@@ToasterStud the second you or one of your loved ones has a medical emergency and you suddenly find yourself thousands of dollars in debt you'll understand that sometimes life throws things at you that you weren't prepared for, a lot of the times people getting repoed are pos who knowingly bought something they had no intention of paying for. but a lot of the time its someone who had a decent job and made good money, and something happened and suddenly they have to choose what they can and can't pay. everyone likes to act like an ass until it's their turn to struggle.

I had a car repoed due to an autopay issue. I saw the guy hooking it up, "Anything I can do?", answer was nope I had to call the bank. "Can I grab some things from inside at least?", repo guy had no issue with that. I handed over the key, got some info from the repo guy, and went to go deal with the bank. I had my undamaged car back in a couple days.
My bank, however, took the brunt of my wrath for sending a repo out within a couple days of the payment not going through.
Repo dude isn't the one who effed up my day, he's just doing his job.

Curious, if I "didn't have money to pay for my shit", as you put it, How exactly did I get the car back 48 hours later? How was it I didn't get it repoed again later, right up till the day I sold it to get a different car? Fascinating it's the only time I've encountered the repo process, despite having had a total of 8 cars in my life so far.
The fact alone that “November” needed to stay as anonymous as possible saying “oh yea you need a fake name” while Steve was just like “My name is Steve Garcia and here’s my social media” should tell you EVERYTHING about the two sides of the job. November is definitely scummy and abuses the little power he has.

I recently went through having my car repoed (i paid it out and have ownership now) and the dude was like Steve I think. I needed to blow up a second (at the bank, not him) because i had 9 payments left on that car, counting the lasped ones. He listened, said he understood why i was upset, and helped me unload my tools from the car. Cool guy really.
I think that's the difference. Most people in your situation blow up at the repo guy. If I was getting threats all day and harassment for doing my job, I'd go a little crazy, too.

I bought a brand new 1997 f350 diesel fresh out of high school, paid on it faithfully for 15 months, lost my job... low man on the totem pole. Went to the bank loan manager, explained my situation and paid my monthly payment but was short by 100 dollars, told her I could be in on Monday with the balance, this was a Friday. She put me in for repossession that afternoon, and by Saturday night the repo guy was hunting for the truck. He showed up Sunday evening and I woke up, called the sheriff and they showed up. Sheriff told him he was trespassing because he opened the gate to my property and the repo guy left, promising to catch the truck out in public.
I packed my belongings that night and went to stay with friends over 2 hrs away. The bank eventually gave up, 3 yrs later, repo guy never got the truck, and I still have it 26 yrs later. Still had the bank listed on the title as lien holder and I have to insure it under full coverage 😂but it's mine. It was a poor decision as a kid and I am not proud of it.

I'm a veteran and was in a bad way I told them they could come get my truck, and would give them the keys to drive it off, instead they came at 02:00 am I had my Tanoue cover taken off, my deer stand, and my radio I took out and replaced with the factory radio, my truck was clean inside and out, and had a full tank of gas, I put my stuff inside the screened porch, when they snuck up to my house they also went on my porch and stole the Tanoue cover which I bought on base and deer stand, and radio, left a mess on my porch, and I got a bill for 600.00 to clean it plus they tried to charge me for damages. because my new truck they trashed it, it had mud and crap inside it, I didn't pay a dime, or anything because I had the proof, the repo guy got charged and a huge fine. Their lucky I wasn't home, because I would have probably been in prison and them, well my attitude then was still over there and let's just say they would taking a long nap :) Now I'm a better person, got help, but repoing a Vet straight home from Iraq, and dealing with TBI, and PTSD, and you break into his home and steal his deer stand and stuff........... Not a very smart thing to do, my friend.

I had to deal with a whole company of Novembers. Stole everything inside my car. Car eh I don't care they could take that but everything inside they, according to SD law, were supposed to let me come pick up. Yet they did not. Plus the finance company f*cked me around for the longest time and would not tell me where I could come get my items. I had about two weeks of calling different companies and people before they finally told me whom to contact about my stuff. Then I call them within the allotted time that I could get my items according to law and they had sold everything to auction already. Including my items, or just kept them and refused to tell me ya know. So someone got a car with items in it that were more than the cars worth. And my social security card. So that's nice, good job people like November.

