Gosau lake is a small mountain lake, embedded in beautiful nature with a view of the Dachstein mountains! This small mountain lake, which has a preservation order, has been made famous not only because of its outstanding natural beauty, but also because of its clear, cold water which is suitable as drinking water. Gosau Lake is nestled amongst the highest mountains of the Salzkammergut. The world traveller and naturalist Alexander Freiherr von Humboldt was overwhelmed by the beauty of the lake and its crowning glory, the "mighty towers of the Dachstein", and described it in his works as "the eye of God".
Gosau, Austria is situated along the Gosaubach stream in the Salzkammergut region. The center of the town is at an elevation of 767 metres (2,516 ft). and 58.9% of the municipality is forested.
Gosauseen are three lakes in the south-western, Alpine part of Upper Austria. They are situated near the town of Gosau, which is close to Salzburg. The mountains that encircle the lakes are called the Dachstein Mountains, whose glaciers partially shaped the landforms and still influence the hydrology of the area.

Well I had to introduce those cows and their antics. Gosausee certainly is a stunning place and at least the weather allowed me one day to explore what I really wanted to. Always got to get up on the cable car for the views up high and you don't tend to get the beer stops in the UK mountains. Making the most of that. The cows were following me. Awe cutest opening ever with those cows following you! Wow, Austria is truly breathtaking. Sorry the weather wasn't perfect for your visit, but wow it still looks so stunning. I love the little water falls streaming down, such a beautiful sound. The little Alpine house looks picture perfect. The lakes are so beautiful. But the views from ascending up the cable car, wow!! I love the clouds along the mountain tops, it turned into some bright blue skies too! Chili and a beer sounds perfect for your adventure. Lovely view points and the cows are so cute, love seeing him scratch him chin haha! The descend down is just as stunning. Amazing tour as always :) Thanks for bringing us along!
Sorry about the late reply I've been away out in the big hills hiking. Those cows were pretty funny. This part of the Austrian Alps was a great place to explore and quite stunning. How wonderful to see you back in the mountains proper Paul. The lakes,together with the mountain as a backdrop looked superb and with all the recent rain and water gushing down the mountainside everywhere looked so beautiful & lush. Even with the go pro you have the knack of capturing that special view often framed by trees or positioned perfectly amongst the mountains or little huts adding a point of interest or perspective. Via ferrata ... scary but exciting 😨. But then that cable car ride ... wow ...I don't generally go for "long distance" views but from the viewing platform were absolutely awesome Did you feel like ducking with that helicopter swooping around your head haha 😃. The views got even better on you way back to the cable car station ... like you I wouldn't have wanted to leave & you sounded quite sad at the thought of it 😟 Those ladies must have cheered you up ... funny how they all had beautiful kind friendly faces though over here often seem so threatening ... absolutely love those bells though. Well done another cracker 😊
Well this is really the type of thing I wanted to do in the area and not salt mines! Of course I took many photos on my way around the lake and up in the mountains. The person on the via ferrata didn't look comfortable up there. Got to get up on the cable car. The views into the Gosau valley and of Gosau lake were stunning. How can you not go for that. Well I was quite sad as I knew it was my last mountain views for a while. I think I need to win the lottery so I can just travel when I want. Hi Tracy, Gosausee certainly is quite stunning and this was another memorable day out. The views from up high I could never get tired of. I love hearing the cow bells too and one seemed to take a shine to me 😂 The chilli and the beer went down a treat. Hi Ms Kayak, well it was kind of 2 half trips in one. The weather killed my full plans. Many people don't like cable cars but I love them for the views they tend to offer. The vistas are spectacular, especially as the clouds drift across the tops and the high mist swirls. Very very atmospheric.

Hi Dave, I was just glad to get one half decent day in the area. This was at the end of August and the beginning of September. I think I just unlucky but did get stunning weather the week before. I may have to return one day to do the trips I missed out on. However this was still a memorable day by the lake and up the mountains. It was just what I needed. I sure could do with it right now. @@NBNatureTrailvan it's supposed to be one of the best months weather wise. I just got unlucky for 3 of the days. It was glorious sunshine the day I was leaving which didn't help my mood!
What camera do you use and do you use a stabilizer? Your video footage is beautiful! Hope you don’t mind me asking. Beautiful hike and beautiful views from cable car and top!
This was filmed with a GoPro 11 in 4k @ 60fps. The camera has inbuilt stabilisation software but I'm also pretty steady with it. I'm glad you enjoyed the views I managed to capture with it. Gosausee in the Austrian Alps certainly is beautiful. Thank you very much for watching 🙂👍Paul
