    -a 60 to a 63 for C2 for me.
    A tuning I plan on trying some time is G4D4A3E3B2G2D2A1, which uses higher notes in the pattern/scale set by a typical 5-string bass tuning (G2D2A1E1B0). This G4 is 3 notes above "high E," a.k.a. E4. If you're playing a 6-string, you may want to try G4 to G2 or D4 to D2. Why am I interested in this tuning for my 8-string? I think I can get different clean tones with similar chord shapes, and it's something new to try.
    If I like a .106" for E1 and .145 for B0, what string might I like for G0?

      @Stringjoy  Před 6 lety +1

      I'm afraid G0 is beyond our range (and also very nearly below the audible spectrum itself), you'd want something in the .200 range which is far more than we make or specialize in.

      Thank you for your educated guess about an appropriate gauge for G0. Yes, I knew before I made my comment that G0 is only 3 notes above the lowest note we can hear the fundamental of through our ear canals; and that the thickest bass string you sell is .145"/3.68 mm, but thanks anyway. (:

    Does all this apply to acoustic as well?

    I like the baritone guitar version of the open C.

    The late Ritchie Havens would’ve loved that open C baritone tuning on an acoustic or acoustic electric standard guitar.

      I think you're right about that!

      Stringjoy there’s one more thing I’d like to add; I think now Sir Barry Gibb would like that open C baritone tuning, or what I call, the open C alternate. The song Jive Talkin’ is an example. I think he’s gonna like it.

    5% is a halftone, this is precisely enough. Make a string a halftone higher and she will have 5% more tension.
    What we want for the beginning is the tension of a normal ballanced set of strings for standard tuning. We need per halftone down 5% more, not diameter but mass. This should work.

    • @martinh1277
      @martinh1277 Před 5 lety

      If I tune the thick string precisely, it is right for the bare string. The higher the fret, the higher the string. Above the fifth fret the tunig cannot be used any more. This string is the stiffest and that changes something.
      I use a tuner to tune this string too low, but it still fits. So I can play a complete oktave and tuning is not clean but it still fits. This string is a 58.

    • @Stringjoy
      @Stringjoy  Před 5 lety

      I would avoid that hard and fast rule as it varies way to much for that to hold true. But if you were to try and fit it to a specific number, it would be a lot closer to 10% in most common circumstances.

      @@Stringjoy OK. 1.0594631 is x. Now take the tension of the E string and calculate e : x = es. es : x ... = c and you have the tension of the string with the tone C.
      What we need is same tension, but higher mass. Math can be simple.
      Now comes Ästhetik. Open C tuning makes it possible to play basslines. So I need a loud and thick string here and not a balanced set. A thick string is stiffer, so I can tune it precisely as a bare string, but abover the 5 th fret it is too high. I can tune it a bit too low, then it also works with the frets this is my solution. Therefore I cant play a string thicker than 54. It is a 12-string, the oktave string must be in the same tune, also with frets. I think, here is no further solution.
      Greetings

      Martin, I wish I understood much of what you were talking about here.
      Of the bits that I can somewhat discern what you're saying:
      • Tension is proportional to mass, if you have higher mass you have higher tension.
      • I think this line "but abover the 5 th fret it is too high" might be referring to string height/action, if so, this can be adjusted to accommodate any gauge string.

      @@Stringjoy Thank you, strinjoy! It was helpful just to talk about this theme and I had an idea. 6 th strings are 54 and 54, which makes it louder. It is simple. Basslines are easy now.
