    Why are you pulling the carbine off your shoulder to run the lever?

    • @erichall7253
      @erichall7253 Před měsícem +7

      Bingo. I own 10 lever guns of various calibers and brands, along with the “tactical” other side of my collection. It seems our presenter has little experience with lever guns? At worst, some of the Rossis with extremely stiff, crude actions and slick metal butt plates may need to be pulled off the shoulder. Otherwise, you are correct. I wonder what his business relationship is with Henry. I own two Henrys and had to send them both back for quality control issues, one five times until they provided a full warranty replacement. I enjoy these rifles/carbines now, and Henry customer service is very responsive and supportive. One is a Big Boy, 357 All-Weather, the other a Big Boy Steel 44 magnum, the one I had all the quality control issues with. Even the brand new warranty replacement they sent me, locked up so bad right out of the box that I couldn’t even clear it. They sent me another, and that one runs sweet. Just the voice of my experience for what it is worth.

    Lever guns are fun. In rifle form, .357 magnum offers reasonable power and relatively gentle recoil. It's fine for deer at iron-sight distances. It also pairs well with a revolver. Sure, fun or novelty might be a factor for some of us but in more restrictive states, lever guns might be the best option.

    You really need to run the gun from your shoulder. Press it to the shoulder with your support hand and cycle the action. With handgun calibers you should be able to keep your cheek weld, with 3030 or 4570 you may need to raise your head but the stock stays on the shoulder. Just like a pump shotgun you chamber a fresh round immediately upon firing. Like a shotgun you top up at any opportunity.
    Just practice. My grandfather taught me this when I was 12 so I’m pretty sure you can do it too. People are so used to semi automatic guns that they pay no attention to using older weapons.

    I've had a lever action in .44 magnum paired with my revolver chambered in the same. Both have performed w/o complaint or failure in the decades I've taken them in the field, and I'd trust each with my life. Just because something (Or it's 'Action/Platform') is old, doesn't mean it isn't effective.

    As a man matures he grows to have respect for revolvers and lever guns. Yes, revolvers and lever guns can be used for self defense. But that doesn't mean a new aficionado will retire the AR, AK or auto pistol. It just means fun is expanded at the range and while hunting.
    It makes a great truck gun, as it's not "pretty" like Henry's other offerings.

    So here's a question for you to ask. Henry, why don't they make a lever action in 45 Long Colt like other manufacturers have? That shoots 45 long coat, 454 casull, 460 Smith& Wesson Magnum? Or is that not a viable option configuration?

    Those are amazing suppressor hosts because there is no port pop. I have tried the 44mag version with the Rugged Obsidian and the DA Primal; they both sounded like a paintball gun. Using a gun mounted camera, you can hear the hammer drop, then a doink sound from the shot, and bullet impact.

    That might be an excellent choice for hunting on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state where I live. The weather during hunting season tends to be very soggy, warping the wooden stocks of long guns generally. And in the thick forest cover here, most shots are within 100 yards anyway.

    14" LOP with no way to adjust it in 2024 is a fail. That's especially true for smaller shooters. It's one reason why you see people pull the gun off their shoulder to work the action. In many videos of people shooting these guns, you can clearly see that the gun does not fit the shooter properly. Shooting a rifle that does not fit is like running a marathon in shoes that are 2 sizes too big. Some people have never shot a properly fitted gun, and don't even know. Ruger put a very simple set of stacked spacers on their PC 9. That's a cheap and easy way to make plastic stocks usable. For the price of modern guns, I want the ability to fit the rifle, or I'm not buying it.

    I am 64. A veteran. An NRA Life Member and big hunter. I think that making a lever action with “tactical” features is silly! You might as well put those features on a muzzleloader. I have flintlocks, bolt actions, pumps, lever actions, and semi autos. Because of my service I don’t have an M-14 or M-16 type. However I do have a mini-30. All firearms are great to have fun with. But if you ever need one for personal defense, and I hope you don’t, use the best thing you can get. A used AR is very inexpensive. 30 rounds and it works! I love Revolvers. I used them in competition for years. In my nightstand? A Glock 41. 14 Federal 230 HST’s and a TR1 attached. The right tool for the job. Choose wisely. Good video. That young lady will show you how to keep a lever mounted when you use (run) it! Thanks! Vince
