  • Lake Gosau is one of the most beautiful lakes in Austria. It is located in Gosau in Upper Austria. If you are not driving, you can take bus 542 to Lake Gosau. Lake Gosau is the last bus stop. The bus ride takes about an hour from Bad Ischl.
    There are no boat tours. You can walk along the lake to reach all the way to Upper Lake Gosau (Vorderer Gosausee). No bikes allowed. The hike takes about 2 hours one way. There is also a small lake along the way called Gosaulacke. At the end of the hiking trail, there is a small cafeteria called “Holzmeister Alm” which is a few steps away from the upper lake.
    After you finish your roundtrip hike, you can have a nice dinner at Gasthof Gosausee. The outdoor dining area offers a gorgeous view of Lake Gosau.
    Before you start your Gosausee hike, I recommend you take Gosaukamm cable car to go up and explore Zwieselalm mountain. There are 2 cafeterias at the top of the mountain; (Breining Hütte and Gablonzer Hütte).

      Thank you. Yes, watch out for cows if you do this hike. May is a good month to visit Austria. I filmed many videos in that region. Enjoy your trip!

    Cattle can be deadly, especially when there are young calves around, which the mother cows fiercely protect. They will easily outrun you, and they weigh ten times your weight or more (500 to 800 kg for a female, up to 1200 kg for a bull), and their bodies consist mostly of muscles.
    One thrust with a horn - or the massive skull - to your head or your thorax, then trampling on you ... and R.I.P.
    Sadly this happens quite often.

      Thank you for the valuable information. I learned my lesson from that incident, and it took nearly a year for my knee to recover from the injury.

      @@WandererBell It is good to read that you are well again.
      It is important that every tourist who comes into contact with free-roaming cattle, which is very often the case in the Austrian alps, knows what I wrote above. We are experiencing far too many lethal ecounters of hikers with cattle in the last years. Cattle always win.
      Short summary: Cattle with young ones mean red alert to hikers! Be especially careful, don´t go near a calf, dont´t touch any animal, don't stare at animals, try to distance yourself as quietly and fast as possible. Usually, cattle are peaceful animals, and nothing at all will happen.
      One more thing: cattle hate dogs. If you or someone in the near have a dog on a leash, they will associate the dog with you and mercilessly attack you (and your dog). They will eventually kill you, as long as they feel threatened by you or your dog.
      In Austria we have one such lethal case every 6 months or so. Mostly tourists from Germany. The only thing to do when cattle attacks your dog: let the dog off the leash asap. Cattle cannot outrun a dog. Then remove yourself as speedily as possible from the scene. Your dog won´t be harmed, unless he is really stupid. But usually only humans are really stupid.

    Hi Thanks for sharing this video. I am planning to travel to lake GOSAUSEE with kids from Salzburg. Please suggest which bus to take and does the bus stop in front of the lake? Also what will be the name of the bus stop? Is it good time to visit in May?

    • @WandererBell
      @WandererBell  Před rokem

      Gosausee is too far from Salzburg. You will spend about 2 and a half hours on the bus to get there. You take bus 150 from Salzburg to Bad Ischl for about an hour and a half and then you switch at Bad Ischl to Bus 542 to Gosausee. The bus stop for Gosausee is the final bus stop where everybody has to get off the bus. The month of May is a good time to visit that region, but you will have to be prepared for the rain.

      @@WandererBell Is the Gosausee bus stop closer to the lake? If not how much distance do we need to hike or walk?

    • @WandererBell
      @WandererBell  Před rokem

      The bus stop is about a 5-minute walk to the lake entrance.

    Cable cars are closed in December. Can I still find hikes?

    • @WandererBell
      @WandererBell  Před 7 měsíci +1

      The hike to the upper lake might also be closed, but main lake is just a few steps away from the bus stop. You don't need to hike to get to the main lake. Winter season is not a good time to enjoy the nature in Europe.

    • @kelvinyschun
      @kelvinyschun Před 7 měsíci +1

      @WandererBell I arrived to Lake and full of snow and ice. I walk around the lake and the bus stop change drop off point to Panorama ski lift which adds 20 minutes each way.

    • @WandererBell
      @WandererBell  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I think the best time to visit this region is early September to early October when all places are open with less crowd. Winter time is challenging but the snow also offers great scenery.
