    Devin is the reason I switched to Open C and let me tell you he is 110% right about it just being more easy and fluid, I found my home as far as guitar playing goes once I switched to Open C.

    I recently tuned my 7-string in open C tuning. It is a very strange tuning on a 7, but I love the simplicity and smoothness of open tuning. Also very often with a standard one I used to get stuck, while open C it also increases a lot of creativity which is essential when making music

    • @Avexyli
      @Avexyli Před 7 lety +3

      If you know music theory, no, you should be able to adjust.
      Alot of playing in open C is just taking a pattern (as it is in standard, but easier) and moving it. Octaves have no fret change on the string skip cause its just CGCGCE. Arpeggios are pretty simple as well. I swap between standard and open all the time.

    • @Avexyli
      @Avexyli Před 7 lety +1

      Yep, I do that as well. I keep my 7 string in in C, a 6 string in B since dev rarely uses the 7th in B songs. Others are standards or drop variants

    • @Epochstudios
      @Epochstudios Před rokem +1

      No not even... as a matter of fact 10-52 is perfect for Baritone tuning ( B,E,A,D,F#,B) on a 6 string @ 25.5" scale length so tuning to C goes to show its actually pretty heavy using a 54.... I've been playing for 25 years and tried all kinds of combinations even going to a .70 for drop A on a 6 string it's it's too damned much. 10-52 is prefect for C# or C standard

  • @ashchase8340
    @ashchase8340 Před 8 lety +1

    52 is to light for C. D'Addario tension chart says at least a 58 single for C. Must be a low tension spring on his Evertune bridge.

    • @xxbrkdwnxx
      @xxbrkdwnxx Před 8 lety

      +Ash Chase depends on the scale length of the guitar too. If it's a Les Paul type, yeah, it would be too light. but on a 25 1/2 scale it works better. I use the same set of strings but i'm tuned to D standard on a 25 1/2 scale and it's fucking perfect tension.

    • @ashchase8340
      @ashchase8340 Před 8 lety

      +Chris Warrick For D standed 10to52 works, but the high end/bottom side is alittle light, EX116 works best for D Standard. I use EXL115w for D standard.
      check out stringprotenion.com

    • @xxbrkdwnxx
      @xxbrkdwnxx Před 8 lety

      Ash Chase
      also remember the scale length thing. a set of 10-52's on a say, Fender Strat in D standard will feel way too light on a Les Paul in D standard.

    • @ashchase8340
      @ashchase8340 Před 8 lety

      +Chris Warrick It goes by scale length of the neck. The shorter the neck the higher in gauge you will have to go. At the end of the day it's personal preference. Everything gauge of string has a different tension and resistance when bending. I personally like my string tension tight. Having a 52 gauge for C is like having a 42 gauge In E.

      fredo gumbo Devin is my favorite musician, but I will say Govan is better at least from a technical standpoint (not to say he can't play w/ feel, because he definitely can). Then again one of the things I love about DT is he isn't overly techy for the sake of it, his playing is more built on emotion and feel w/ grandiose production.
