It was actually for good luck/fortune combined with all sorts of superstition stuff like a house should “sit at the south and face the north” to gain more yang energy so that no evil spirits would dare to visit your house and stuff. But all these boil down to laying one’s mind at ease. So I guess you’re right in a way.

“Minimizing environmental anxiety” is a better way to describe feng shuei than the spiritual approach a lot of people take. I’m a very biologically oriented person, I think we’re animals and so it makes sense to me that in design the thing that feels spiritually right or aligned is what makes us feel safe and secure from danger, just like any animal seeks in their home.

In large living spaces, putting it in the middle still allows you to put tv infront, tables and armchairs next to and infront of couch, and even more furniture behind couch while still having space to walk around widely. You do not put couch at the end in large living spaces as then the TV will look very small from far away(even for 72inch)
In a small living space, like this one, however, putting it in the middle takes all the space you would want for coffee table/armchair and you cannot fit furniture behind it anyways. It results in a cramped space with even less furniture than a large room with it in middle actually ends up with.
Sounds like you never stepped into a large suburb house.
In large rooms, the first option is also beneficial as it allows people passing through the living space to avoid walking infront of the TV while someone is watching.

An additional option if you don't want people walking past the tv & blocking the view &/or don't want to feel like you're watching the door, put the tv away from the wall (where the couch was in option one), but frame & somewhat protect the tv using a cabinet/console (e.g. with the tv sitting on 1x horizontal Kallax unit positioned between 2x vertical Kallax units). Why would you be walking around the middle of the living room like that and not just sit down? Its against a wall in a cubby not like the kitchens on the opposite side of the front door

Also good to consider the view when walking into a house. The sofa blocks the view, so anytime you come home, you are being welcomed with a messy feeling. Same as guests.

Option 2 since you also have to give the side with multiple outlets for the tech stuff.

I liked option 2 as well since it's a similar set up to my house! I don't like having the couch so close to the doorway and walkway. It tempts me to just dump everything on the couch as I walk past haha

Option 2 much better much for open space in the room

Bradley 100%. You always want to be facing the entrance for one, instead of turning ur back on it where someone can easily open the door and stab you in the neck. But if you wanna be less pessimistic about it, Bradley option keeps the room more open and welcome and makes the hallway wider vs narrow spaces. Think of it this way. If I closed ur eyes when you enter the door while asking you to hold 5 bags of groceries and maybe throw in an eager dog for example, option 1 would easily make you claustrophobic and even make you fumble or tumble, but option you allows you more flexibility to walk in freely and more welcoming.
There's also the third option which is the one that you have the couch to the back of the window so you can always feel the sun but that's a double edged sword in terms of glare and heat and curtain management so Bradley definitely has the best option.

Moving into my new apartment, your videos are so helpful. I literally knocked out my entire house before placing furniture, and now everything feels very natural. It would’ve taken me a really long time to figure it out otherwise
