  • These new Vitavon V2 Differential gears are the strongest gears I've tested for the XRT and X-Maxx. The held up to severe abuse better than the PR Racing gears and are a huge gear upgrade from stock!

    FYI: There is a potential fitment issue with the Traxxas aluminum housings and these gears. The tabs are a little longer than they should be on the gear. Vitavon is working on the problem and should have it corrected by now..

    it took Vitavon a
    long time to catch up to PR Racing - My XRT runs on the Max 4 70125 motor and I’ve had zero issues almost two years in!! If you drive like you want to break it, anything will break including these gears, also the PR racing gears come with the proper shims (did you shim yours?) when using the PR gears?) and fit is absolutely perfect. I used the Vitavon diff housings & Bulkheads, front & rear - this greatly enhances and
    reduces the flex that causes all gears to wear out prematurely when hard bashing or extreme overpowering.

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před měsícem

      First thing to do would be to carefully inspect your upper and lower bulkhead and make sure they aren't any cracks in them. A lot of times those kinds of failures happen because the bulkhead is damaged allowing the gears to move. Also verify that all of your bearings are tight and good.

  • @oahupc4688
    @oahupc4688 Před 7 měsíci +2

    I saw people put the shim behind the big gear and not the small pinion.... Would that work here?

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před 7 měsíci +1

      It depends. Ideally a combination of both is the way to go but I found on the X-Maxx/XRT platform They're generally isn't a lot of room to move the differential itself side to side. If you're able to get shims on the ring gear side of the differential itself that will get the gears closer together You just want to make sure you're not binding up the bearings by trying to jam them in too much.

  • @JBsFPV

    I've had 2 of the bearings disintegrate. Is this a common issue? Any ideas on how to avoid this?

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I have had bearing failures a couple of times with this type of gear though not with this specific one. There are a lot of forces on these ears and the bearings aren't that big. You might want to step up to some quality name brand bearings like NSK. They'll cost you quite a bit more per bearing but they will probably also last a lot longer

    Had an xmaxx for a while, sold it because of this issue. • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I just use regular wheel bearing grease but anything greasy on the gears themselves would be fine. Inside you want to use silicone differential fluid. What kind you use is up to the type of driving that you do. I like to use ear plug in the center differential and then 100K front and rear but I'm also not the best tuner

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Anything you can do to stiffen up the area around the gears is going to help hold them in place. That being said you want to be careful because additional weight puts additional force on those gears so it's kind of a balancing act. I recommend aluminum differential housing and aluminum differential cover. That with proper shimming seems to work really well.

    I installed these on my XRT. Hobbywing 1100kv and Max 5.
    I had to go back to stock on the rear. The car barley moved and made a horrible sound. I changed diff house cover, bulkhead rear low, bulkhead rear upper and gear box cover. Still no improvement. The pinion also eats the bearings. Also tried to shim the diff. Everything seems to be ok when I install. Car moves nice when I roll it back and forth. Moved front diff to the back. It did not help. If I run the car without tires on the back everything sound good. Front is ok. Any sugestions?

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před 11 měsíci +2

      That's very strange that it would roll smoothly but not run smoothly.
      I will say that in my experience these spiral bevel gears regardless of what brand they are from do tend to be hard on the bearings. They put a lot of axial load on the bearings that they're really just not designed for. It's always kind of a compromise in these situations.
      Having said I'm not sure with everything that you've done why you would still be having that specific problem. Maybe there's a defect in the rear pinion?
      After shimming can you verify that you have a little bit of backlash all the way around between the ring and pinion in the rear?

    • @DoRC
      @DoRC  Před 8 měsíci

      If you've replaced all those parts including the bearings and you're still having a problem even after moving the front differential to the back the only thing left really is the rear pinion. Sounds like it May have been machined wrong or something. I'd recommend removing it and carefully inspecting it. Compare the gear profile to the front pinion and see if there's any difference. Beyond that maybe try getting with the manufacturer and see if they'll send you a replacement.

    • @DoRC

      Spiral bevel gears are inherently stronger than straight cut gears because they have more tooth engagement.
