Great Video and great help. We put up 5 ring pros wired units around the house, the sensitivity is great, the light is great when walking around at night, the video has a much improved wide angle and clarity. I like that i could turn off the audible chimes on some of the camera but can still have them recording events. Nice to quickly talk to people in the yard if i am inside or away from the house. REmoved our old security cameras and much happier with this solution. Even put on up in a tree in the back yard was able to get wifi coverage to the tree and all is well.

I just ordered three of the USB-C plug in adapters for the Ring Spotlight Pro’s. They work really well, no more having to worry about cloudy days with the solar panel and motion detection is much more spot on, plus an actual pre-roll not the low resolution one. I like how the lights on it are dusk to dawn now if I wanted!

Thank you for this informative video. Getting this level of clarity out of Ring is pretty much non-existent.
I was wondering if the spotlight cam wired pro would use its battery compartment as a backup source if the electrical supply got cut off (and it apparently does). That would make sense, especially because I’m sure many times these may get put in place of an existing light fixture that has a switched circuit.

One question ...when installed as a ceiling mount, there is an opening at the top which has the possibility for insects, dirt, etc. to sit against the back of the unit where the electrical connection is located. It is not an issue for a wall mount since the opening is at the bottom. Any worries about this?

I would like to install several hardwired outdoor WiFi cameras around my house. I'd like to install them right over a 120V junction box, like you do in this video with the Ring Spotlight Cam together with the Ring Hardwired Kit for the Spotlight Cam Plus and Pro. I don't want a floodlight camera, because they are just too big for my purposes. As far as I can tell from searching the Internet, the option you describe in this video (Ring Spotlight Cam Plus or Pro together with the Hardwired Kit) is the only non-floodlight WiFi hardwired camera on the market that installs right over a 120V junction box. Do you know of any other non-floodlight WiFi hardwired camera that does this? If not, I'll buy several of these, but I'd love to know if there are any other options on the market. Thanks for your help, and your videos are outstanding!

This hardwired kit for the Ring Spotlight Cam is such a good idea, and it's so clean. As you point out in the video, the kit embeds a USB-C AC-to-DC adapter right into the junction box. Could this same idea be used with cameras that don't offer a hardwired kit, like Tapo cameras? Online, there are many companies that sell waterproof 12V DC power adapters (for LED lighting) that fit into junction boxes - search for "DC 12V LED Power Supply Driver Transformer." (Even though Tapo cameras ship with a 9V DC adapter, many people online have remarked that they use 12V DC power with Tapo cameras and have no issues.) If this sounds like a good idea to you, I wonder if you might consider making a WiFi camera installation video for clean hardwired installation of other WiFi cameras, using a 12V DC power adapters that fit into a junction box?

  • @MrGolfPants

    Good review.
For the hardwire kit, did you notice if you could rotate the post (with the USB-C port) so that it points the opposite way it was shipped? In other words, for a wall mount situation, to slide the camera on the post and then rotate that post 180 degrees (would be a touch better for me).
…I tried doing it and broke it. Wasn’t sure if that little screw mattered (to loosen the ball joint so it would work), if this was cheap material, or if I just broke it because I pushed it past it’s available range of motion.
