We married in 1972 but hadn’t the money for a fancy honeymoon so toured the West Country of England.
We did manage trips to Austria the following three years before our firstborn arrive.
The first two were by coach across Europe and the last flying into Munich and a coach to our destination.
In 1973 we were based in Mattsee in the Salzkammergut, one of the optional trips was either a trip to the local salt mines or a mystery tour, we chose the latter.
This turned out to be a ride on the Untersbergbahn, a truly jaw dropping experience, my wife who wasn’t a fan of heights didn’t like the trip but loved the views when on solid ground at the top.
Things have changed a bit after almost 50 years but I remember the restaurant where we had Wiener Schnitzel and a flower root Schnapps, we were in cloud when we arrived but after the snack it had cleared and we had fantastic views, we watched a small aircraft fly over and land at Saltsburg airport.
We walked up the path to the cross and have a have a photo of us sat at the base, we also picked up a piece of Unterberg marble which is on display to this day.
    Thanks for rekindling fond memories.

While on holidays in St Johann in Austria we did a cable car trip from Soll up one side of the mountain and came back down the other side to hopfgarten on the other side. Bus to Sol and train back to St Johann. We used a local tourist card which covered transport and cable cars. Also some great cable cars in and around Mayrhofen.

Been in Austria almost on every Summer last 15 Years and ridden all kind of cable cars and lifts. Still worth of mention is Ischgl - Samnaun done by several different kinds of lifts. There You have cabin, chair and twin liner with one looooong cable car journey! And scenery changes are also spectacular! Because it takes a couple of hours per direction; for a day trip You must start in the morning to have some time at Samnaun village too.
Another, a bit different kind of cable car, is at St. Anton am Arlberg when going to Valluga. Valluga II is one to try! Built in 1955 and still operating as it was done with cabin of six persons. Up there scenery is also one of a kind at that area! Highly recommended!
And last panoramabahns at Montafon.. at Schruns and in Brand. One in Schruns is operating at winter, but one over the gorge at Brand is open also in Summer and it's one different kind. So many great lifts to try!
One huge experience, which nowadays have been replaced with condola, was at Sölden; one person chair lift with feeling flying over the clouds because optic illusion... the valley on other side is hundreds of meters lower and even You are going about 5-10 meters above surface it just made ones brain to think You're over the clouds! Had to close my eyes for a moment. ;)

A nice hike is to continue toward the Berchtesgardner Hochthron to a junction with a trail that branches off to the left and continues through tunnels to the Schellenberger Ice Caves.. From there one can continue down to the road and walk back to St Leonhard via the Hangendenstein border crossing, or cross over the Schellenberger Sattel to a long stone stairway back to ground level at Glanegg, where we caught a Marazeck bus back to Salzburg.

The best cable car I have been on is the Cairns to Kuranda cable car (actually a series of 3 cable cars) in Queensland, Australia. The interesting thing about this is that you can get the cable cars in one direction and then the much longer but equally stunning train trip in the other direction.

Pas le choix, j'en ai utilisé seulement un, le Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway, dans l'état du New Hampshire, USA. Construit en 1979 par Agudio.
