circadian rhythm is tied to eating, sleeping, and all the hormones related to both.
OMAD is a hard type of fast.. even harder than extended fasts in my opinion. If it's working for you, all the more power to you. I prefer extended fasts and do them every week but don't usually go more than 72 hours anymore.

@@AzaleaBee Oh completely agree that starting out by increasing fasting hours, leads to success. Also, for anyone else reading this, each fast can be different. With the first one being the hardest as our bodies are detoxing from all the chemical crap we consume. So don't be discouraged when the first couple times can be difficult. It really is like a muscle that gets easier as you go. And I would even argue, like muscle memory as I just recently did a 72. The first in over a year and it was like my body remembered and recognized that what I was doing was ok. It was one of the easiest fasts to date.
I know some people have gone head first and seem to do good. But I think most people would have more success by transitioning into it gradually like you suggest. Started with 16, 8, (pardon me if that's not formatted correctly. It's been so long since I've looked into intermittent fasting and if you don't mind. Let me know how that should be typed. Is it the fasting time as the first number?) where I allowed myself to eat in an 8 hour window, while fasting for 16 hours.
Then to 20, 4 and so on. Also was probably very helpful because I went keto first, to prep my body for less carbs/sugar. Which really IS a drug and why it's found on every corner. I think majority of us women have some type of "eating disorder" and I personally am not a fan of psychiatry, their diagnosis, and especially the drugs, of which they have no idea how they truly work. Nor a way to objectively test them. If one looks into it. It really is just a group of people recognizing signs)symptoms. Then naming them. But that's totally off topic and not what this is about so I apologize.
And thank you for thoroughly explaining that. Love to see other people knowledgeable and encouraging others on this particular, life saving exercise.

@@springrain9438 Absolutely. It is usually written 16:8 (16 hours of fasting, 8 hour eating window out of every 24 hours).
And reducing/ eliminating highly processed foods, particularly carbs certainly does make it easier and more beneficial. I wouldn't start by encouraging someone to begin with 16.. a lot of people sadly have a hard time fasting just 8 hours. I'd tell them to start where they are and increase to get to a 12:12, with the goal for most of us not eat at night and too be minimum 16:8 for sustained body fat loss and/or improved A1C for type 2 diabetics.
I currently fast for pain relief and to stay off prescription pain killers that play with my head and only made me gain weight. After initially losing 80 pounds, I've been able to stabilize my weight (not lose more) while continuing to do multiple extended fasts every week for the past 11 months (it required me to eat when I didn't want to and sometimes more than I wanted..) so now I've given myself the green light to let 10-20 more pounds disappear.
Be kind to yourself. Fast safely.

Even Zweiback would be a word that many Americans would likely recognize particularly older Americans.

Hagelslag are also not ''sprinkles'' we actually have a word for sprinkles in Dutch which is ''spikkels'', and beschuit..the airy things mentioned in the video is again a typical Dutch item that has no translation. I am not sure why she doesn't just call them by what they really are so by their Dutch name say it's a dutch item, describe it a bit if you want, and that's it.

For me one month of strict OMAD (eating once and only once a day including cream in coffee) was the hardest fasting protocol I've tried. Probably not one that someone with an ED should try out right, but if it is working for you I'm really glad to hear it. Would you be more specific in how it is helping you?

Hey Tammy, great to seeing you get better! A little tipp for the pasta sauce: instead of sugar I always use a little bit of baking powder. I just sprinkle it over the sauce in the pan, like 1 Tsp for 4 portions I guess. Then you stir it in, it will bubble and look like a witches potion, but after a minute, it will be fine and taste great.
I wish you all the best!

Im Italian and i say no to baking powder . I don't know why it is needed or what you are attempting to do by adding it ?? But if its to cut bitterness or acid from the tomatoes i have a better solution. Use fresh tomatoes. Or the best canned tomatoes. Never add tomato paste. Like the other commenter suggested adding a carrot or potato cuts bitterness naturally. But i add as many veggies as possible. Sweet bell peppers, sweet yellow onion , mushrooms fresh basil parsley garlic oregano also I add meat to my sauce slow low simmer not all day either. 2 to 3 hrs stirred every 15 min . Before adding anything to the tomatoes. Get a frying pan with the best quality extra virgin olive oil and low low heat . Olive oil is not made for cooking it actually becomes a carcinogen at high heat . Add all the veggies and seasonings prefer fresh but this is absolutely necessary for dry seasoning you just want to warm it not cook it . For a couple of minutes when you smell the aroma you add to the tomatoes. Also my other secret you get a hard rind of parmesan or Romano cheese and that goes in the sauce the entire time you cook it. If you can't get a hard peice of romano adding a cup of the ground parmesan cheese works as well and i guarantee you will not have a bitter sauce. Cooking your meat/ meatballs/ sausage whatever you prefer makes a delicious sauce this is how my Italian family does it my nana taught me she was born in 1929 and im blessed to still have her . Using a combo of fresh tomatoes and tin best quality is something you will always do when you try it once. If you dont like a chunky sauce you can blend it . Or if you dont like veggies and or meat skip and just use herbs and tomato.

I know this day wasn't necessarily a "lose weight day", but I would like to offer some tips. I'm sorry if they're not welcome, but I'm just trying to help.
If you want to lose weight, I would really advise to try to avoid foods that are high in carbs, especially processed sugar. By this, I don't mean to avoid carbs alltogether, like you can still eat brown bread, but just don't cover it with chocolate sprinkles. Also, the crackers probably are much lower in fibre than normal bread, which leaves you unsatisfied. Eating like 5 pieces of bread fills you up way more than those crackers.
It's true that sugar only contains 4 kcal per gram instead of fat which contains 9, but the increase in insulin levels that you induce with sugars has a large effect on storing fat. So I would take care to limit both calories AND processed sugars.
