    Thanks so much Wayne, I was thinking about starting a goalie channel myself. This really helps. Hopefully i'll have MILLIONS of subs soon. Great Vid as always

      Thanks! You should definitely start a channel! I feel like there can never be too many goalies on CZcams!

    My videos also help my team. By leaving the cam at one end of the rink, they get a chance to make the highlight reel. The 2nd period scoring increased :p Keep up the good work!

    Would love to see a follow up video with details of your mounting system, how/where you position your suction cup mount.

      Thanks, I have some other behind the scenes/ YT production video(s) in the works, so stay tuned!

    Great stuff. Very informative. Been wanting to start filming my games to figure out what I need to work on. Only thing you didn't cover that I'd liked to have seen was camera positioning with the suction cup and any other possible camera locations. Thanks, mate!

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  Před 5 lety

      Thanks for your comment! Ha, I have so much gear to bring to the rink, I only ever bring one camera on the ice (the one that's attached to the Suction Cup mount). I'm hoping to do a follow up video with different camera angles (in net, side glass, behind the net) and show my different set ups in the future, but for behind the net shots, I suction up the mount inside the rink for easy access. The Field of View on the GoPro is wide enough that I have the Gorilla Pod pointed straight up and then angle the Camera Housing slightly downward. IMO, this gives the best view of the play developing and your movement in and around the crease.

    Great video! I've never tried Linear with the GoPro. Always gone wide angle or super wide but will definitely give at try for one of my next videos.

      Thanks man! I really feel Linear captures more than enough of the defensive zone. Give it a try and let me know how it works out for you!

    Thanks for all your hard work! I recently started recording my games, mostly for evaluation and skill improvement purposes. Between you and The Puck Stops Here I've gotten some great advice on how to record and edit. I just got a 2nd GoPro so now my edit times will be way longer, trying to splice in action on both ends. Haven't delved into voice overs yet. Let me try to dial in my video specs first. Any goalie or video edit feedback on my work is appreciated!

    Great video Wayne. But where do you mount your camera? Using what mount? How many times has it been hit with a puck? Things us aspiring goalies need to know!

      Ha, yeah, it felt straight out of that TV show The Goldbergs! I'll have to dig out the tapes and digitize them. Whether or not I'll ever post them... well that's a different story... Thanks for your comment!

    New subscriber, love your channel. I just bought a GoPro 5 with a suction cup mount to film my games. Will be trying it for the first time Sunday! Also, is that Phillips academy?

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  Před 5 lety +1

      Ha, it's totally Phillips! It's such a nice facility, I really don't like skating anywhere else! Good luck with the new GoPro! It can really put things in perspective when you review the game tape. And thanks for the Sub! You are Totally Awesome!

    Another great video Wayne!!
    What is the camera/phone holding device you’re using at the end of the video?

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  Před 6 lety +2

      Thanks for your comment! I was using a GoPro gimbal by Yuneec. The GoPro fits in the front and it provides image stabilization as you walk and move your camera around. My end segment was totally an excuse to use it (as I obviously don't use it during a game).
      Thanks for watching to the end!

  • @5andysly

    Great job on this video! I'm a new subscriber and I'm very impressed. I am a goalie dad and I record all of my son's games - he's 12. Use a hero 5 black behind 1 net and I bought a cheap gopro knockoff for the other net. The cheapo is awful - batteries that don't last through a game, corrupted files that are unrecoverable, inferior picture compared to the gopro. I think I'm going to return it and pick up the 4 that you use.
    One quick question, will the battery last for a whole game?

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  Před 6 lety

      Hey, thanks for your comment and subscribing! I think being a goalie parent can be harder than being a goalie! Props to you! I have an 11 yo soccer GK, so I finally know what my parents went through!
      My Hero4 battery has lasted me through every game (about 50-55 minutes) even when shooting at 2.7k and/or higher fps. Also, these video files can get large but I've also never filled up my 32gb micro SD card. Hope this info helps and thanks for watching!

    I just want to capture my games and my sons without having to always try and use my camcorder. Obviously I cant video myself with my camcorder and we both can gain from the video review. One question I have is how long does the battery last and how much room is on the camera (we will both be on the ice on Sunday nights and I may not have time to download or charge it up).

      The Linear color space is also meant to be color graded (LUT added) in post production. The flat color range has more range in post production (no colors have been clipped).

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  Před 6 lety

      Thanks! I normally color grade all my footage (as best as I can... after all my forte is audio) but I wanted to leave these clips as unedited as possible. I'm actually still working out some settings depending on the lighting in certain rinks. My weekly skate as 2 rinks but the lighting is pretty consistent in both. The stick and puck rink has windows so daytime skates have sunlight. But regardless, thanks for you added info!

      Just got into playing hockey and goalie in the past year and have been checking out the channel all morning. Saw the SSH jersey in your chestie video and thought it was crazy that you must be somewhat local. Now I see we both play in Andover! Kinda expect to see next that you live in Georgetown. Hope to see you out there some time

    Would you buy the Gorilla Pod or Locking Arm? I was reading a review that said the JOBY suction cups don't work well on vertical surfaces. Have you ever had any problems with it falling off? Does it work well with the Hero 4 Black? I was also wondering what type of housing you use.

    • @VOGoalie
      @VOGoalie  Před 5 lety

      Thanks for your question! I like the Gorilla Pod arm as it gives a lot of flexibility to get the right angle and is easier to adjust once stuck to the glass but either will work. I've actually not had any issues with the suction cup on the glass and in fact, the twist lock design does a great job. I'm actually just using the Hero4 black factory housing and the lightweight works well with the suction cup mount. Thanks for asking!

      I actually just use the case the Hero 4 Black came with. I did switch out the case's backplate from the sealed waterproof one to the open one for better audio recording. And I have dropped it on the ice a few times as well with no ill effects!
