You asked for it, YOU GOT IT! After a year of procrastination, IT'S HERE Ft. Music by Patricia Taxxon: patriciataxxon.bandcamp.com/ My Twitter: / hbomberguy My Patreon: / hbomb My Twitch: / hbomberguy
I've come to watch this video twice now, hyped for HBomb's in-depth analysis on Skyrim... "Oh, I don't remember him saying all that much, I must have fallen asleep or something, let's rewatch it."
This video upset me. Not because you bad-mouthed Skyrim, and not even because you bamboozled me. No, Im upset because I put this video on as a sort of podcast-type thing while I have a shower and after 1 minute of a convincingly real start to what I believed would be an in depth argument about long load screens and excessive ports (among other things), I put my whole body in the prison of running water. It was then that I realised I had been duped, bamboozled, smeckledorfed even. It was too late. I committed to the poppy upbeat song that befell my ears and accepted my fate... for I am a fool. I am a fool, and, as it turns out, this is the day for me.
If I'm being honest, 24:34 helped me realize why I personally couldn't enjoy skyrim. With help from a therapist over the last several months, I'm proud to say that I've overcome my failings as a player of video games and am now unable to stop playing.
28:00 There's a spike in the most-viewed heatmap on the progress bar for no discernable reason here. It really is nothing, but if people click on this timestamp to see what I'm talking about, it will self-reinforce and this spike could grow higher than the others. Also in case anyone's wondering which music by Patricia Taxxon is in this video, I found it. It's called "Winter Beats" and it appears to an album/track that is just one 37 minute long song.
Lol, I do that all the time. I will be watching a video like this and think of some comment to post. Then when I go to the comment section I see I posted the exact thing three years ago. I mean, his negative opinion on any game shouldn't have any bearing at all, in the slightest, on how you feel about the game. He calls Fallout 3 "garbage" unironically, but IMO Fallout 3 is one best open world action RPGs ever made and is one of the reasons why I always keep coming back to Bethesda. He made some valid points in his video, but the things that bother him don't necessarily bother me as well. People like PatricianTV make a literal 20 hour long analysis video and rant at length about the shortcomings of Skyrims story and gameplay and yet they still spent hundreds of hours playing the game. If a game really is shit, it wouldn't be worth your time going over ever single excruciating detail and picking apart each and every flaw one by one. You can literally do that with any peice of content ever made and then come to the conclusion that it's "shit".

I kept thinking "Wow he's really commiting to this bit for a long time." Took me a solid three minutes before I decided to skip foward and realize what the deal was and checked the date.

