      I will try stick up because I have motion sensor lights next to it. Forget Arlo. It's junk. Too many false triggers even if the sensitivity is all the way down. Doen not happen with the Ring.

      Spotlight has far better features and performance as well as more for the money. If you want a cheap camera and are not using it for security and safety then stick up. If you want a security camera with long battery light, motion sensor, spot lights and siren then...no brainer...get the Spotlight. At night stick up camera will not be visible or alert home invader. They will continue to try to break in. With stick up all you can do is record the crime. Spotlight will shine light on the intruder....notify you and then you can blast him with the siren. Understand....the light alone will deter 99.9% of bad guys. Surprisingly...like the host...some may want a camera only to document the crime...not stop it.

    The SuC can’t be mounted upside down.
    You need to purchase an additional ceiling mount, to enable it to hang down (the right way up) as there is no s/w option to rotate the picture when upside down. SuC also has an alarm button, it’s bottom right of the cam picture (it just doesn’t say siren, it’s the ((!)) button) and can be linked to the ring security hub to sound when the home alarm is triggered.

    This is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for the in-depth explanation and demonstration! The Ring Spotlight Cam is what I'll go with because the spotlights for color at night really sold me on it! The addition of a built-in alarm is nice too! Coming from Google Nest cameras, there is definitely a major dip in video and audio quality. The ghosting that was present on both Ring cameras was strange too. With that said, I've heard rumors that the Google Nest cameras may be being discontinued and they don't offer the large variety of accessories and other products like Ring does. Sub and Like added! Keep the excellent content coming!

      I bought 3 stickup cams in March of 2022 (all for indoor use). One day I notice when I'm in "live view" on any of them it says at the bottom (a little to the right) it says "Siren Off" with a slash through it. When I tap that button the siren goes off. I did it on all 3 and it works. When I first noticed it I thought "Was this here the entire time and I never noticed?" But either way - I have a siren on all 3 stickup cams but I have to tap the button to activate. I don't believe I can set it up to go off whenever it detects motion. I'm going to get a 4th one to put under the front porch roof so I can see my front door & see if packages are left. I have the Ring doorbell cam (v2) and it works fine except I can't see if anyone left something.

  • @Red-xz1gk
    @Red-xz1gk Před 3 lety +68

    It’s the HDR effect on the spotlight cam makes the image look washed-out. It’s actually a good thing for security purpose as the HDR effect reveals the shadows better. The impression of the stick up cam producing more clear image was due to the the difference in the depth of field. i.e. one is much wider than the other. So subjects in the frame look closer and bigger with the stick up cam which has narrower field, hence things/face seem more “clear” and easier to recognize.
    Talking about sound quality , the spotlight clearly won. For security purpose, it is important to pick up ambient sound in the surrounding. The spotlight cam picked up ambient sound effectively and clearly. Your voice is recognizable on the spotlight cam clip when you were standing farther away while it’s breaking up with the stick up cam.
    With the actual LED light, full color night image, dual battery slots, wider coverage and the siren feature, the spotlight cam is just a better product.

    • @Red-xz1gk
      @Red-xz1gk Před 2 lety +5

      @@markh2200 I would say absolutely yes given how much more it offers - color night image, Bright LED lights when movement detected, longer battery life, siren, wide area coverage, superior sound. Each of these upgraded features meaningfully improve the usability and security . And it is always on sale if you look for it, especially during this time of the year. Good luck with shopping.

      I really like the wider field of view on the spotlight camera but think I'd rather have better video quality with the stick up cam. I already have a floodlight so the camera is my main concern. Great video! I work in production and, to me, the "washed out" view of the spotlight camera just reads as a better sensor that isn't over-processing the image. Check out how easily the stick up cam gets over exposed. Whereas the spotlight cam, on the other hand, actually gathers much more meaningful information. The stick up cam may look better at first glance, but it looks like it's a worse image that has been processed to have artificial contrast to cover up the fact that the sensor just can't keep up with that of the spotlight cam. The same is true of the audio. You don't hear the helicopter because the stick up cam sounds like it's gating the signal way more than the spotlight cam.

    One major deficiency of the Ring spotlight battery cam viewers should be aware of is the spotlight does NOT come on at night if there is any sort of ambient light like a porch light even remotely nearby. The primary purpose of the spotlight is to act as a deterrent when motion is detected, yet it doesn't act in this capacity if you have a light on nearby. It is baffling Ring does not expect customers to want to be able to use a porch light nearby the camera at night. I alerted Ring over a year ago, and on the community forum, to this to no avail so, Steve, if you work with Ring on improvements PLEASE do encourage them to fix this. I can't imagine it is anything more than a simple firmware update.

