      Assalamul alaykum brother
      I have a important question
If I wanna stay away from food and water (without fasting) so I could fill a tiny bit of what imam alHussein(عليه السلام) went through is it makruh?
I mean it’s better then hitting yourself with a chain(witch is not the ahlul bayts sunnah) (hitting yourself with a chain is not a mustahab and not a sunnah of the prophet nor the imams i myself see it as haram(because your hurting yourself))
But hitting your head and chest(not hard) is a sunnah if I am not mistaken

Thank you very much for the insight of Yewm Ashura. I just wanted to note that "Yom Kippur" is the holiest day in Judaism. It occurs annually on the 10th of Tishrei (10-1), the first month of the Hebrew calendar, which would correspond to the 10th of Muharram (10-1) in hijri calendar. The day's observances consist of full fasting (sunset to sunset) as well as some other things (prayers, confessions,...). Considering that Jews have intercalary month in their lunar calendar (every 2-3 years a year will have 13 months instead of 12) to match it up to solar year, it tends to wander through out the hijri year quite a bit. Other than that, I very much agree with you about most of the said stuff.

@Thaqlain It is a truly graceful and respectful manner of providing insight through logical argument (Great effort to unite on the truth). It is clearly proven here why fasting on the 10th of Muharram is not endorsed by our school of thought. However, to ensure a balanced perspective, I believe two aspects are missed in this video:
The evaluation of the third category of ahadith in Sunni books.
The references to Ashura fasting in our Shia books was not evaluated in detail.
Is it possible to add this in a later video, or if you already have it, can you provide a link to it? Thanks
@Thaqlain Just a Point in support of the stance in video: There is no doubt that Imam Husayn (AS) was martyred on the 10th of Muharram, and by Asr time, everyone had been martyred. They were all suffering from extreme thirst, and even Hazrat Abbas (AS) went in search of water. Everyone was desperately seeking water. If fasting on Ashura had indeed been a tradition set by Prophet Muhammad (SAW), then Imam Husayn (AS) would have observed fasting and not asked for water for his family (elders and children all included), his companions and himself.

The concept of non-obligatory fasting is around gratitude. We keep Mustahab fasts to thank Allah for his blessings (for example, the incident of Surah Dahar). For this reason, in the School of Ahlulbayt, while we don't eat or drink till Asr, we don't fast.

Where does it say that fasting on Ashura is obligatory????
Hadith no 662 by Mother A’isha refutes everything you say in this video:
The people used to fast on Ashura (the tenth day of the month of Muharram) before the fasting of Ramadan was made obligatory. And on that day the Ka'ba used to be covered with a cover. When Allah made the fasting of the month of Ramadan compulsory, Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever wishes to fast (on the day of Ashura) may do so; and whoever wishes to leave it can do so."

In the biginning of the video he says that fasting on Ashura was mandated and quotes hadiths (one from Bukhari and another from Sunan Maja) to back that up. • @Indianman536
    @Indianman536 Před 6 dny

The mushriks of makkah use to follow and observe many remnants of Abrahamic beliefs such as Hajj etc.
When Islam arrived it not reject what was right.
So they kept on fasting on Ashura.
Then after the Hijrah when muharram came they saw even the jews doing the same so they were asked why you fast ? They replied they fast because moses a.s fasted so prophet s.a.w said we are more closer to moses so we would fast and fast a day more to differentiate between the jews .
You may say this indicates they started fasting after seeing the jews fasting but other hadeeths also proves that this wasn't the case ,they were already observing it in makkah .
Fasting is not celebration, prophet s.a.w forbid any celebration except two eids and its prohibited to fast on the day of Eid.
Those who celebrate are not right but those who fast to thank Allah for this day are right.
Fasting and celebration don't go together.
If remembering and thanking Allah by fasting is wrong then doing things after the prophet s.a.w passed away as a part of deen is also clearly bidah.

A lot of statememts that you have written in this comment are not just without any historical references but also against Quran and Hadith. @@Thaqlain If you believe the two eidains and jumah to be the same eids then what do you do on 10th of Muharram if its on Friday?
Do you celebrate Eid of Friday like you do for eid ul fitr and eid ul adha? If Friday is 10th of Muharram?
Then you would say there is a difference between those two eids which is for celebration when fasting is prohibited and the Fridays which is like eid but not exactly that eid when you can't fast and must celebrate.
