Bed room test is way more relevant than most You Tubers give credit for. Just ask my ageing neighbours and the wife.. 👍🇦🇺
A good attenuator will broaden your horizon exponentially, I have a rivera rockcrusher recording and it gives me all the bedroom volumes at sweet spot tube gains

You can have mine. One trick pony easily eclipsed by a solid state Katana. I know I have both and soooo wanted to love my Marshall. Even the EQ is a chore to use. I musta got 2 duds in a row. Good for using w modelors.
I just bought a DSL1H and I love it .. Neighbors aren't an issue for me and I can play as loud as I want in that regard BUT... sleeping kids is most definitely an issue and I needed a quiet amp for playing when the kiddos go to bed and this definitely does the job

Thanks ,great head I’m not massively keen on the small Orange heads but the bigger Rockerverbs are great ,the smaller ones are loud but they aren’t as good as EVH imo ,the super tiny ones don’t have this tone I wouldn’t mind trying one
Great test - sounds a cracking little amp. Would be good to hear it in Classic mode with the gain cranked up and a boost to get that early-80s heavy rock sound if you get chance when you do another video?

@@NinecoreNeil Appreciate you’re a metal man so the Ultra Gain channel suits you - I’m more of an 80s chap so a DSL50 with gain cranked and an overdrive giving it that bite is my sound. Just interested how that sounds as 50 watts at bedroom level is hard work to manage without taking the roof off!

@@NinecoreNeil Sounds like it could be my new bedroom studio amp as I could drive it harder to get that tight sound. The 50 watts aren’t being used as they are meant to be as I can barely get them above volume 1....

i am going to get one of these marshall dsl 1 hr heads i will be useing mine on headphones but i also own a marshall 1922 212 cab that i use to use when i played live many years ago with a marshall mg 100 hdfx head. but i will use the dsl1 on the lower power setting when i try it on my marshall 1922 cab i live in a terraced house so i do not want to annoy people that live in between me .thank you for doing this youtube vid showing this amp in a metal setting cos knot many people have .i play death&thrash metal so this amp is very good for me to use

i have got a marshall blues breaker 2 pedal with boost setting on it i am going to try with it i also own digitech df7 distortion factory pedal with a tube screamer setting and dod 250 pre amp setting on it that i am going to try with it. when i get the dsl 1 hr i also own a jackson king v i think its a js30 with emg passive jackson branded humbuckers in black my king v is strung thru the body whitch i prefer becuase i string my guitar ,s 11-52&11-54 e standerd tuning i do not drop tune any of my guitars at all i like to use fixed bridge guitars or string thru or stop bar tail piece or one piece wrap over guitars becuse i string them 11-52&11-54 i do not like guitars with a trem on them cos you can not string them 11-52&11-54 with out having major tuning problems with them

Tone shift works great on classic channel which I find to be too bright. Also I think the 1W mode is better on ultra gain channel and .25W on classic gain. Classic gain is louder.

On doing some research on this amp, which is how I found your video, my only bug bear is you can only use a 16 ohm cab.
Yes I had to sell it because I only had 8ohm cabs crazy
Marshall manual is a bit confusing but it will accept or require a MINIMUM of
8 ohm and up to16 ohm. 8 ohms and up (ie don’t got 4 ohm)

I found it funny that out of all the amps Ola demo'd over the years that was one of his best tones so far. That amp has no right to sound that good lol.

I recommend Greenbacks or similar with small wattage amps it takes off the glassy edge and gives them a bit more umph in the lows
It’s either that or an orange cab although the orange has v30 they are quite woofy in the lows

Marshall amps in general have a really nice organic sound but unluckily they're usually not high-gain and tend to be too brittle especially with V30's, so they need the right speakers and boost or mod. Not a plug and play amp as many people consider them (especially the vintage ones) and I know for sure because I have a Jcm800 that is a pain in the arse. I think the Mesa Boogie Crown is what Marshall is supposed to sound: gainier and tighter.
I think it was actually the Nailbombs they are too middy for the amp

@@NinecoreNeil I just looked at the MB cab and it is 8 Ohm and DSL 1 is 16 ohm. No idea if DSL1 could work without any issue with the 8 ohm cab but the funny part is the amp has has only two 4 Ohm outputs and the cab is 8 ohm.

Man, that 57 is such a tone killer... Listen how good it sounds in the room! Beats me why so many people use the 57 (or any dynamic or condenser mics) for amp demos; they color the sound way too much.
Well I duno about everyone else but I use them because most venues use them as standard so it gives people a realistic sound of what they would sound like at a gig

I live in a small apartment myself and am looking for a good practice amp setup. Would you recommend this DSL or the EVH Stealth lunchbox? Great demo too. Thank you sir from Dallas TX, USA.
I actually like both the EVH I don’t have to boost so for ease of use I’d go EVH ,both great though,I guess it would be best to look at specs the EVH is more modern and has more tones in it also loud enough to gig the Marshall does have headphone jacket though .

My style & tone is something like if Zakk Wylde, John Sykes and Mark Tremonti had a baby together so really either amp would work. I keep leaning towards the EVH but haven’t found one yet to play. Appreciate your help and hope you have a great day sir.

Hmmm if you were mic’d it might but definitely not in a rehearsal situation,over here we get mic’d at gigs the 20watt version is very good and would suit gigs

Yes I sold my 16 ohm cabs so had nothing to use with it ,I will be putting more marshall on the channel though this year 😜
Go with the DSL20 - you have much more options when it comes to speakers because of 8 and 16 Ohm output.....

The cab HAS to be 16 ohm but as long as it is a 16 Ohm cab it will sound good.

Marshall do a 1x12 specifically for this amp but I’d go with an EVH ,the cab is so important to tone
@@NinecoreNeil I also read that the marshall cab should be avoided. I can grab a used head for like 200 usd, but in Hungary i did not find a cab for it. The evh is for like 400 usd (new) double the price of the amp. The harley benton vintage 112 is a killer in price/performance ratio but its 8 ohm :( I also can opt for a used dsl5c (older one, without the reverb) for around 300 usd, maybe that should also do the trick, or I will hunt a dsl5cr.

They shot themselves in the foot making it 16 ohm output only. Who does that? My 212 FROM MARSHALL is 8 ohm.
