    I find xen orchestra and xcpng amazing. Its not something as a student I really have any use for. But it feels like technology from the future. At least from my minimal experience playing around with it on my own network. There's definitely a learning curve beyond what other hypervisors have tho.

    Great feature add to XenOrchestra Backup!!!

    I love to move to XCP-NG. My only issue is having the supporting configuration management tools and eco system for automation, like Ansible and Terraform.

    Still can't make up my mind between XCP-NG and Proxmox, but it's nice to hear how the solution evolves. 👍

    Always wondered the difference between xen orchestra and proxmox, does proxmox offer backup and clustering of xcp Ng as well like orchestra does

      Proxmox does have backup and clustering. It's done differently from XCP-NG. He has some videos on the differences. He likes XCP-NG and that shows but he makes some valid points on scalability of XCP-NG/Orchetra vs. Proxmox. I've used both and I personally prefer Proxmox. For larger environments XCP-NG is a better solution for sure. I haen't checked out the latest Orchestra but the last one using the prebuilt OVA was very limited feature wise. In another video he says you can build from source to get those features. Would be nice if they just did that from the start with their appliance. Both are good options depending on your needs. I like that LXC containers are inclluded in Proxmox and docker is very easy to add as well. Proxmox also comes with many contrainer and VM templates. Try them both and see which you like better.

    XCP-NG is great until you try to pass an NVIDIA gpu to a VM and then it doesn't even recognize it as plugged in. Even though commands on the bare-metal hypervisor show it.

      Hmm I have nvidia GPUs passed through to windows VMs on two different setups, no issues. In my experience issues with guests not fully seeing passed-through PCI-e devices are typically issues with the VT-d/IOMMU implementation in the motherboard BIOS

    • @hiddenfromyourview
      @hiddenfromyourview Před 2 lety

      @@fohdeesha Everyone goes straight to guests or how to configure the GPU for passthrough using one of the management tools. It's kind of like saying "How to drive a car. First up, get in the car". and I'm stuck because the car literally isn't there. Can't pass through what isn't there.

    • @fohdeesha
      @fohdeesha Před 2 lety

      @@hiddenfromyourview have you ensured your motherboard bios is totally up to date, and all pcie passthrough options are enabled in bios? (Eg vt-d, iommu, virtualization etc). Like I said when VMs can't see it at all it's typically an issue in how the motherboard firmware is handling the pcie device virt

      I know some cards require a dummy plug be connected to the video out before it will activate and be seen. the dummy plug stimulates a monitor being connected.

    • @hiddenfromyourview
      @hiddenfromyourview Před 2 lety

      @@tr3lane The underlying OS saw it. The management software didn't. Maybe the management software needed the card to return info on a monitor? Maybe, I hadn't thought of that. But at this point, I've removed XCP-NG entirely and I'm running Ubuntu Server bare-metal. All is working perfectly now. Thank you for your input! I'll keep that in mind if I spin up XCP again.
