  • It may sound crazy, but when you give people jobs they actually enjoy and are good at, you get a lot more done. We’re finding that out at Vortic Watch Company, and our team feels like they’ve really begun to hit their stride. With this increased productivity, Tyler has more time to work on smaller projects around the shop. This means that we’re inching closer and closer to having seven unique watches per week instead of six.
Recently, someone asked us why we don’t use plastic 3-D printing for our prototypes instead of going right into using metal. This is a valid question because, in theory, we could save money by plastic 3-D printing our prototype. Tyler responded by clarifying that the inaccuracy of the plastic printer nullifies any use we would gain by using it to build a prototype. He likened it to handwriting an essay in grade school before typing it on a computer. The handwriting is pretty obsolete, and so is 3-D printing for us at this point. Why waste time on something that doesn’t provide much insight? We’d rather go straight to the real deal.
We’re Building a Watch Company with Custer + Wolfe and giving you an inside look into what it takes to manufacture in America and build mechanical watches. We want to bring you along on all the successes, failures, innovations, and inventions that go into American manufacturing and watchmaking. Follow along as we restore vintage pocket watch movements and give them new life with Vortic Watch Co., and as we build a brand new watch company from scratch, focused on making high-quality American-machined watches.

The emails are from Vortic for now? When will there be a Custer & Wolfe website & email?