There's a starman waiting in the sky Hey dude, I see you everywhere! Talking Heads videos, Fantano videos, Bowie videos, and now even here! Nice username, btw
The best thing about oblivion's opening is that after sitting through it with a character named "DO NOT DELETE" you can save the game right before leaving and have the option to remake your character right before entering the open world.
I named an Oblivion end-of-sewers character "Trump" after listening to a rap song with his name in it in 2014 and then when I opened I loaded saves from a backup recently I thought for a second that recent years had somehow entered into Oblivion and corrupted it. Ironically it's a heavily modded catgirl who's purpose is to placehold the settings for having a cute catgirl face.
This was the one saving grace to all of bethesda's boring ass intros. Then for some fuckin' reason they don't give you the opportunity to do this in starfield.
Opening monologue ends at 3:35. Spoiler alert: He gets into the core flaws of vanilla Skyrim, specifically the lack of storytelling strength due to the nature of open world games, the inconsistent levels of immersion due to the game’s design, development and world-building, and the rampant levels of bugs and unpatched features unaddressed after over 6 years, as well as Bethesda’s seeming refusal to replace the engine in the Special Edition and its poor implementation of its Creation Club.
It's September 2019. I clicked on this video because it was in my recommended after I watched and enjoyed the Fallout 3 video. I watched the first 2 minutes about the long introduction and constant rereleasing. I saw him get up and leave and thought, hmm, people usually do this bit and go "BUT WAIT" and talk about more issues. But as the names were slowly scrolling, I scrolled down just a tad to take a look at the top comment, and went "....Oh", then I looked at the date of release and went "Ohhhhhh". Then I looked at the frame preview for the other 40 minutes of video and went "OH YOU FUCKER"
@@yourik.1260 Aw man i was so excited to see my childhood hero Five Time World Heavyweight Champion Patrick The Breezy P Finnigan had donated to hbomb too, that's disappointing :/
i mean it’d actually be pretty funny if he just released this same video again next year but made the green screen some generic windows background of water
About once a year I click on this forgetting the joke going, "Oh yeah, I don't remember what he had to say about Skyrim.... Oh.... Yeah... That's right..."
Here is my review. I get this is a joke but I honestly don't get why people like this game. I'm a big fan of open world games, flashy games, power fantasies like Morrowind or character driven RPG's so I'm definitely the target demographic, but I refuse to believe so many are so gullible as to still think this game is good after so long. Everyone looks at those who hate or criticize the game like hipsters instead of trying to think critically about it like they don't want the illusion broken. The game is all flash and graphics with no choice or substance, no deep combat, no deeper meaning or statement, not even philosophical pandering or posturing. The only thing it did was be the first to have a free-roam open world that didn't have glaring restrictions all over. Skyrim is basically a pandering popcorn flick a'la Michal Bay but with a fantasy skin slapped on. Simple flashy spells and a cliche landscape as wide as an ocean but deep as a puddle. I think the only thing that's carried Skyrim was it's moders, good music and insane marketing to keep the hype alive. I loved their old games when you could tell they were trying to give you a unique experience with a deeper intrinsic value and meaning they were trying to communicate, be it about war, the human spirit, the hypocrisies and danger in America's patriotic culture, the flaws of capitalistic societies, the nature of adventure and lust for it in everyone, or just the desire to be important. Every game Bethesda has made just keep getting worse and more hollow, losing all meaning until they are glorified tech demos full of bugs... and Fallout 4 was everything wrong with Skyrim a dozen times over. Just gather, explore, combat and repeat, with dialogue that could have been written by a child. Great story, it's like they are just giving lip service to the idea of having integrity and meaning while trying to be hack'n slash/shooters but failing miserably at it. We should hold them to a higher standard, read any novel at all and you will feel your time was better spent. Play god of war or something if you want combat and high fantasy, play silent hill if you want atmosphere, play COD or BorderLands if you like shooters. Anything Skyrim and Fallout 4 do countless others do better. Skyrim is a first, but it's a jack of all trades yet a failure at all of them. That is why Skyrim is trash.
Yes but I.could criticize any game today for by breaking down it’s key, bare bones ideas and gameplay elements. Whether u enjoy it or not, the game was great for its time, and sure it hasn’t aged well but does mean it ithat it’s somehow gotten worse. I think the game has a charm to it, and frankly I have no idea what that it but it has kept my playing to this day and no amount of critizing it’s “shallow combat” etc will take that charm away
Once the credits started rolling I just kept waiting for the punch line, and eventually I zoned out for a couple minutes only to see the credits were still slowly scrolling up. Then I realized what day it is, even though I already knew what day.
What I've noted is that there is this weird tendency in Bethesda games to make the world feel dead. I can usually identify someone playing something immediately because the world feels fake. It's just something about the design or the feel that always put me off. I played Fallout 4 and enjoyed it up to a point, then the world started to feel like a empty carnival. Same things, same stuff to do, on repeat and no one was there but me. The NPC's all suffer from this weird empty feeling in their expressions and eyes. I don't know HOW they do that, considering the amount of people that work on design and graphics alone and that it's probably not even all the same people for every game, but it's a consistent feel and look and feel. Dead carnival. I know I'm not the only one either, but a lot of people don't see it.
The most annoying part of this is when I realized this was an April Fool's prank my hands were already soaking wet from doing dirty dishes. Luckily the music was lovely, so I didn't bother trying to turn it off but still. I was hurt. 😂😂😂
I can't believed I never noticed this video while scrolling through your channel. It's like my mind couldn't comprehend it and just skipped over it every time I laid eyes upon the title. Now I am awake and I have to deal with this reality.
i really liked that part of the video where you talked about how pointless the civil war is and how the only thing it changes is what color the guard's uniforms are and which boring puppet sits on the throne of each city saying the exact same thing. i also really dug how you clearly pointed out every single guild questline was exactly the same; where it followed all the same exact beats and plot points as all the others and how in the end there was absolutely no impact on the world for being the master of every guild. that's the hard hitting and incisive commentary i subscribed for!
"i really liked that part of the video where you talked about how pointless the civil war is and how the only thing it changes is what color the guard's uniforms are and which boring puppet sits on the throne of each city saying the exact same thing." You mean like 99% of all actual civil wars?
Okay, so I realized this was an April fools joke a couple days ago, (bc I'm new and have been binging) and so after the bloodborne and dark souls 2 vids I listened to during work tonight i was like, ya know, ive got about an hour left, lets listen to the skyrim fools credit music bc that sounds like fun. I took a smoke break and decided to see how everyone else felt and that last time stamp killed me. And I have to thank you for that bc I was about to switch over to my own music. Like it has legit destroyed me and I would prolly never have known. Harris is rediculous and youre lovely for being the only to point it out to me.
I like all the Elder scrolls games, but it seems really silly to talk about this like it's a question of 'good' vs. 'bad.' There are many things that people love and hate about the game. For my part, and this is only speaking objectively, it failed to live up to the mechanical complexity of the previous two entries in the series. It was sorely lacking in depth, comparatively, and suffered because of it. This turned what was an RPG into essentially an action game. You just decide what you want to do, those skills level up, and no matter what choices you made you'll be pretty successful. (unless of course you decide to do a challenge run, like unarmed combat only) It mainstreamed what was until then, even among Oblivion players, a niche deep RPG experience. And then there are the many common complaints about bugs, voice acting, bad character faces, etc. But that's just par for the course in these games, everyone complains about that stuff.
It's not secretly terrible, it's open with its terribleness. You have striking gameplay such as "use right or left hand" tons of character building opportunities such as "do you want to kill things with sword, magic, or bows". No characters of note, a shit story, boring "walk straight" dungeons, and a disjointed mess of a world. Skyrim was built for the ground up by and for casuals. If you like it go ahead but don't pretend it's anything more than the gaming equivalent of a mcdonalds meal.
@@libenhagos9335 "Casual" doesn't equal "bad". Hell, "complex" doesn't necessarily equal "good" either. I like strategical depth in strategy games, but I've tried to get into the older Elser Scrolls games and while they aren't bad, the character advancement is so abstract it breaks the immersion.
Same, this video keeps popping up in the recommended videos to the side when I'm re-watching old Hbomber videos. And every time I think _"Oh cool, I don't really remember that one. Let's watch it."_ And then I remember.
I generally hate April fools jokes, because they're so goddamned obvious and they just make me wish the was actual content. But, despite being obvious, I like this video because my name was on screen for 56 seconds.

