      Totally, without the three of you i would have found this a much harder hobby to get into. Thank you very much indeed! BTW just had an idea, could the auto flaps feature be used to control the camera angle automatically too. Eg when the kwad slows the camera tilt drops to 5 and when at speed (say 20kph up) the tilt is increased to whatever...

    For those who think the motors are still in the wrong position in Mixer, well... they are. But... by changing the negative and positive values, you're tricking the flight controller to do what you want it to do.
    I *THINK* that's the case. @ 15:05, JB seems to confirm.
    However... having said that... I found it quicker and easier to de-soLder and re-soLder the ESC.

    Or... You could spin the motors to find their positions, mark the signal wires on the esc connector, carefully remove them, and change their positions. It’s a bit annoying to remove the wires, but I had to do this for different brand esc/flight controller. I would expect this to work just for motor position changes if needed.

    Also setting the "Number of motor poles" to match your motors seems to be pretty important.
    The default is 14 but my motors have 12 poles.
    And they were running louder and rougher when set to 14.
    I could imagine not having this set right could reduce the performance and lifespan of your motors.

  • @daveskiefpv1184

    I was just wondering, if you have separate ESCs and you instal your FC rotated 180°. When you change the settings in iNav to tell it that you have rotated the FC, does it automatically work out that the ESC pads are also 180° out of alignment and in so doing have the motors in the right order. Hope that was clear enough question. 🤦🏼‍♂️

    My question is; if my FC had settings (maybe some are default) in BetaFlight and I flash that that same FC with INAV, does any settings stay on the board such as default settings etc?
    I was curious to know if any settings carry over when converting a FC from BetaFlight to INAV.

    You certainly not need resource remapping to avoid the hassle... It can be done in the configurator. But as betaflight is complex to keep some extra flexibility, INAV does the same here, allowing one to have a lot of hex one weird configurations doing the setup you did.
    However, they could add a setting to do a "motor swap" in the configurator, It requires a Feature request in github, and someone willing to implement it.

Swinging a big prop slowly is a pretty efficient way of flying a quad, but the resistance of a big prop at low rpm would be tough on the motors. Ok of course you're right, sorry I was so excited about the next step in inav config and can't wait to get to the "real tricky" things... 😉
      Thank you four your great work! 👍

    Hey Josh, I got this far but my one motor does not seem to get full power when I move the slider. All others seem fine but my position 3 motor is the one having issues. Suggestions?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  Před 4 lety

      If the motor doesn't spin at all when you raise the slider then check your soldering. If the soldering looks good swap the motor to another one. If that one doesn't spin then replace the ESC.

      @@JoshuaBardwell got back from vacation, resoldered one wire and it seems to be all fixed :)

    That is all fine and dandy that all your motors are rotating in the proper direction, but one of mine is rotating in the wrong direction. What about me?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  Před 3 lety

      Use blheli to reverse the motor or swap any 2 of the 3 motor wires with each other where they solder to the ESC.
      This shoukd be one of the steps in the tutorial (I hope).

    Just ordered the Tyro 119, unfortunately I just received the shipping information. They are sending it "ocean shipping" in just 2 short months I should be able to do this build. Be wary when ordering from Banggoods, it will be some time before you receive your order.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  Před 4 lety +1

      I'm not sure what the current situation is with shipping, but I do know things are messed up with air cargo due to coronavirus affecting air travel. A lot of cargo goes on passenger planes, but a lot fewer planes are flying now. I think probably one of the more expensive shipping options would have come faster, but I can't say that for sure.

    Maybe I missed this, but will inav work with any flight controller?

      It works with many but not any. Check the github page: github.com/iNavFlight/inav/tree/master/src/main/target All Targets are in there.

      The best case will be if the FC has barometer on board and SDA/SCL pads for a compass.

    Hi Joshua, thanks for all the great videos. I comment on this video because my question is most related to this one. I am using Betaflight though. Should be the same wrt the mixer. I have known this for a long time but was always too lazy to follow it up, but while tuning my newly built quad, I figured that the mixer may not be optimal. The frame is not a true X. I used www.iforce2d.net/mixercalc to calculate the actual motor mixer values. I came up with
    mixer custom
    mmix reset
    mmix 0 1 -1 0.8 -1
    mmix 1 1 -1 -0.8 1
    mmix 2 1 1 0.8 1
    mmix 3 1 1 -0.8 -1
    I did not fly the new mix yet, but from your experience, how much of a significance does it have (in general).
    I found only my tiny whoops are true X while my 3 and 5-inch quads are all stretch X.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions

    Instead of taking a screenshot of the settings at 10:00 just type the values into Excel... it's just a 4x4 matrix, it wont take that long. Then you can rearrange the rows into the correct positions in Excel, and copy the values into the configurator without the need for mental-gymnastics, and you won't make any mistakes!

    The lack of resource remapping in iNav is not about space on the board, but about user friendliness or implementation complexity, according to this github issue, but I don't lose faith that maybe someday someone implements it. github.com/iNavFlight/inav/issues/1145

    DON'T plug POWER into the quadcopter while it is plugged in. Just burnt the SECOND FC I had purchased to replace the first. I don't have another 80 bucks to spent, Bardwell. Will not be following the rest of this tutorial.

      I don't know what's going wrong but plugging battery in while usb is plugged in should not fry anything. I think you have a wiring mistake.