      My front lights are on all night for security as-is (60w all the time, 75w when motion is detected) because having them on has been shown to reduce neighborhood crime. This deficiency would be a complete fail of it's true. Wow! Thanks for the comment!

    • @mountainbiker4450
      @mountainbiker4450 Před rokem +2

      @@mangos2888 Indeed it is true. At first when I got them I actually sent back the spotlight camera because even ring technical support couldn’t believe it. Then I verified with one of the managers and on the community forum that in fact the spotlight will absolutely not come on if you have any sort of porch light. I agree this is a total deficiency. I’ve tried to get some traction on this on the community forum without much luck so encourage anyone that reads this to join me on the community forum to try and get Ring to listen to implement what I would think would be an inherent feature and not even an enhancement.

      @NoNo-lq5ls Not quite. I put a Ring spotlight battery cam on my front porch near a standard front door light and that light prevents the spotlight of the Ring from coming on. Even Ring was perplexed and sent several replacement units until they finally discovered that this is indeed correct operation which is a complete deficiency in the design. What's the point of having the spotlight cam over the doorbell cam if the spotlight doesn't come on with motion. They should expect that customers may have a porch light near a spotlight cam and the spotlight cam should activate the spotlight regardless of a 60W or so porchlight or not.

    I'm primarily using the cameras indoors. So I just picked the *Ring Stick Up Cameras.*
    How often do you have to change the batteries?
    Does it have an on/off feature that you can activate on the app when you're at home? (so it's not recording you every time it detects movement?)
    It's sad that Amazon discontinued support of their Cloud Cam as of 12/02/2022. (That's what I've been using)
    Ring products just make sense to me as I use a Ring Video Doorbell.

    Good comparison video. But, is it just me or did the Spotlight Cam make you sound like you had a lisp. I played it back several times and with the Stick Cam, when we can hear you, your voice sounds fine. But with the Spotlight, well, it really did sound like you had a lisp.
    I think I'll pass on these and wait for your upcoming comparison of the all the flagship camera's.
    Great job as usual. Thanks!

    Do the stick up cam or spotlight cam allow to move the camera left or right when mounting. For instance if I mounted to the side of my house and wanted to look at the walkway approach.. will I be able to move it on an angle ?

    Hello great comparison I actually have 2 of the ring stick up Cam battery and both OK but the spotlight Cam was lacking in some areas but with that light on at night that' spotlight on at night that's what I'm looking for after all I'm not worried about daytime it's in the night and Early hours in the morning that I worry about so personally for me I can go with the spotlight Cam battery I'll stick two batteries in it and we'll go from there but thanks for the video I really appreciate the comparison I'm in Best Buy right now trying to decide which one to get and you just made my mind up for me thank you and have a good day

    Spotlight has better light reproduction during day, better HDR. Stickup is blown out where sun is, where spotlight has still detail in its overexposed areas. Stickup had better night (without light) vision. Thanks for review

    Stick up for the mic and and the spotlight for the video. I have both as well but my spotlight seems dark even with the lights. Led is about 2 years old I think when new it was bright. I like the spotlight for the 2 battery slots the most since I have both on solar panels

    Hey Steve, so I have the new spot light cam and the stick up. Just now starting to mess with them. Do you know is on the spot light cam the pre roll is able to be turned off? Can’t stand the blurry 4 seconds before it look much better.
    Thank you,

    Did you happen to compare motion sensing with the different PIR units? It would seem like the spotlight camera with the huge PIR would catch motion earlier?

    I am new to your page. I am looking for reasonable security cameras. After watching your video I liked the stick ring camera. I am wanting one for my backyard because we have dogs and also want to see if anyone is back there. My question is which would you recommend for my front door? The stick or ring doorbell ?

    If you like the Snapshot feature, the spotlight cam MAY have more frequent time options vs the stickup cam. I have a stickup and also the newer version of a Floodcam installed in late 2022 - Ring replace our very old one that was having issues for free! - and the Floodcam has 3 options of snapshot - every 3 min, every 1 min, every 30 seconds. My stickup cam has every hour, every 14 min, every 5 min. It also doesn't always detect motion on my porch, while set at most sensitive setting, so the stickup cam is not as good for truly reliable security purposes. (i.e., sometimes I will see something that was on my porch and happened to be captured by the snapshot for a split second and then it disappears, with no other recordings before or after, which is annoying.) Again, this is compared to an awesome new flood cam, so maybe the spotlight cam has the same snapshot options as the stickup cam.