There was a repo driver in Alaska that chased a repo down and the car he was chasing crashed and 3 people died. The repo driver is now serving 30 to life on 3 counts of 2nd degree murder.

they really do get away with everything. you could be hours away from home, miss a single payment and the next day thell hunt you down cause they just dont care about you or your struggles. ive missed one payment on a car and the next day when i got out of work my car was gone. took me 2 weeks to find it, had to buy a bike to ride it an hour and a half back the forth to work and home and when i found it. it was basically totaled. completely ruined. I fought them about it but apparently it was my problem to pick it up and fix it.

Wont stop the car from getting repossessed, but to prevent unauthorized use of your vehicle while it is confiscated, you can wire in a Killswitch and hide it VERY well (under the passenger seat is a good spot)
You could try using a ghetto steering lock (wrapping a huge hardened steel chain around the steering wheel, the handbrake, around the gear shifter to lock it in place, wrapping the rest of the chain around the drivers seat, then locking said chain with huge padlocks that most bolt cutters wouldn't be able to get through
You could buy a heavy duty wheel clamp and fit that to the car as well to prevent unauthorized use
another method would be to go ti the DMV and cancel your vehicle registration (if they drive it, they'll get pulled over and ticketed for driving with an expired tag)
I used to help my brother do repos for Title Max. You get the keys for those so no need for a tow truck most times. One he reploed with a passenger in the car. No, not kidnapping, long story. Another, they got at the gas station. The woman had just filled her tank and went inside to pay. One of us waited in the car with it already cranked, another went inside behind her and signaled the second the gas was paid for. As soon as he got the signal, he took off. He said he wasn't about to risk getting charged for stealing gas and didn't want to cause the station to lose money anyway. You never know where they will spot you. Got an event at your kids school? Found it, got it! At work? Got that sucker! It's crazy the places we found them. I had a vehicle that I told them to come get because I had a 35 gallon tank and Katrina had just hit. I couldn't afford the fuel anymore. They knocked on my door and I handed them the keys. That time I didn't get my title back with Title Max.

I started repoing cars for the buy here pay here car lot I worked at when I was 18. My boss told me to get a carry permit and buy a gun. I was the only unarmed dude that worked there. We sold cars to a lot of criminals and when I wasn't repoing cars, I was doing body and paint work to them. I learned how to weld so I could repair bullet holes in the cars we'd get back. I never drew my gun, but I've had guns pulled on me several times while repoing cars. It was an exciting and scary job.

@@sambrown6426 Remove the fuel pump and siphon from there. No need to try to beat the anti-siphoning device.
After I was rearended I drove it to the body shop who totaled it so I had it taken to another body shop. Insurance company insisted on towing it the second time (since they'd begun removing the bumper and tail lights) the odometer read 30 additional miles after the transfer. (The body shops were maybe 5-10 miles apart, and it was "towed")
I seen a f150 get hooked up by a repo truck from the front. The f150 pulled the repo truck through the mall parking lot in reverse with tires smoking and the repo man standing on the brakes.🤣

I get the need of being able to repo cars, but its a scummy industry. I mean one of these guys admitted multiple times to breaking laws regarding repos. At that point you're just a thief with a business card.
Dudes def sketch and should prob be looked into about his business practice but doesnt make him a thief. They are hired to get the cars back by the actual owner because the people in possession of it refused to pay their bill(the actual thief). They arnt taking the cars and putting them in their personal collection.

I suppose the point I was trying to make is that vehicle repo is one of those professions where the line between legal and illegal can be quite thin and when you start ignoring or breaking the laws regarding it you become indistinguishable from a criminal who does the same action. I think the reason I wrote thief is because when I think of a criminal who is doing those actions the first thing that comes to mind is thief.