So um. It's been a year, and I waited patiently. Even a couple of days after April Fool's day, expecting a re-release of this exact video with better water textures....I'm sad to say I am now disappointed that you didn't follow through with your promise. I'm not angry...I'm just disappointed.

I actually like the long openings in Skyrim and fallout 3. In fact, I sometimes restart the game just to experience them again.
The best thing about oblivion's opening is that after sitting through it with a character named "DO NOT DELETE" you can save the game right before leaving and have the option to remake your character right before entering the open world.
This
I named an Oblivion end-of-sewers character "Trump" after listening to a rap song with his name in it in 2014 and then when I opened I loaded saves from a backup recently I thought for a second that recent years had somehow entered into Oblivion and corrupted it. Ironically it's a heavily modded catgirl who's purpose is to placehold the settings for having a cute catgirl face.
Yeah but you can do the same with Skyrim. Drop down to save right before what's his noodle says "and who are you"
@@TehKazlehoff Still leaves you with like 10-15 mins of opening, would've been best if there was a pop-up before you leave the cave like in F04
Okay I know this is a joke comment but you don’t just “replace” a game engine

And then you watched it till the end anyway because the music is genuinely good.
oh goddamn it i had a bowl of rice ready and everything
end credits is Winter Beats by Patricia Taxxon

About once a year I click on this forgetting the joke going, "Oh yeah, I don't remember what he had to say about Skyrim.... Oh.... Yeah... That's right..."
Came for the review.
Stayed for the new fuckin water textures.
+Kushy how do u like comments on android there's no sign
Once the credits started rolling I just kept waiting for the punch line, and eventually I zoned out for a couple minutes only to see the credits were still slowly scrolling up. Then I realized what day it is, even though I already knew what day.
how dare you, i was excited to hear about how an almost decade old game that ive never played was bad :(
What I've noted is that there is this weird tendency in Bethesda games to make the world feel dead.
Me and my husband watching this: "did he... Is this just credits for 35 mins? Oh my God it is just credits"

i really liked that part of the video where you talked about how pointless the civil war is and how the only thing it changes is what color the guard's uniforms are and which boring puppet sits on the throne of each city saying the exact same thing.
i also really dug how you clearly pointed out every single guild questline was exactly the same; where it followed all the same exact beats and plot points as all the others and how in the end there was absolutely no impact on the world for being the master of every guild. that's the hard hitting and incisive commentary i subscribed for!

*"Why would you say something so controversial, yet so brave?"*
Aurora lol cry more. there is tons of reason its bad you just need to to not subconsciously block it all out
I like all the Elder scrolls games, but it seems really silly to talk about this like it's a question of 'good' vs.
(unless of course you decide to do a challenge run, like unarmed combat only)
It mainstreamed what was until then, even among Oblivion players, a niche deep RPG experience.
And then there are the many common complaints about bugs, voice acting, bad character faces, etc. But that's just par for the course in these games, everyone complains about that stuff.
skyrims is the same
It's not secretly terrible, it's open with its terribleness.
